Chapter Text

“Hey!” Yashiro Kaoru calls. She’d been on a walk when she accidentally came across the pink haired girl she was currently following. Said pink haired girl was no so subtly sneaking into the forest, and with blue and red lights not far away, it wasn’t hard to put the pieces together.

To Kaoru’s credit, she had given the girl the benefit of the doubt, following her until it was clear she was sneaking behind the tree lines.

The girl currently turning to her, blinking bright red eyes.

“Hey,” she says, not seeming to care that she’s been caught.

“You shouldn’t be here,” Kaoru says. “The police seem to have it blocked off.”

“Then why are you here?” The other girl asks.

“I… saw you trying to sneak in,” Kaoru says, crossing her arms. “Now come on, we might be in danger.”

“I know,” the other girl says. “But I told my friends I’d find out what happened to the researchers.”

“The researchers?”

“Our club is working with them,” the other girl says, which explains

“Who are you, anyways?” Kaoru asks.

The other girl doesn’t get a chance to respond, unfortunately. That’s when the monsters appear.

“Nerdlihc Linto?” The smaller one asks. The larger ones just let out strange noises. Kaoru freezes.

“What the heck are these?” The other girl asks, and the smaller monster, clearly the leader, says something else indecipherable.

The larger monsters lumber closer.

“I don’t think it currently matters,” Kaoru says, stepping closer to the other girl until they’re close enough to touch.

And then she grabs her hand and yells “RUN!”

Godai Yukie pauses with the girl who’d followed her, both of them panting. The other girl’s indigo hair has started slipping from her low ponytail in the rush. When Yukie had snuck in, she’d expected maybe a really bad accident, not… not monsters!

“Were those… what happened to the researchers?” Yukie asks. Are they really…

“I couldn’t say,” replies the other. “What are those things?”

The monsters catch up with them. Yukie is fairly sure she’s not the only one who can’t keep running, and…

“We can’t lead these things into the city,” the other girl says. Yukie nods. “Let’s split up, away from town. On my mark. Get set… go!”

Kaoru runs as fast as she can. Which she knows will only get her so far, but there’s caves, which will at least get all of the larger monsters off her back. If she can find any other entrances.

Which she does manage, at least, but the monster just keeps punching at the entrance.

Kaoru really hopes she makes it out of this alive.

Further away, Yukie is not having better luck. Backed in a corner now, the smaller monster appears on one of the bigger’s shoulder.

“Gnignahc htrow eb thgim uoy,” it says in the same strange language as before. “Reh tsalb, Bagijiju.”

The large ones groan again, raises their palms, and Yukie can’t help it, she flinches, closing her eyes…

But nothing happens. Slowly, she looks again. A bubble of golden light surrounds her, protecting her from the blasts.

“Tahw?” The small monster says.

Yukie feels a sudden power flowing through her, though she couldn’t begin to describe it. She has a feeling that, maybe, she could even stop these things.

A… is that a belt? …appears in front of her, and she grabs it. Puts it around her waist.

“Ti nmad!” The larger monster yells, but suddenly Yukie can understand it. “Eno rehtona ton!”

…another one?

Around her waist, the belt starts making a sound. And with a flash… Yukie is not quite Yukie. Her hair feels tied up yet heavy, a soft salmon at the edge of her vision.

Her shorts are replaced with a white skirt, her flannel shirt by a pink dress lined in red.

As she flexes her fists, golden fingerless gloves flex with her. Matching the golden shoes that make her feel light as a feather and yet full of weight.

…She doesn’t have too much time to process that, however, because the larger monsters are now attacking her with their very large fists!

Gouram wakes up to the sound of loud booms and the odd groans of a Bagijiju. Oh no. Not yet. He has to go there, has to stop…

Gouram…

No. Impossible. Gouram looks around.

“Riko?”

Gouram… find the Precure.

Flying up, Gouram looks around.

In the distance, dust. And what looks like a flash. Could it be? And so soon?

Someone with the power to become Precure?

The light comes into the air, and Kaoru pauses. That’s where the girl went! She can’t just leave her! She has to—

Has to do something. Isn’t that what she always admired in…

She has to run closer.

“Gouuuuuuu!”

…she runs head first into a rather large bug.

“Oh no!” It says. “I’m sorry. You need to run!”

Kaoru stares, for longer than is polite. Then she quickly picks up the bug.

“Whatever’s going on, you know it,” she says. “I have to make sure that girl is okay!”

“A Linto girl-Gou?”

“…what?”

“Nothing,” the little bug says. “Let’s Gou!”

It doesn’t need to say more.

Yukie tries to fight. Emphasis on try. Her pink and white form is weak, more for show than power.

(For power, you need one of the charms.)

“PRECURE!”

She turns, and finds the girl from before holding a large beetle, who tosses her something.

“Put this in your belt!” The bug says. “It’ll help!”

Yukie catches the charm. It looks like a star, and as she catches it, it glows, changing from a deep pink to an even deeper red. She grins, flashing a thumbs up at the girl and the talking bug.

It slides perfectly onto her belt, and she suddenly feels power fill her.

Okay.

She can do this.

“Kuuga…”

Yukie blinks.

“Oh, I like that,” she says. “Warrior of hope, Cure Kuuga!”

With a bright pose, she jumps into the fight.

Kaoru can’t believe it. This is all a bit much. A whole worldview turned upside down much.

Kuuga is a monster in and of herself, cutting apart the hulking monsters, and the others flee.

…thankfully, in the opposite direction of Kaoru.

“What is that?” Kaoru asks.

“That,” the bug replies. “Is Precure. A protected of humanity and life. Oh— hold this-Gou.”

It drops a small plastic purse in Kaoru’s hands. Kaoru pauses.

“What is this?” She asks.

“The Purse of Heartz,” the bug says. “Without it, the people Precure destroys won’t ever come back. Hold it up, quickly!”

Kaoru does so, and watches glowing residue from the monsters return to the purse. As they all fade, Kuuga flips her way to land next to Kaoru and the bug.

“So,” she says, transforming back to her normal girl form. “What next?”

…okay. Seriously. How is this girl the savior of humanity?

Notes:

And thus concludes “episode one” of Okay!Precure

I have a lot of plans but it relies on a very in-progress rewatch, so wish me the best of luck.
