Chapter Text
‘Kang Seulgi!’
an old man sharing his looks called out his name while opening his office door.
‘Dad?’
Seulgi stands up immediately, glancing his staff who’s mumbbling a slow ‘sorry sir’ for their lack of power from stopping his Father’s sudden ambuse.
‘you should’ve called me before’
he grabbed his hand
‘Nah kid, it’s a quick visit tho’ but he decided to sit.
‘how’s life?’ he asked after a glimpse of side hug and kisses
‘pretty good’
‘i heard that you just come back from Germany?’ his father asked
‘yeah last week, i applied a good two month course and i wonder how perfect it could be if i started to, you know dad, adopted their work into our management’ He explained.
Maybe it was just a gut feeling, but his father was usually the most busy person on earth. so, having him visited unnoticed like this was presumably odd.
‘you just married but left your wife for two freaking months?’
question answered
‘i married her for business, didn’t i?’
‘Seulgi my son, you know this is not how you supposed to handle the business, right?’ the son’s now rolling his eyes, still surprised by his father decision to make the lame arrange marriage his priority.
‘Dad, we are fine’
or maybe, they are not. Because he bite back his thoughts of last night event when he saw Joohyun cries for the first time and his only response was to running away from her. what a disappointment.
‘you should pay more attention to her.’
oops, did his father just read his mind?
‘Listen kid, i understand you barely know each other, but, getting married to a stranger is just like, you know kid, meeting your clients. they’re all strangers aren’t they?’
Seulgi frowned his brow trying to digest everything this old man try to imply, and his father just casually patted his shoulders.
‘i mean, it happened kid, everybody’s freaking stranger before, but she’s your wife now. and in my case, my stranger became your mother too, ‘
‘maybe you should take some notes from your mom and dad love story’ Seulgi shook his head
‘oh God, i’m done listening’ he scoffed, tossing away his father hand from his shoulder.
Despite his cold bossy persona his father always pulled out when they’re working, his father is still his father who love to teases his kids at any chance he got.
Seulgi slumped his back to the sofa, tired of the old man jest.
his father laugh playfully after throw a soft smack at his shoulder
‘i really don’t understand, Seul’
‘Joohyun is a lovely kid, she’s smart, fun, pretty, sex- ugh!’
he punch his father gut.
‘yah! how came you hate it when they throw you a literal angel?!’ his father bit back.
‘just, please, stop, it, dad.’ hands covering his poor ears
‘is she that bad?’
he let out a sigh for the nth time.
‘gosh, i thought the moment i agreed to marry her, you guys would just let me be and stop bugging me with life’
‘oh you wish kid’ he’s laughing at his naive son
‘just tell me why are you suddenly here at the first place?!’
they go silent, his father sit straight.
‘you know kid, i’m getting older day by day, and the only thing i wish i could have right now is, a grandchild.’ and his tone changed.
‘what?!’
‘you heard me’ he said firmly.
‘seriously dad??’
‘why, won’t you have some?’
‘dad, we don’t even talk to each other like properly, and you want us to what? produce a baby?’
‘just go talk to her then, what’s so hard about that?’
‘gah’ Seulgi let out a long breath of frustation. His family is sucks he think.
‘look kid, i was just joking bout that,’ Seulgi glared at him
‘but not with the talk part’ his father looking back at his eyes, giving him a warm smile.
‘when i married to your mother, i barely know her too, we got similar situation with you kid, but we talked it out , and later, we kissed, then your brother coming into our world and i couldn’t asked for more happiness but then you come too and it just make me the happiest man alive.’ he’s recalling a good memory. can’t help but smiling ear to ear.
‘just do it kid, even the simplest talk will help you bound closer with her.’
‘i don’t know’ the tensions is getting serious
‘what is it?’
‘Joohyun seems different’
his father is silent, but Seulgi can see he questioned ‘how?’
‘she’s quite, dad. not bubbly like mom, and me too dad, i’m different from you, i was awkward as hell and these job took most of my time, so what kind of romance d’you expected us to be?’
his father scoffed
‘okay then, quick question’
‘what?’ Seulgi really is annoyed
‘for this past sixth month, what is the first thing you get on your mind when you are going home?’ there's smugly smile on his face
‘sleeping?’ definitely not kind of answers his father wanted to hear.
‘yah! don’t you thinking about Joohyun at all?’
Seulgi sigh.
‘dad, i be thinking ‘bout this company more than i breathe, and she must be asleep the moment i arrived at home. why would i think about her?’
He got another smack at his thigh. and now his father laughing harder.
‘she is sleeping when you home?’
‘most of the time, it’s midnight dad’
‘my poor kid, i guess i just lucky they sent me your mother’ hands massaging his son thighs he just smacked.
‘what does that means?’
