Chapter Text

October 12th

"Dude, you’re so in love it’s sickening!" Kaitlyn exclaimed, throwing her head back dramatically.

Dylan and Kaitlyn were sitting on the couch in his apartment, with Kaitlyn showing up uninvited to confront him about missing their usual study sessions in the library. This forced him to explain how he mainly went there to attempt to befriend Ryan, which caused Kaitlyn to tease him mercilessly.

"It’s not sickening!" Dylan huffed. "Ya know, you’re just jealous you haven’t found your future spouse!"

"Are you trying to imply that you’re going to marry Ryan? Slow down. You guys just met a few days ago."

"Hmph. It sounds like jealousy to me. I could totally make Ryan swoon over me, trust me."

"With what? Your butt jokes?"

"Hey! I'll have you know I haven’t made a singular butt joke around him," he said, jabbing a finger at Kaitlyn. He mainly held back because he didn’t want to scare Ryan off with immature jokes, even though that was what Blasé Dylan was all about.

Kaitlyn let out a snort and had a look of amusement on her face as she wiped a tear from her eye. A wave of confidence engulfed him because Kaitlyn used to be the type to argue with him when he made crude jokes, but now she has gotten used to it and even joined in. Score!

“What a surprise, I didn’t know you had an ounce of self-control,” Kaitlyn teased, playfully bumping her shoulder against his.

“Stop with the Dylan slander, I could kick you out and make you go back to your lonely place,” Dylan teased back. “And for the record, I do have self-control! Especially around Ryan, I don’t wanna mess up my chances. Well.. honestly I’m surprised I haven’t fucked up, have you seen me? I’m like, the definition of a mess.”

A glint of guilt was evident in Kaitlyn’s eyes, which made Dylan sink down into the couch.

“Hey dude, I know I tease the hell out of you but it’s completely normal to be a mess, especially during college,” Kaitlyn replied. She then began whispering, “don’t tell anyone but I think you’re funny, and don’t let that get to your ego.”

“Pft. Thanks Kait; sorry I got all moody.”

“Don’t apologize, dork. Sometimes we need a bit of reassurance, hell, sometimes I need it. We’re human.”

“Heh, you’re getting all philosophical on me now.”

“Shut the fuck up, I’m trying to be nice!” Kaitlyn groaned, shoving Dylan lightly. He could spot the smile on her face, but wouldn’t dare say he saw it because he wouldn’t want to face the wrath of her.

Dylan snorted, “I know, I know. I appreciate it, really. You’re the best friend a man could have.”

“Okay, dork.”

Notes:

I’m sorry this chapter is really short! I’ve been busy with school and with Christmas so I haven’t had a chance to really sit down and write, so have this little snippet of Kaitlyn and Dylan’s friendship!

Notes:
