Chapter 4: How was I supposed to see the way?

Summary:

Life keeps going.

Notes:

Surprise bitch, you though you seen the last of me, but I'm still here! FYI I've also changed some minor stuff in the last three chapters that I recommend re-reading through to make everything flow a little better. I'll probably still editing previous chapter's occasionally since this fic is getting developed, but nothing major!

Don't wait for chapter five cause I've only got an outline, but apart form that I hope you like this because it is the longest chapter to date (I think) so have fun ready this angsty piece!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

He’s gone.

That was the first thing Toshinori heard from Tsukauchi when they had found their way into an abandoned Tartarus, it had taken almost two days after the attack before the building to have been deemed safe enough to enter. Two day to long, the cell Izuku had been occupying was wide open, a single chair with heavy restraints had been pull to pieces like a child with play doe.

It was the first time he had actually seen the living conditions Izuku had been in for the past month, since he wasn’t actually ably to see Izuku, but he was able to chat to his boy, Izuku never once mentioned what it was like. Now that Toshinori was standing in the room, the feeling of rage and disgust boiled in his blood, it was cruel, everything thing was just far too cruel.

Four more days, if this had happened four days prior Young Midoriya would have been back with them, he would have been safe. Instead, he was gone, not a trace of him left to follow. He promised Young Midoriya that he would pick him up on Sunday, he personally planned to collect his successor from the gates and hug him until the boy had enough.

His mother would have been there to collect him as well, having spent the last few day preparing for her sons return back into her custody. The commission had raided her apartment for any evidence of him being the traitor, they had essentially destroyed everything. Leaving Ms Midoriya to clean up the pieces, Toshinori had helped her sweep up the floor and dispose of the damage furniture, it was the same day he had told her about One for All; it had been a lot in one day. Mr and Ms Bakugou had come in at some point to help her with the furniture and clothes, because Young Bakugou had asked them too.

Even though his boy would be walking back into his clean home, there were some things that were inevitable missing; they had taken a lot Young Izuku stuff, especially the notebooks, even the ones he had written when he was only a pre-schooler. Much to Toshinori failure he couldn’t get them back, instead he had a stack of new ones brought, ready for use.

Gran Torino and he had argued over what type of notebook to buy, till they got kicked out of the store and had to go to another one. And on the way home he complained none stop about how his knee’s ached, and how Toshinori was a ‘no-good successor making his mentor struggle like this’.

His mentor then took him to a street side taiyaki stand after Toshinori blew up at him, all a ruse to make Toshinori snap at someone, so he’s release his pent-up emotions. Gran had never been one for feelings, but he wouldn’t be a human if he didn’t have at least some empathy for the situation, even if it was in his own tough love sort of way.

…His cape was all that was left of him now, neatly washed and repaired by some kind hero support students, who had been repairing all the capes and support items of fallen heroes to be displayed at their funeral, whenever that may be.

Originally it was going to be one of many presents for young Midoriya return to UA in two weeks, 1-A had been planning a welcoming party, complete with food and gifts; the single goal was to remind Izuku they had been in his corner since day one. All the teachers had planned a special classes for Izuku so he could catch up on the month load of work he had been forced to miss.

It was meant to be the light at the end of this dark tunnel, everyone was preparing for a brighter future. Only now that would never happen, class had been cancelled; everything was put at stand still. Too many villains; not enough heroes, Shigaraki had made sure of that.

“You have to understand All Might, this isn’t about being innocent, it about the public safety” The president of the safety commission spoke with a tight voice, wearing loose clothes, her right arm bandaged along with her forehead. Having just come from the hospital when she heard that All Might had made his way to Tartarus to collect his successor.

He's always had an interesting relationship with the President, being the number one for decades meant the two crossed path frequently. He never called her a friend, he even hesitated to call her a co-worker, she was just a part of the job. But he found her much easier to work with her then old predecessor, who made it his personally mission to control every aspect of Toshinori career. Hate would have been too strong to describe his feeling towards him, but Toshinori remembers shedding no tears when he passed away seventeen years ago from a sudden heart attack.

