Chapter 3: sebek and ace library date

Summary:

the long awaited (/s) library date

Chapter Text

ace didn’t even have to enter the room to just sense the anger rolling off of sebek in waves. maybe he was just an empath. as soon as he opened the door to the library, a pair of slitted green eyes were on him. “you! you are late by 18 minutes!” sebek whisper yelled. well… it seemed like he just wanted to whisper. ace shrugged. “I was busy cyberbullying vil anti’s.” he whispered back, not caring that sebek probably only knew about half of those words.

he sat down, next to the still seething half fae, and looked down at their homework. “sweet! thanks dude, do you have like a pen so i can copy?” sebek looked at him, deeply offended somehow. “you cannot be serious, human! i did not come here just to let you copy my homework! i have come here so I can properly explain it to you, so that you may complete it by yourself in the future!” he said, before getting shushed by the librarian (since when did this school have a librarian? well, maybe ace didn’t know because this was his first time in the library… oopsie!) the redhead rolled his eyes. “are you serious? i mean, why do you even care if i understand it or not? are you like obsessed with me?”

if it was possible for the young crocodile fae to get any angrier than he already was, then ace certainly found it. “how dare you! i have been kind enough to not only bestow you with answers for your homework, but also explain it to you, and you imply i am obsessed?!” he yelled, which seemed to cause the books in the bookshelves to rattle. wait. were they really rattling? “sebek, calm down dude. it’s not that serious.” ace attempted, eyeing the books. “do not tell me how to feel, human!” he yelled again, and the rattling seemed to get worse. a book flew out (yes, flew out) of the bookshelf and started flying around the library. oh great, flying magical books. just what the ginger needed today. “dude you’re gonna get us kicked out!” he whisper-yelled to sebek, hoping to calm him down before all hell broke loose. “ive told you before, don’t tell me how to feel!” he yelled again, and ace felt like he could see his life flash before his eyes, as a book flew past him, narrowly avoiding his head. all of the magical books had left their bookshelves, and it seemed like they were really pissed at sebek for disturbing their peaceful slumber. “RUN!” ace yelled.

the ginger stood up first, already realising what was happening. sebek was being too loud, and woke up the books. and now they were angry, and out for blood. however, even with the headstart, ace was not all that fast. he started slowing down after his initial sprint, but he could hear the flapping of books behind him and already catching up. but that’s when he saw his saving grace. sebek dashed past him, not even breaking a sweat. “SEBEK! BUDDY, WAIT!” ace yelled out, reaching out his hand towards the taller figure. the half human in questioned turned his head to look at ace, and look at the approaching flock of books. he mulled over his options for a second, but gave in. he ran back towards ace, and instead of waiting for him to say something, he just picked him up bridal style. “hey, hold on, this seems a little gay-“ ace tried to say, before sebek dashed off again, ace in his arms.

while there were a lot of things he could say right now, the main thing he wanted to say was that damn, feeling the wind blowing through his hair really did feel good. maybe he should ask sebek to carry him more often. oh, wait, yeah, the d Diasomnia student is carrying him. “dude, can you like give me a piggyback ride or something? this looks super sus, imagine if somebody snaps a picture of us.” ace said, but sebek paid it no mind. he continued running, looking straight ahead of him. “are you even listening-“ ace attempted, but he was quickly cut off by his saviour. “listen here, human! either you cease your whining, or I let go of you and let you deal with the angry flock of books by yourself. currently, the latter option seems more attractive.” ace yelped, shaking his head. “it’s totally fine, i love being carried bridal style! keep on running dude, just get us out of here.

eventually, sebek outran the flock. ace really wanted to tell him to put him down, but after the fae’s last scolding about bothering him, he decided it would be best to keep his mouth shut. he’d hate it if sebek like, brought ace back to the books. that would be horrible. ace wasn’t actually sure what the books could do to him, but it didn’t seem all that pleasant. eventually, the two of them ended up in the mirror room. sebek let go of ace, effectively letting him fall to the ground. “ow, what did you do that for?!” he exclaimed, rubbing his tailbone. “it is your deserved punishment for annoying me to the point of waking up the library books! anyhow, this is your stop. i would carry you to heartslabyul itself, but i have already helped you out too much.” while sebek was talking, the ginger he was just carrying had a realisation. “fuck! i left my homework at the library!” he groaned, smacking himself in the forehead with his hand. he stood up, letting out a sigh. “god dammit. do you think crewel would believe me that a flock of angry books made me leave behind my homework?” at that comment, sebek let out a small laugh. however, hearing sebek laugh made ace… giddy? he wasn’t sure how to describe it, but it felt weird. making sebek laugh didn’t make him feel like how he felt when he made deuce laugh, or grim, or even trey. it put a smile on his face, as corny as it sounds.

“so, uh, see you tomorrow maybe?” ace said, putting his hands in his pockets. the green-haired half-fae looked down at him oddly. “yes. see you tomorrow. do not get lost on the way to your dorm.” sebek stepped through the mirror and into diasomnia dorm. ace watched him, until the mirror’s reflection transformed into the familiar heartslabyul dorm, and the ginger stepped in, a pep in his step as he made his way towards his room. he’d so write about today in his diary.
