Chapter Text
In just a few minutes, you went from birdwatching to being sandwiched between two overly buff boys. Kujo sat to your left, while Kakyoin was to your right.
“So, uh, what’s the deal with airline food?”
“What the fuck are you talking about.”
“Well, y’know, we’re getting on an airplane, and the food on airlines sucks because not only do they hate people, but high altitudes mess with your senses, making pretty much anything taste pretty bland.”
“Who gives a shit.”
“Just trying to make conversation, man.”
“Don’t.”
“Noted.”
You sat in silence for the rest of the car ride.
The airport was an absolute nightmare, seeing as literally everyone and their brother decided to show up today specifically, but soon enough, your whole group was seated comfortably on the airplane. You definitely weren’t happy about sitting by yourself, given the threat of a Stand attack, but there was no way in hell you were sitting next to Kujo, and you’d feel bad making him sit next to a stranger. Luckily, you scared off pretty much anyone who looked in your direction, so you had two seats all to yourself.
You managed to completely space out for a little while working on some zoology notes, and failed to notice anything wrong until Kujo almost lost his tongue to a crazy stag beetle.
“Oh shit! Did you guys know that female stag beetles have stronger jaws despite only having vestigial mandibles?”
“Stop spewing random shit and do something.” Ah, eloquent as always.
“Uhhh, two things: fun facts are fun, and Rush can’t do jack shit in this situation!”
“Why the hell not? Don’t birds eat bugs, dumbass?”
“What do you think will happen if I bust out the electric bird on a fucking airplane, genius?” You shot back.
“She’s right. Unfortunately, both Rush and Magician’s Red are at a disadvantage here, especially with so many innocent people around,” Avdol said, disappointed he didn’t get to show off his Stand.
“Hmm. In an enclosed space like this, perhaps my Hierophant Green will get a chance to shine.”
You and the others huddled back in your seats as Kakyoin sent wave after wave of Emerald Splashes at the stupid bug, but the damn thing dodged every single one.
Just as it seemed that Kakyoin was cornered, Hierophant Green’s tentacles shot out from the surrounding seats, impaling the Tower of Gray and ripping it to shreds.
Sadly, that seemed to be just the start of your problems, as the plane suddenly began to pitch forward.
“What was that?”
Your question went ignored as Mr. Joestar made his way to the cockpit, disregarding the flight attendants. Kujo just shoved them out of the way, because he’s an asshole.
They bumped into Kakyoin, who caught them both and started apologizing for Kujo’s behavior. Props to him for not being a dick, but y’all were kind of busy at the moment.
“Hey, uh, I don’t mean to break up the moment, but we’re kind of in the middle of an operation here,” You muttered, squeezing by and into the cockpit, where you were greeted with the very worrying image of Mr. Joestar at the controls.
“Can you even fly a plane, Mr. Joestar?” You asked.
“What? Of course I can! Although, I have been in two plane crashes already… I mean, how many people do you know who have been in three plane crashes and lived to tell about it?” He laughed. He fucking laughed.
“Jesus Harold Christ, we’re all gonna die.”
Miraculously, the old man was able to set the thing down off the coast of Hong Kong, so you all made it to shore relatively unscathed.
And now you were just all hanging out in the middle of the street, waiting for Mr. Joestar to finish… whatever the hell he was doing.
The boys eventually got distracted and wandered over to a food vendor, so you followed. The dude was selling hot cola, for heaven’s sake, and you’d be lying if you said you weren’t a little curious as to what it was like.
But alas, Mr. Joestar decided to show up at just the wrong time, steering you all away from the promise of rice porridge. He also apparently took the idea of hot cola as some sort of personal offense, which was at least a little funny. He might as well have been wearing an American flag, what with how oblivious to other cultures he was.
He insisted that you all had to go to this specific restaurant for some reason, so you just kind of gave up and allowed yourself to be herded wherever.
Yeah, there wasn’t exactly a ton of table real estate in this place. So, for a second time that day, you were sandwiched between Kujo and Kakyoin.
Staring down at the menu, you soon realized, ‘I can’t read this shit.’ So naturally, you just gave up and waited for someone else to order. You’ll just take some from their plate, no big deal.
“Excuse me, I’m sorry to interrupt, but I’m having trouble understanding the kanji on this menu. Can one of you help me?” A polite and very French voice asked.
Your first thought upon looking upon the stranger was ‘where are his goddamn eyebrows?”
“You’re annoying. Fuck off.” Thank you Jotaro, very cool.
“Where are your eyebrows?”