All might looked back at the chair that he had been reluctantly told had contained his successor.

Reluctantly may have been too soft to describe the sheer fear that the commission felt, everyone pushing the responsibility on to this poor intern to be the one to tell Toshinori that they had lied to his face and strapped a sixteen-year-old child into a chair in a windowless, forever lit white room.

It was no wonder Izuku ran the first chance he got, but muscular atrophy wouldn’t have been kind to him. No doubt with a little bit of rehabilitation he would have been back to full health in no time, but in a middle of the country deadliest prison break…

He was all alone, and Toshinori wasn’t there.

“All might please we can’t stay here, the building unstable” the president pleaded, eyes shifting to the door. “All Might-“

“Is he alive!?” Toshinori retorted, the chill in his voice made the desolate room suffocating to stand in. “Or did you waddle over here from your private room in the hospital just to spew more shit about how all of this is for our society? Because right now our society is crumbling, thousands of Heroes and civilians are dead, many more are injured, and you have the guile to say that what you did was right-!”

“I did what I had to!” She yelled back her composer snapping, “you may have the moral high ground now All Might but back then we had a call to make, and I. Made. It…. I didn’t get where I was by being a good person All Might. I got here because when we get information about a child with multiple quirks who was quirkless not a year prior, a possible traitor in one of the most prestigious school in the world, and said child having made contacts with the league of villain; or the paranormal liberation army, as they call themselves now, which might I add had an army estimated at over 11,000, I did what I had to do to keep thing from falling apart!” She shouted, the weight of the last fourteen years of her career hitting her shoulders with full force.

“Then why Tartarus? You could have placed him in Zagreus, the children prison, cause that what he is, a child” Toshinori butted back, throwing his hands up in emphasis. “Surely everything wasn’t so close to falling apart that you had to chain him to a chair like some rabid dog and let him suffer in this god-awful room, alone!”

Oh god he was all alone’ Toshinori thought, a lump lodging in the back of his throat as the image of his boy alone in a sterile white room begging for help.

“I didn’t know he was tied up like this, this wasn’t my call to make” the president brushed off, struggling to regain her composure, but it was far too late.

“How convenient for you, blame your mistake on someone else!”

She scoffed “You are not innocent in this either All Might, none of this would have happened if you had just been honest about One for All” the hollow look in her eyes showed nothing but bitterness. “Perhaps this is proof that your successor wasn’t worthy”

The room fell into silence again, the petty rebuttal about how not trusting the commission, died on Toshinori tongue. He stood up straighter, he never like towering over people with his height, but he could appreciate the power it gave him. He could argue with her all evening; but arguing wouldn’t bring Izuku back…it couldn’t bring anyone back. “Is. He. Alive” Toshinori bit out, his hero voice twisting around his tone like a snake.

The president back up slightly, visibly gulping, but in a way that made it like she was clearing her throat. “We haven’t found his body- “

“That’s not what I asked”.

Her eyes shifted from his face to the ground, “…. we don’t know”.

“Then we’re done here” Toshinori growled, walking past her, feeling the phantom cries of Midoriya wanting him to stay clawed at his heart as he existed the room.

“Wait! You can’t All Might…. With everything going on…. That boy he’s… heroes still need…” she stumbled over her words, before eventually falling silent as she looked around helplessly. Giving up the chase as the reality of the situation continue to sink in, she ran a hand down her face, not crying, just lost.

In another situation he might have comforted her, but at the moment that was the last thing he wanted to do.

Forty years had never felt like such a waste before now; Izuku was out there all alone, in an unknown condition or worse he wasn’t alone. All for One had Search, he already knew Izuku was here, so happy to point it out apparently. There was no way he let One for All go, there’s no doubt he would hurt Izuku, it had already been two days how much could All for One do to his boy in two days the nomu doctor had escaped custody… his side started to hurt as the blood pooled in his throat.

“Toshinori” Tsukauchi, grabbed his arm, stopping him in his tracks, the sound of rain echo just outside, a far cry from the silence of the room Izuku had been in.

