Chapter 2: Your stare was holdin'

Notes:

A more lighthearted look at Jiang Cheng's life as an uncle.

Chapter Text

Multiple crackling noises could be heard as the camera was readjusted in someone’s grip. Heavy breathing was also present.

“Is it recording?” Jin Ling’s voice could be heard asking someone off camera. His face was currently taking up all of the space.

“It is!” Another kid’s voice exclaimed in the background.

“Alright then,” more static could be heard before the camera was set up. “Turn on the music!” Jin Ling yelled to the person off camera while making motions that would lead them over.

“Here we go~” The music began to play and soon another kid stepped into the frame. This one being a tiny bit bigger than Jin Ling though you could still tell that they were the same age. A whopping eight years old.

“Hey jiujiu, Zizi and I will be performing for you so please let him sleep over,” Jin Ling made a pouty face, Ouyang Zizhen, or “Zizi” nodded as he also pouted. Once the intro to the song was over they got their “serious” faces on and began to perform.

“I threw a wish in the well,” Jin Ling lip synched to the song they had chosen as he tapped his foot dramatically.

“Don’t ask me I’ll never tell,” He flipped his hair dramatically while turning away from Zizhen and then stopped moving completely. Zizhen then began to move on to the next lyric.

“I looked to you as it fell,” he whipped his head to look at Jin Ling and his hair moved along with him.

“And now you’re in my way,” he nudged Jin Ling with his finger before stopping again. Jin Ling seemed to animate again.

“I trade my soul for a wish,” he dramatically reenacted something getting dragged out of his chest.

“Pennies and dimes for a kiss,” he swayed his hips before blowing a kiss to Zizhen. Zizhen “reanimated” and caught the kiss before Jin Ling stopped.

“I wasn’t looking for this,” Zizhen sighed dramatically while shaking his head.

“And now you’re in my way,” he once again nudged Jin Ling which seemed to animate him. All of a sudden they both turned to look at the camera and broke out into a tiny bit of choreography they had planned earlier.

“Your stare was holdin,” they sang as they moved their hips.

“Ripped jeans, skin was showin,” It was then that they both kicked off their pants and the clothing fell out of frame.

“Hot night, wind was blowin,” they pretended to fall but soon jumped back up.

“Where you think you’re going, baby?” They both dramatically turned to each other.

The rest of the song was spent with them fighting each other. As the video ended, Jiang Cheng turned to look at the children with a look that read “I’m not impressed.” Jin Ling sighed before turning back to the room.

“C’mon Zizi, I’ll help you pack up your bag,” Jin Ling wrapped his arm around Zizhen as they both dragged their feet into the room. Once Jiang Cheng heard the door close behind them, he let out a laugh that he had been holding in until then. He felt his heartbeat with adoration for his nephew as well as his nephew’s childhood friend. He was glad they had each other to grow up with. Unfortunately, Zizhen still couldn’t stay the night.

Notes:

This scene has been stuck in my head for like two weeks already so I decided to write it out. I've planned two more scenes for uncle jiang cheng but not sure if I'll ever get around to writing them so this will be marked as completed.