His father laugh again
‘it means, i should sent your secretary an invoice from this session with extra charges if you want to extended the duration mr. Kang Seulgi.’ his father stands up after mocking him.
‘oh c’mon dad, are you just going to left me hanging like this?’
The old man hand was already on the door knob, but before make his way to his next stops, he turn around to face his whinny kid.
‘well, i’ll tell your brother to hire some men to back you up at work. you deserve going home early, married man’
seulgi mouthed ‘thank you’ sarcastically
‘and for the rest of your husband-wife problems, i believe God will show you His way, kiddos’
then he winked, a very weird old man wink to made his leaving scene looked more dramatic like every main character in a movie.
damn it.
Seulgi sighed, raking his hand through his hair harshly.
He is parking his car at 7pm!
the earliest office hours he ever had. thanks to Father Kang who shutting down the entire building system so he couldn’t stay any longer at the office as much as he initially wanted.
that crazy powerful old man.
‘i’m home’ he spelled it while taking off his shoes lazily. no response but he already used to it. she usually sleeping because the clock is already passed the midnight, but tonight, didn’t she the one who invited him to a dinner?
where is she?
psst, he finally thinking about Joohyun, father Kang!!!
‘wow, you’re home?’ said the missing person while coming out and leaning at the wall, her tone was intrigued something in him.
does she always sounds like that?
‘yup’ he gets up, placed his shoe over the drawer, and start unbuttoned his shirt.
‘aren’t we supposed to having dinner noona?’
He was stroking his mess hair while Joohyun smiled at him.
and damn, his father is right. he didn’t dare to admit it until now, but, she definitely is an angel. because, how could a lady in a plain white tee and ponytail looking so adorably gorgeous without even trying?
‘yes, but i honestly don’t think you could come home this early’ she said softly.
‘i said i’ll make time, didn’t i?’
‘thank you’ another attempt to killed seulgi with her sweet smile.
but he don’t even flinch. he really build a strong armor on his outside, walking past her coldly while mentally screaming.
‘is miso soup okay?’
‘sure’ he nods, making his way to the bathroom without any objections.
20 minutes later, Seulgi is weirdly seated at the dining table. He couldn’t stop thinking about his father word as in ‘even simplest talk matters’. dear god please help this clueless little human with zero experience in talking other than business to his wife.
‘wait, where’s your bowl, noona?’ asked seulgi when the older woman pouring some soup into his bowl.
‘my dinner is usually at 6’ she simply answered
‘oh’ what else then?
whatever, he just couldn’t resist the urge to dig the food in front of him anymore. so he eats.
‘this is good, isn’t it seaweed?’ his mouth busy munching
‘yes’ only seulgi could see the redness on her cheeks
‘daebak, noona’
she is blushing, and for a brief second Seulgi felt like he just winning a billion dollars contract because that’s just how proud he was with himself after making his wife smile.
another spoonful soups later. And she unconsciously wiped away the food mess around his mouth, hand landed smoothly on his cheeks.
‘eat slowly Seul’
for a split seconds, Seulgi forget how to eat.
both staring awkwardly.
‘sorry, this is just incredibly good’ he says after composing himself.
he can sense Joohyun flinched too, because this is the most domestic moment they ever had. and they both just fluttered.
‘so, about last night,’ he hesitantly tried to start the conversation after washing up his bowl. Joining Joohyun who's still sitting at the dining table.
‘i’m sorry i left you like that’
Joohyun beautifully listened.
‘that was the first time i got a woman crying at my bed, so it’s kind of freaks me out, i don’t know what to do, and i thought giving you space to let out your sadness would be the best help i could offer.’
‘that’s fine, Seul’
‘are you feeling better now?’ he asked
the food was long gone and the mood is set for a good talk. so he decided to make a move, he reached her right hand and gently caressing it. took a lot of courage but it had to be done, his father is right, she is his wife now and he should provide her the attention she deserves.
‘much better,’ she grabs his hand back, sending him the warmest smile.
‘great, i’ll try my best to be more husband-friendly to you noona, i’m sorry if i hardly care this wasted 6 months,'
He take a deep breath before continue his sentences
'can we start over now?’
Joohyun chuckles. she will never know what spell that gotten into his head to make her oblivious-hard working husband turned into a cute bear man who’s loving and tender. whatever it is, she likes it anyway.
‘i’d love to’ she says happily
He can't hide his smile
‘from zero?’
Joohyun couldn't agree more ‘yes, Seul-’
He awkwardly hugged her. She was confused as hell but after a long hesitation, she hug him back. Patting his board shoulder and smelling his perfume. This is the first time for both of them embracing each other warmth.
It wasn't that bad, better late than never, and once again his father was right. It's cost nothing to talk, nothing but courage and willingness.
One step at a time seulgi, it's too soon to call it love.
He hugged her tighter.