Izuku…’ the word rolled around his mind, when had started calling young Midoriya by his given name?

How long had he been walking?

“We need to go” he replied coughing into his hand, the blood standing out against how pale his skin had gotten. “…We just need to go” he repeated with a distant voice, hoping Tsukauchi didn’t push further.

“…I’ll get the car”.

Chizome loomed over the city, feet perched on the guard rail on top of a humble apartment building, close to where he prey dwells. He watches with sharp eye, a high-end armoured car makes its way through the quite streets to its location, the window were heavily tinted, but the inhabitants’ silhouette could been faintly glimpsed. He had only bee free for two days, but he had been busy since his shackles had crumbled away, the world had kept moving without him, and learning of the events that had taken place during his untimely capture had been… an unexpected experience.

Chizome didn’t see himself as a religious man. He had his conviction, his belief, his goals; but he never did believe in some higher being that ruled from the sky, unseen yet all powerful. In his mind, he believed that if a god existed, they would make themselves known. Because if a god of myth is truly all powerful, then they have nothing to fear, and fear is the killer of the mind.  For as long as he has existed, he has witnessed true gods, men and women holding power that could shape the sky and twist the earth.

No such man could claim the title such as All Might, at least that was his belief. However, when he saw the video of an all-powerful man that none could defeat reduced to a mere sickly mortal, Chizome couldn’t help but start to believe in the gods of old, after all if the closet being to what people called a god could be reduced to that, then maybe they really did have a reason to conceal themselves in myth. In all honesty he should have known that when the demon king himself was defeated after a century of his rule.

But a part of his naïve hope was the knowledge that perhaps he was just witnessing the changing of the guard, for it seems All for One had turned Shigaraki from a spoiled brat into a true king of evil. That had been a surprise seeing Shigaraki having evolved into what could be considered a god; meanwhile it seems All Might successor had fallen into darkness.

One for All was a name he had heard being thrown around quite a lot in the last two days, Izuku Midoriya seemed to be a prime candidate for what the name represents. It didn’t take long to find out were the mother lived since it seemed people had been leaking that Information about her current where about, and if the boy was truly the chosen successor of All Might then the man was bound to pay them a visit eventually.

It was nice to know even with the months spent locked away in the depths of hell he hadn’t lost his touch.

He watched the car turn a corner out of sight, he adjusted his hold on the small metal box he had been intrusted. Standing up he got a full view of the city scape, already there seemed to be damage across the area, houses had been abandoned and the city in the distance had been reduced too a ghost town. A general sense of uneasiness had fallen over the country, for the first time in decades, people finally saw the darkness that had been nipping at their heels all this time; like a predator waiting to strike.

They saw evils teeth in full glory and felt shocked that it had always been there, so safe in their pen they couldn’t see what had always been until the fence broke and let them in. He could have stayed all night basking in the fact that he had always been right, but he had a responsibility to do.

Chizome took a single step off the railing, ready to strike his prey.

All Might

“There’s no sign of him at Tartarus, he's been taken by All for One, I’m sorry”

Inko read over the message again, her shaking hands rattling the phone, much like how the windows rattled under the growing storm brewing outside.

She knew the odd of Izuku being uninjured was low but to be completely gone, taken by a mad man with a grudge, sent her whole world came crashing down in that moment, she knew it was going to be bad, but it didn’t stop it from ripping out her heart and brutalising it with a sledgehammer. Inko had never had a strong heart to begin with, perhaps when she was younger, but it had grown weaker the older she got; helplessness over her lot in life hadn’t made her stronger, it just hurt.

“FUCKING BULLSHIT” Katsuki shouted behind her, throwing his phone across the room, in the distance the sound of thunder matched his fury.

Inko looked over at Katsuki, who had volunteered to help her move out of her apartment. Since learning he wasn’t allowed to participate in any patrols, he practically kicked his parents out with a firm ‘I’ll handle it’ and had been helping her pack boxes for the last three hours, but in reality the two of them had been waiting for the call from All Might to confirm what they already knew.

