Chapter 5: Jurin's shop

Summary:

Casey heads out of her house early in the morning to put down a store order at Jurin's shop.

Notes:

No editing on this part, I just wrote it out as is, so it is kinda bad, but nothing too bad
just have been drafting instead of writing, this part came from just two drafting bullets, whuf.
sorry it's kind of short, haven't found a flowy way into the next part

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Ever since I laid down on the couch, the drowsiness I felt kept getting worse, but I could not just fall back asleep. The morning hazed light comes reflecting into the living room, I close the book in my hands, and place it onto the decent pile of books I have finished throughout the hours. I’m surprised at myself for reading several novels in such a short amount of time. I stretch my tensed up back, a yawn escaping my mouth as I do so, and my ears ring. ‘Good stretch’ I tell myself before standing up. My brain is so exhausted, but since I’m up so early, I might as well make an order with Jurin to pick up on my way to meet Tommy. I shuffle into my shared bedroom, pick up a pre-prepared outfit from a drawer, and go to change in the bathroom so I don’t disturb Anila. Now I don’t really plan these outfits, my mom does, though I do give her an idea of the styles I like currently, and she makes outfits with my clean clothes in her freetime, though she would probably do that for everyone in the whole city if she could. She did have a degree in fashion design, so I guess it’s her putting it into use, which I do say she is doing a good job. A casual grunge look today, nice.

Before I left the house, I put on a bit of makeup on, mainly to cover the slowly developing eye bags I have, and left a post-it note on the front door, explaining to my family that I woke up early and went to the store before going to school. With my stomach growling, I went to Jurin’s store. It doesn’t really have an official name, but I guess “Jurin’s Store” or “Jurin’s Place” are the names it is known by. When I enter I get blasted with the smell of several different spices and garlic, all of which are grown in Jurin’s personal greenhouse at the edge of the bubble south of here, his wife tends to it, and his brother and daughter process whatever is needed to be grounded up or anything like that. I immediately head to the back of the store, my stomach leading me to my one true love, Jurin’s dosas.

From behind the front counter, Jurin calls out, “Ahhh, the doshas missed you! Your mother made you come in this early, yes?” I let out a polite laugh. It’s not that I don’t like Jurin, love him like an uncle, just I’mReallyFuckingHungryRightNow .

“Not this time, came in to make an order to pick up later, and also some of your dosas right now.” I adjusted the strap of my backpack, fixing the twist. “Please.” I added.

Jurin laughs, walks from the counter towards me, and goes behind the heated display case, which enclosed my beloved,

“Lucky for you, I made too many for my own breakfast, so you can have them all. You know I make them by order or after 3 PM.”

I watched with great intent as he picked up the warm pancakes, and put them into a bag that seemed to come out of nowhere.

“Yes, yes, give me the dosas-” I blurted out quickly, and within the next thirty seconds Jurin stretched his arm to the side of the display, and I snatched them the moment my fingers could wrap around the bag, and proceeded to shove one into my mouth.

For the next few minutes I ate the dosa eagerly, and while it’s usually better to eat it as a masala, plain dosas are enough for me right now. When I was done with the first dosa, I sigh in relief, no longer having pain in my stomach from not eating. I hold onto the bag that has one other dosa inside, and I finally can do the actual reason why I’m here, order a pickup. Rice and chickpeas were the only stuff I knew we needed, but I added some garlic, and Jurin sold me on a new spice rub that his family tried and really enjoyed. I would’ve texted my family to ask if they wanted anything, but my phone fell down the stairs while I was at school. Luckily I’m friendly with a guy whose dad fixes them, and they told me that he would tell me when it’s ready. After placing the order down, I had to run to make it to school on time. I called out a ‘bye’ to the slowly closing door behind me, racing my way to school.
