Chapter Text
To say that his day had been busy would have been an understatement. After his detour to the dressing room, he hadn’t had a free minute to breathe. There were new bodyguard recruits in the compound now and he was scheduled to help train them. This alone was a task that would have taken him the whole day, but it appeared that even more tasks were thrown his way. Tankhun had thrown a temper tantrum and demanded Porsche help him choose a new favourite drama. After that debacle was solved with a lot of tears, he thought he could have gone back to training the new recruits, but no, he was assigned another task, namely presenting the yet unfinished security detail of the celebration to Big, and then another task and another and another. There really had been no time to breathe, except for a quick coffee break with Kinn, where everything had been consumed, except for coffee.
The clock read 12 p.m. when Porsche finally sat down in front of his computer, trying to make sense of the corrections that Big had proposed for the evening of Khun Korns's birthday party. When Porsche had presented the plan, Big had made little notes to address certain issues. But as Porsche flipped through the pages, he couldn’t decide if Big had wanted to spite him or if the man wanted to test him, but the protection plan for the evening was full of mistakes and some of his writing was unrecognizable. The more Porsche read of it, the more he needed to rewrite the whole thing. It took him well over five hours and when he was done, the whole window that showed Bangkok was beginning to lighten at the edges, with the first rays of the sun gleaming on the horizon.
Porsche tried to suppress a yawn for the umpteenth time and rubbed his eyes, tiredness clinging to every cell of his being. His eyes felt like someone had dropped sand in them, and his head felt like seconds away from exploding. He wasn’t just tired anymore – he was utterly exhausted and his whole body screamed at him to just rest. And maybe that was not such a bad idea.
With a sigh, he shut down his computer and threw himself on the couch in Pete’s and his shared room, his own bed seemed too far away at this point. He wasn’t even lying down yet when his heart began to speed up.
He was too late. Four gunshots rang out in quick succession. Kinn was lying on the ground, his stomach and ribcage ripped open by the bullets, his face slack, and his eyes staring ahead into the unseen. The pool of blood around his body grew rapidly. Porsche could already smell the coppery scent in the air. He fell down next to Kinn, cradling the lifeless body in his arms, calling his name but -
Porsche ripped his eyes open, willing the images to go. His heart was beating in overdrive now, and he could feel the sweat dripping down his neck, shivers racking his body.
Great, now he even had nightmares before he managed to fall asleep. Porsche wiped the sweat from his brow and sat up, trying to get his breathing back under control. In and out. In and out. Maybe sleeping had not been such a good idea after all. He did not want to see Kinn die over and over again.
It was useless to try and fall back asleep at this point. He quickly got up and threw on the first clothes he could find, not caring what it was. Maybe walking would help calm him down, he thought. And after all, patrolling the house was always great to make sure everything was fine – that Kinn was fine.
He didn’t know when Kinn had become such a big part of his life, or more importantly his heart. After all, he only knew the man for a few months now, and Kinn was probably one of the most dangerous men in all of Bangkok. But these few nights in the woods unlocked something in his heart. He saw Kinn in a different light, not the cruel and collected mafia boss, but the real Kinn who was open, who he could tease mercilessly, and who smiled so brightly that it hurt to look at him. That innocent smile that made Porsche fall in love with Kinn.
He didn’t want to admit why but just the mere thought of losing Kinn terrified him, and with all the death threats Kinn faced on a daily basis, this was no unfounded fear.
Porsche wandered aimlessly through the corridors of the complex, not really noticing where he was going until he realised, he ended up right before Kinn’s entrance to his private quarters. He was halfway to raising his hand and knocking when out of the corner of his eye, he caught the tiny dial of his clock showing that it was a quarter past five in the morning.
Like almost every person in the compound, Kinn was most likely asleep. There really was no necessity to wake him up now, just because Porsche couldn’t sleep because of a few insignificant nightmares. He lowered his hand, a strange sense of calmness overcoming him. If Porsche was in front of Kinn’s door, he would make sure that nothing could happen to Kinn. It’s not that he didn’t trust the nightshift security detail, but he trusted himself more.
He slid down in front of Kinn’s door, his tiredness making itself known now in full force, his head leaning against the door and his eyes falling closed against his will. Maybe he could just rest here for a few minutes was his last thought before sleep finally claimed him.