She had gotten a call from the Principal of UA, that due to the recent mass scale villain attack she needed to move on to the UA campus for her own protection. All students’ parents were being moved, due to the high risk they all had of being attacked. The fact that her child hadn’t been at UA for the past month had been steadily ignored, along with the knowledge that Izuku wouldn’t be returning to UA with her.

“Fuck, fuck, FUCK!” he cursed, “This whole situation is fucked!” Katsuki growled, angrily gripping on to his hair “…He’s dead, there’s no way he can’t be” He added, lowly voice cracking.

“Don’t say that!” Inko wailed, eye tearing as her voice cracked, “All Might said they didn’t find any sign of him, so he can’t be… he can’t…” she sobbed not being able to finish. There was hope, Izuku was still alive, she knew he was still alive because her baby never gave up.

The world may have made her weak, but it had made her son strong, she refused to believe that Izuku wouldn’t find a way to live.

“All for One wouldn’t let him live” Katsuki answered more to himself then her, hollow eye staring down at the floor.

He feel silent as the rain pattered against the windows softly.

Inko sobbed, folding in her herself as another text binged from All Might, she could see the words Coming Back through her tears, but the rest was a blurry mess. She had been so close to getting her son back, after a month of invasive question, unearthed lies and crushing heartbreak she just wanted to hold her son in her arms again, and tell him everything would be ok.

Was anything ever ok?’ a little voiced whispered in the back of her mind.

The reveal of One for All, her sons quirk, had been nothing less than a knife to her gut. She always knew Izuku didn’t share everything with her, he didn’t have to. But the fact he kept a secret that big from her had been clawing at the back of her mind for weeks. She was planning on talking about it when he got out, planning to ask him…Why? She couldn’t feel angry over him getting a quirk just disappointed in herself, disappointed that once again she wasn’t enough.

“Do… do you think he got Izu- One for all, could Shigaraki take it?” Inko queried, her gut twisting at the image of her child screaming as the quirk he worked so hard for was ripped out by a mad man.

“…If he want One for all but can’t take it, then he might have just taken Izuku alive instead” Katsuki replied, glaring at the floor as all the possible scenarios played behind his eyes. “I don’t know…I don’t. Fucking. Know” he growled at himself, flexing his hands in mock control as his breathing slowly became deeper, laborious.

Inko reached out at touched his shoulder, the boy flinched, turning to stone under her touch. The cusp of the meltdown he was having stalled, just enough to have him regain his breathing.

“Will wait for All Might to get back and will figure out what we will do from there” Inko stated slowly, her voice having a slight wobble.

Katsuki scoffed “Right now we’re fucking useless, so there’s nothing more to say about it” he added harshly.

Inko gripped his shoulder tighter.

“…How long..” she tentatively began. “How long did you know about One for All” her voice was dry, but her eyes shone with a sense of grit, while Katsuki refused to look at her. “I wanted to ask when Izuku was here but… I just want to know when Izuku told you, or if you figured it out…” her lips quivered slightly wanting to say more but couldn’t.

It was a poor attempt to distract, she knew that, maybe it was also selfish as well. She wanted to know why her son had trusted his middle school bully more than her with such a major secret. Katsuki didn’t answer straight away, eye’s still at his feet, but his hands slowly unfurled from his hair.

“…He told me on our second day, the day I lost our fight” he breathed in slowly, “I didn’t believe him, looking back he probably only told me out of pity… I was such a brat about losing” the tone was low, dull, and disconnected; like he was recounting it for a case file.

“When did you believe it?” she encouraged, hand still on his back like an anchor.

“After Kamino, I knew something was up. He was the only one who took All Might message differently, for what it was… then I failed the Licence exam, and I confronted him about it, we-” His eyes darted left and right for a second, words stuck in his throat. “…All Might found us and told me the story” he added after a beat of silence. Inko knew he left the part out were the two of them got into a fight, Inko knew because she gotten a call about it and his parents had come to her place to apologise for their son behaviour.

“Do you know why he never told me?” she finally asked, not wanting to hear the answer she already knew.

