Chapter Text
As it turned out, Izuku had been more than ready for the exams. He passed the written test with flying colors and he also earned high praise for the support items he had brought in. Izuku was so happy, proud, and nervous.
He knew that he should feel proud, but he also could not help but to feel sadness as well. He had learned to handle his quirklessness better, and not to see it as a burden. But it was hard.
Especially since he would not be able to attend the hero course. He wouldn’t be able to be a Hero. But he also knew that when his thoughts got like this, he would refer to what Kanade-sensei had told him: “A quirk does not make you who you are.”
Whenever he thought badly about himself, he would remember those words. And that he could be a hero. While he did not have a quirk of his own, he could still save lives and be a hero in a different way. And he would make sure to remember that.
When the letter from UA arrived, Izuku’s mother had rushed into his room with the envelope, a nervous look upon her face. “Izuku!” She exclaimed, panting heavily as she shoved the letter in his face. “It’s here! The acceptance letter!”
Izuku gasped as he grabbed it from her hands. A nervous smile had etched across his face as he looked at it. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to open it in front of her or not. But, he was getting a little impatient and he wanted to know if he had gotten in or not.
With a deep breath, Izuku ripped open the letter and was shocked to see a small projector-like object pop out and land upon his computer desk. His mother was no longer in his room and had decided to close the door, giving him some privacy. He was grateful to be honest, as he would need the space to process everything.
“Midoriya Izuku!” A booming voice sounded from the screen and Izuku yelped and almost jumped to the ceiling. “Whaaaa!” He shouted and caught himself on his computer chair before he actually did fall and hurt himself.
When he looked at the screen, his eyes widened in shock and surprise. “A-A-All Might?!” Izuku gasped as he stared at the hero standing in the middle of the screen, his hands upon his hips and a smile upon his face. He had heard the rumors that the Pro-Hero would be a new teacher at the Academy. But he had no idea that he would be the one giving him his results!
“You scored highly amongst your peers young man! I would also like to tell you that your Support items were impressive as well! I would love to learn more about how you were able to conduct an item that could withstand heat!” He bellowed excitedly, moving his arms around expressively. “Young Midoriya, you have proved yourself not only to be intelligent, but an impressive inventor as well. And without further adieu, I would like to tell you that you have passed young man.”
“W-What?” Izuku whispered, his eyes still huge and brimming with tears.
He passed?
He passed!
This was it! Although he never got a quirk and couldn’t be in the Hero course, he was still going to the school of his dreams!
“Welcome, to UA! You’ve earned this young man and I know that you can accomplish anything!” All Might bowed toward Izuku before the screen went black and the mini-projector turned itself off.
Izuku sat in silence for a few moments, slowly wiping away the tears that had ran down his face. He was in shock, happy, proud, and confused all at the same time. He could not believe this. Not only was he going to the school of his dreams, but he was also going to be in school with All Might!
He also knew that Kacchan would be there as well. But that was something he would deal with in the future. Right now, he needed to focus on the task at hand. Which was to tell his mother and then call Kanade-sensei.
“Mom!” Izuku shouted, running out of his room. He had almost knocked his mother over from the door being forced open and he quickly grabbed her before she could fall over. “I did it mom! I’m going to UA!”
“Oh my, Izuku! I am so happy for you!” Inko cried as she held her son tightly. She always knew that he could do it. It broke her heart when her son got depressed over not having a quirk as well as everything that happened after. She was so grateful for Kanade Shimizu.
Both of them were.
“I’m making your favorite, Katsudon! Why don’t you go ahead and call Kanade-san while I go make it, okay? Oh, honey! I am just so proud of you!” She gave him one last hug before she scrambled to the kitchen. Izuku smiled fondly after she left. In all honesty, he was so glad that he had her.
She had always been in his corner. He just wished that he had noticed that when his thoughts and the depression had gotten really bad. His mother has been through a lot and he not only wanted to do this for his own sake, but he wanted to make her proud as well.
Once he knew his mother was in the kitchen, Izuku pulled out his phone to call Kanade-sensei. The phone rang twice before she answered and the young man let out a shaky breath before he told her the news. “Oh, Izuku! I am so proud of you! I knew you could do it! You deserve this!” She exclaimed happily.
“You’ve come a long way, Izuku. You’ve proven yourself to be a fine young man and I know you will do very well in school. Show the world you can be a hero in your way!” Kanade-sensei exclaimed and Izuku could feel the tears within his eyes once more.
He was truly blessed for her too.
“Honestly, I have you to thank. Had it not been for you or my mom I wouldn’t have been able to do this.” Izuku admitted shyly, a smile upon his face.
“That’s not true Izuku. We might have given you the push you needed, but you accomplished everything on your own. I am truly proud of you. And from what I hear, UA has dorms now correct?”
“Ah! That’s right! I completely forgot!”
“Hah! Well, since you will probably be in the Support course, I bet you will be able to bring your equipment with you as well!”
In all honesty, Izuku had not even thought about that. He knew that the dorms were new and had been built ever since the hero students had too many run-ins with villains, but he had not considered the fact that he would be there as well. Ah, man! He was going to miss his mom. But more importantly…
“We’ll still be able to have our sessions, right?”
“Of course! We will keep our sessions, we will just have to adjust them to work with your new school schedule. Nothing to fear, Izuku.” She promised him.
Izuku sighed in relief. He was truly grateful for that. Although he was excited for going to UA, he wanted to make sure that he could keep his appointments with Kanade-sensei. They were important to him as well as his growth.
“Thank you, Kanade-sensei. I will talk to you soon!” Izuku smiled as she congratulated him once again before hanging up.
He could do this!
He was more than ready!
A week has passed since his acceptance letter and Izuku was getting ready to start school at UA. However, before he could even do that, he had to settle into the dorms first. His mother was currently with him as they grabbed a cart and loaded his boxes from the car and onto it.
The dorm building was huge and the school itself was even larger. He was a little nervous about getting lost. But he knew that he could do this. Even if he was starting a little later than others. He would have a lot to do in order to catch-up, but he could do this!
As he stared up at the building in front of him, only one thought was crossing his mind:
I’m here, Kacchan! I’ve made it and I’ll make you see that I’m more than the quirkless deku you used to know!
