Chapter Text
It's my last Friday night in Cleveland.
Marshall is sitting on the edge of my bed, taking up way more than his fair share of space, and eating the rest of my dinner. He pulls the spoon out of his mouth. "Did you turn your assignment in?"
"I slid it under her door, but I'll make sure to e-mail it, too."
"Are you going to read it to me?"
"Pfft." I dig my guitar out of its bag, hauling it across my lap. "I have different priorities," I say. "Make room."
He grins, leaning back against my headboard, and gesturing to the space between his legs. I climb onto the edge of the bed, strumming out a few chords to keep it in tune. I keep the paper in front of me, trying to find my place. It was an emotional rollercoaster, and I've been working on it for two days. I was going to sing it to him until I ran out of air.
Marshall rubs the spot above his ring, awaiting his special performance.
"Are you ready?" I ask.
He shifts his weight and sits up a little straighter. "Ready."
"Wake up, still drunk from last night. The first dates are always uncomfortable. Stayed up, I couldn't sleep last night. I'll admit, I'm a little dysfunctional. Are you okay with the fact that I'm a little off track, to be honest. I've been through relationships. I've never been in love, but I want this.
Ever since you walked away, I can't wait to taste your breath. Sunset is on my black parade, and I can't wait to see what's next. When the clothes are off, and the phones are off, and the lights are on, 'cause you turn me on.
Pick up, pick up your phone. I know I just gave you my number, but I want to know: What's up with us because I gotta feeling. Tell me if it's mutual. Are you with anybody right now or could you step out and talk to me? I'd text you, but it's better to call because tomorrow, there'd be less that I have to delete.
Ever since you walked away, I can't wait to taste your breath. Sunset is on my black parade, and I can't wait to see what's next. When the clothes are off, and the phones are off, and the lights are on, 'cause you turn me on.
Cover my mouth with yours until there's nothing to say. Even the silence that I have with you is okay. Let's do it like it's the first time, like it's the first time.
Ever since you walked away, I can't wait to taste your breath. Sunset is on my black parade, and I can't wait to see what's next. When the clothes are off, and the phones are off, and the lights are on, 'cause you turn me on.
Ever since you walked away."