Katsuki head snapped to her; mouth open slightly as he struggled to form the words. “I…No I don’t know why he never told you, “He answered after thinking, looking back down, “You know what he’s like.. he just…he probably wanted to protect you, or something… ugh! I don’t know!” was added hastily, a few tears escaping, hitting the ground soundlessly. “Look it doesn’t matter ok! You know De- Izuku he just keeps everything to himself and never let’s anyone see that he’s struggling, that he looks helpless! It’s just who he is” Katsuki finished his palms grinding into his eyes to stop the tears from forming.

Inko couldn’t help but agree, she wasn’t sure where he got that mentality from, but he had it for as long as she could remember. Even when he was a baby he seemed determined to do things on his own, practicing for hours at everything until he got it right. Although some wouldn’t notice at first glance, Izuku had a lot of pride, he was humble but stubborn and hated feeling like a burden.

He’d hate the One for All is known now, did All Might tell him who knew? does that even matter, the secret is getting out, I heard it on the news.” Inko felt the pit in her stomach gnaw at her sides, “One for All becoming more known, the information spilling out ever since the Hero commission got attacked, that could persuade All for One in keeping Izuku close until he can take it for himself, a quirk that All Might had is bound to be enticing to countless of people.” Inko stated, rationalising her thoughts, All Might said that Izuku wasn’t there, no body, nothing. And All for One didn’t sound like the person to kill a holder of One for All discreetly if past experiences were to go off.

“UGH, it doesn’t matter now, this whole things was never meant to happen, when I find that real traitor I’m going to pop their head off their stupid neck” Katsuki growled, little explosions emitting from his hands, only to wince as he actions aggravated his wounds.

“Katsuki…” Inko began, roughly but he pulled her hand off his shoulder.

No!” He spat as a loud struck of thunder reverberated around the room. “This whole thing us just messed up, none of this is right! Izuku shouldn’t have been in Tartarus to begin with, he shouldn’t have gotten framed, he had so many powerful people in his corner and yet he still got the short end of the stick!  This whole thing reeks of foul play, the commission is up to something can’t you see it!” He cried out desperately, glaring at Inko.

“…What?” Inko replied barely above a whisper, “What do you mean foul play?”

Katsuki sniffled, “I mean someone inside the Commission had a good reason for wanting to have Izuku out of the way, keeping him out of the battle. All Might told me the not only the wicked seek power, meaning we might have another enemy out there” Inko could hear the paranoia seeping into Katsuki words.

Truthfully the though of Izuku being framed had crossed her mind several times, but she never thought it would be via the Hero safety commission. But then again, with everything that’s happened in the past month, she wouldn’t put them past them to frame someone, but the real question was why? Why her son of all people, no one knew of One for All outside of a select few, none of whom had any motive to become traitors.

“Just look at what happened in the last three days, the battle we just had should have been cut and dry, we had the upper hand for everything and look where we ended up!” He barked out tear running down his cheek. “Midnight, Endeavor, Manual, Rock Lock, Ryukuu, Gran Torino! So many are dead, and then we got heroes dropping out the second things got tough. And Mr Aizawa is in such bad shape they have no idea if he’ll make it to the end of the week!” Katsuki spat, pacing around the room angrily.

“Katsuki-“

“It’s Bullshit!” He snapped at her, unruly tears streaming down his face. “All of this is just fucking Bullshit! And I can’t do I single fucking thing about it!” He heaved in a breath, clenching his shirt. “Its God damn Kamino all over again! I’m too fucking weak to do anything about this, I can’t stop All for One! I can’t stop the Commission! I can’t stop Shigaraki! I can’t FUCKING DO ANYTHING!”.

Inko took a step forward, grasping Katsuki shoulders again as the boy continued to wail, he covered his eyes in shame, digging the heel of his palm into his sockets so hard it hurt.

“DEKU NEED ME TO BE BY HIS SIDE! I WAS GOING TO DO THINGS RIGHT, I HAD TO DO THINGS RIGHT, BUT I STILL. FUCKING. FAIL-“

“Enough!” All Might’s hero voiced boomed around the room, Katsuki stuttering to a dead stop as he stared at All Might with shock. “that’s enough my boy” he said a little more gently. He looked worn down, his hair was dripping with water and his eye didn’t have the blue shine to them anymore, instead was just hollow and empty. His clothes looks slightly dirty and a wet from the rain outside, but otherwise intact.

Inko blinked out the tears in her eyes, it had been a long day for everyone involved, but it always rattled her to see All Might looking so… defeated, it hurt as much to see Katsuki so utterly heartbroken and sobbing like a child. She couldn’t argue against the mood in the air when she herself was a mess. But Inko never saw herself as a strong person, All Might and Katsuki on the other hand were meant to be unbreakable.

“All Might… when did you get here?” Inko asked still holding on to Katsuki, he didn’t pull away from her, instead was almost actively leaning into her, preventing her from getting a towel for the man.

All Might signed walking closer to the two of them, “Just now…” he answered wearily, stopping in front of them. He placed his hand on the back of Katsuki head, the boy slightly flinched but didn’t move away. “I’m sorry, this is my fault not yours, you didn’t fail in anything young Bakugou” he explained carefully to the boy, pulling him into a half hug, “neither did you Mrs Midoriya” he added.

Katsuki sniffled against All Might shirt, only one hand tightly wring into his teacher dress shirt. Inkos’ left hand carefully reached up and cupped Katsuki face while her right took out her handkerchief and gently wiped away some of the boys’ tears.

Inko heard the soft sound of her floorboard around her door creaking, but she didn’t look in its directions, to occupied with Katsuki.

“I won’t tell a lie, it doesn’t look good, But I have a strong feeling Young Midoriya is still alive” All Might reassured, “Although I’m not sure where All for One might have taken him, right now we've only got a little information to go off of-“

Katsuki gave a strained scoff, pulling away slightly, “Yeah and how are we going to get more information on the guy who’s made a living of vanishing into thin air?”

The front door suddenly slammed shut with a loud BANG, making the three of them jump; they expected the wind when they turned to the noise, instead standing in the darken hallway was a figured holding a katana in his hand. Inko Felt her heart dropped as his face was briefly illuminated by a flash of lighting outside, animalistic would be the best to describe it.

“If it’s The Fallen Hero that you seek, perhaps I might be of some assistance?” Stain said, as the storm outside reached it peak.

The sky was a mixture of colour all swirling around each other, it was beautiful but at the same time made his eyes hurt when looking at it for too long. The mindscape felt like that whenever Izuku visited it, beautiful but painful. Back in Tartarus he didn’t have much to do but sleep and be interrogated. But after two weeks the interrogation stopped and Izuku was only left with sleep. During that time, he had been able to deepen his connection within One for All, most of the users had kept Izuku entertained as best they could, with stories of their lives or puzzles and mental games to keep him occupied.

It was the only thing that kept him sane the whole time, something that Izuku felt the other in his position weren’t so fortunate with. Nevertheless, the person Izuku had grown most attached to in his time in the mindscape had been the First; who was always an ear for him to talk to when everything got too much. He had even told him his name, Yoichi Shigaraki, which was something Izuku had been surprised about. He was also the one to reassure Izuku that the Second and Third didn’t have a grudge with him personally and were just being difficult.

After a month of Yoichi being the only person Izuku could really rely on, it was on natural he be the one to greet him when everything went from bad to worse.

There wasn’t any physical sensation in One for All just the phantom felling of it, Izuku couldn’t really feel Yoichi hand rubbing his back as he cried, but he could feel the comfort the gesture brought. It reminded him of when his mum had apologised for his quirklessness, funny how that bad memory now felt like one of comfort, just goes to show rock bottom makes anything look good.

“It’s going to be ok” Yoichi told him gently, brushing away the fat tears rolling down Izuku cheeks that was accompanied with sniffles. “I know that it doesn’t seem like it but it’s going to be ok” Yoichi reiterated, holding the child close.

Izuku looked up at the First, “I don’t know what to do, I don’t know how I’m going to get out of this, or what All for One even wants with me” he confessed as his tiny four-year hand knotted deeper into the First shirt trying to find the feeling of fabric but failing.

The mindscape seemed to reflect his mood at time shifting his form around to represent what he was feeling. Most of the time he was the half form shade that couldn’t talk or move, but other times he was just a four-year-old kid. In that form he could move and talk but he found he only looked like a child in the times when he was overwhelmed by everything. The others weren’t quite sure on why this was the case, Banjo conclusion of just being easier to hug, was an answer that made him laugh. Which right now seemed to have some solid proof behind it, because it did make him easier to hug.

Yoichi signed and pulled Izuku away from his chest, holding the child shoulder steady, “You have to survive, whatever it takes to you must be willing to do.” Izuku flinched at the words although not harsh were serious. “My brother is a cruel man, but even in his wickedness, I don’t think he is without logic. So find it, and leverage it to your advantage” Yoichi explained with a tone that spoke of a man who had been through this before.

Izuku looked at Yoichi with an unsure gaze.

It was then he started to see that the man had begun to look washed out, like the colours were bleeding out of him. It wasn’t just him either it was the whole world, the colours of the mindscape were starting to fade away, like a picture that had been left out in the sun for too long.

“What… what’s going on?”

Izuku asked in an echo, the world around him started to drain away.

“You’re just waking up”

The Yoichi sound like he was far in the distance.

He was barely humanoid now, just…light.

“It’s going to be ok”

White-hot and unbearable pain greeted him, mostly in his limps, Izuku couldn’t move them, he didn’t even want to try, his arms were already fragile without injury.

Izuku opened his crusted eyes, feeling the gunk pull at his eyelids. Harsh yellow light burned into his iris, he quickly shut them and groaned, taking a few seconds to adjust before attempting to open them again. Slowly, shyly he inched them open but even then everything still look incredibly blurry and out of focuses.

Something pulled at his hair, was it a brush? No, it was warm; it was a hand. It felt kind of like All Might’s hand, but less familiar.

"Are you sure this will work? I don't want him to die" asked the voice of All for One, he sounded deep but distant, echoing around like he was under the ocean.

That confirmed the hands owner, Izuku weakly pulled his head away from the man ‘don’t touch me’ he though lamely.

“Oh, I think he’s waking up, could that be a problem? We can sedate him if you want him asleep” All for one noticed with chuckle at Izuku attempt to escape his demented affection. An attempt that was quickly punished by All for One hand gripping into the boy’s hair like a gird lock to keep him from moving further away.

“Hmm I don’t think we can sedate him, but I might have something to calm him down…” another gruff voice states, and Izuku knows he heard that from somewhere, but he can’t quite remember where. It was like sand dripping past his fingers trying to place the voice to the face.

Izuku hissed as All for One continued to pull at his hair. Looking up at the man blurry figure smiling down at him, sent a shiver down his spine, his eyes darted to the other side so that he could see where he was and who was with him.

There were three figures besides his bed, one of them looked like Chisaki and the other figure dual hair had to belong to Lady Nagant. The third figure however was shorter than the others and just out of Izuku field of view, but he couldn’t shake the odd feeling that he seen that man before. He strained for a better view but All for One kept his head in place, tsking at him disapprovingly for squirming.

Even though Izuku didn’t see the third figure, which he assumes is a doctor, he did see something else. Kai Chisaki wiping his hands with a wet cloth, the smell of disinfectant looming in the air suddenly hit his nose… All for One had mentioned a sedative.

“It’s fine, this shouldn’t take that long, and I rather he be awake for this” Kai answered smoothly, yellow eyes piecing through the blurriness, looking down at Izuku with some twisted glee.

Izuku vaguely remembered the Doctor at the hospital after the training camp warning him the consequences of overusing One for All, to many times and his arms would be... He looked to his left spotting something metallic sitting on a side table next to the third short figure, that was enough to send Izuku heart into a panic.

Adrenalin kicked in as he buck himself out of All for One grasp, or at least tried to, Nagant was on him in an instant pinning his down the to table, her hands pressing on his already bruised limps making him hiss in from the stabbing pain it inflicted.

Chisaki as well the shorter figure took a step back, telling each other something that Izuku couldn't care to understand.

Calm. Down” Nagant harshly whispered into his ear, holding him down with an impressive amount of strength. All For One joining in as he held Izuku head with his hands so that he was forced to stare up at the harsh medical lights above.

“Ngh.. No.. Stph… legh.. Go” he slurred out, thrashing about with all his fading strength, One for All dancing under his veins, but that only reminded him of the state he was in as the aggravated his open wounds.

“Doctor” All for One called impatiently with a sign, clearly done with Izuku defiance.

A set of hands blocked out the overhead light for a second, and he felt something cool, and plastic get cupped around his nose and mouth, Izuku tried to thrash it off but it was secured on tight. ‘An oxygen mask?’ Izuku thought taking a deep breath in of something sweet that lingered on his tonged, 'what the hell are they doing?' . It was only when his brain finally caught up to the short doctors previous words did he realise that what he was breathing in wasn't oxygen, he held his breath but it was too late.

In a matter of seconds, the sweet smell had gone directly to his head and placed a mental weighted blanket over his whole body, make his thrashing more sluggish and unrefined. He tried to shake the oxygen mask off but All for One continued to hold his head still, and Lady Nagant refused to get off him, basically pinning him to the table.

If things had felt washed out before then now it was practically impossible to concentrating, the drug quickly worked through his body making everything go numb, the only silver lining was now the burning pain in his limbs was bearable. Izuku kept struggling, trying to not breath in more of the drug made his already bruised lungs burn under the strain. He kept his arms and legs moving in a vain attempt to fight off his captors but eventually his body couldn't take it and he sagged on the table, gasping for air which sent another hit of the drug into his lungs.

The group waited for a seconded before they signed in relief, lady Nagant getting off him, but All for One continued to hold his head steady. “There, that should keep him as docile as a kitten” the Third voice, the short doctor, explained all whishy-washy and echoey, Izuku still couldn’t really see them.

He did see Lady Nagant figure move around him to Chisaki, and ask him something out of ear shot, Kai scoffed in response.

“If you don’t like blood then you should probably leave, this will get messy” he told her, coming square into view, “But don’t worry, I’ve done this countless of times. In fact, he’ll be better off than he was before, something I’m sure he be very happy about” Kai added dully.

Izuku blinked sluggishly, seeing Overhaul yellow eyes staring down at him through the blurry haze that was his vision, made Izuku feel sick.

"Good, because I’m putting far too much effort into him to let him die here" All for One purred gleefully, pulling at Izuku hair like he was some docile kitten, Izuku tried to growl at the villain, but it just came out as a strangled groan. "Now that’s enough hero scripting from you, little Izuku Midoriya. Young Chisaki was only going to fix the damage you've inflicted upon yourself from your reckless behaviour of that unsuitable quirk. So, you just need to sit still for a few minutes, and it will be all over before you know it… can you do that?” All for One spoke in a mocking manner that felt like he was communicating with a toddler rather then a teenager.

Izuku glared up at the older Villain with a burning hatred, even with the dizzy state he was in. All for One huffed in amusement and patted Izuku cheek sardonically.

“Well, I suggested you take a step back” Chisaki instructed. Izuku watched helplessly as Chisaki hands clearly came into view, his reformed fingers reaching towards his bare chest. Izuku eyes stayed glued to the hand moving across his swimming vision making it look disoriented and alien, his breath hitching, his body’s only reaction when he felt the villains un-gloved hand make contact his skin.

'I’ve got to survive, by any means necessary’ was Izuku last thought followed by the pain of his whole body being torn apart.

Notes:

So I'm not going to lie, 2022 wasn't a good year for me. I came into this year with so much expectations and got kind of the complete opposite. Which is the reason I'm updating this fic on the last day of the year, I honestly stopped writing for a bit because of just how busy I was and because of a lot of other personal issues. I just wanted to tell all the readers thanks for believing in this fic for as long as you have, and I hope you have a happy new years and may 2023 be kinder then 2022.

As always comments and kudo's always makes' me smile.