“Children! Don’t be rude! Here, I’ll help you. I’ve been to Hong Kong many times, so I shouldn’t have trouble with the menu.”
And with that, you were joined by the Frenchman with the dumb tall hair.
It turns out Mr. Joestar could not, in fact, read the menu. He just pointed to a bunch of random stuff. Great.
The food came out, and it became abundantly obvious that Mr. Joestar literally had no idea what he was doing.
“Well, it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, but go on, guys! Dig in!” He laughed.
After evaluating the spread of frogs and oysters, your hand darted out and snatched up a bowl of rice porridge, which you began to eat cautiously.
The other members of your little group stared at the odd dishes on the table. After a few moments, Mr. Joestar shrugged and began to sample them all. The others joined in not long after that, but you stubbornly stuck to your bowl of rice porridge and declined everything Mr. Joestar tried to offer you.
“This restaurant is the real deal,” The french guy spoke up. “Look at how carefully this food is prepared. They even took the time to cut the carrots into little stars. In fact, I know someone who happens to have a star right on his neck.”
Silence. A foil burst through the table, sending rice porridge everywhere. Well shit. The french guy swung his sword around, Avdol summoned his Stand, Magician’s Red, and the french guy made a fire clock?
“My name is Jean-Pierre Polnareff, and my Stand is Silver Chariot! Mohammed Avdol, it seems you want to die first!”
They went back and forth for another minute or so before deciding to take their battle outside, to the Tiger Balm Gardens, which were way too pretty to blow up.
You took a seat on a crab statue to watch the incoming battle.
“I will make two predictions here. First, Avdol, you will be destroyed by your own power,” Polnareff started.
Kujo stepped forward, ready to beat the living shit out of him, stopping only when Avdol told him to.
“In this open space, I will be able to control my Stand as freely as I please.” Magician’s Red made its appearance, flaming like a tiki torch.
Kujo, successfully excluded, chose to stand by your crab statue in disdain.
“Come on!” Polnareff shouted as Silver Chariot stabbed and slashed with incredible speed. But he couldn’t seem to land a single hit as the two Stands danced around each other.
Polnareff continued to taunt Avdol as his Stand tried to turn Magician’s Red into chicken on a stick.
Magician’s Red finally retaliated, spitting fireballs at the foil-wielding Stand. Silver Chariot was sadly able to repel his attack, using the fire to carve an eagle statue into a likeness of Avdol’s avian Stand.
“Hey! You’re destroying the garden!” You were pissed about that! This is a national landmark!
“That bastard. He’s mocking us,” Kujo scowled.
“Hey! Get behind something, he’s going to use it.” Mr. Joestar called to you, but you didn’t move. You liked this crab, and you highly doubted that Avdol would hit you. Instead, you watched in fascination as Magician’s Red spewed flames in the shape of a large ankh.
“Crossfire Hurricane!”
Unfortunately, Polnareff’s Stand cut through the fire, sending it right back at its caster. Magician’s Red screeched as it was engulfed in flame. You sat forward on the crab, summoning Rush. He could summon a storm to douse the fire, but at the same time, you would be putting Avdol at a major disadvantage. You caught Kujo side-eyeing your electric bird friend, as if saying “put that thing back where it came from or so help me…’ In response, Rush wrapped you in his soft, fluffy wings, providing a little bit of comfort as you watched your companion burn.
Avdol sent Magician’s Red at Polnareff once more, only for the silver Stand to draw its foil across the avian’s chest. Magician’s Red exploded in a flurry of flame, burning Silver Chariot to a fucking crisp. Nice.
The Magician’s Red Polnareff had severed collapsed into rubble, revealing it had been the statue he carved before.
Avdol set off another Crossfire Hurricane in Polnareff’s face, sending the Frenchman flying back. He was probably dead.
Your companions began to leave, so you slid off your crab, dismissed Rush, and hurried to join them, but were stopped by the sight of Polnareff’s Stand exploding.
“Uh, guys? I don’t think that’s supposed to happen,” You pointed to the scene, drawing the attention of the squad.
Suddenly, Polnareff’s body flew way up in the air. He began to clap? What was holding him up? It couldn’t be…
You squinted. It was! A different-looking Silver Chariot was holding him in the air.
“Yes, this is it. My Stand with its armor off: Silver Chariot!” Polnareff declared.
“Looks naked and weird,” You remarked.
“You wound me, ma chérie.”
“Don’t call me that.”
“With its armor off, it is much faster,” Polnareff bragged. You watched in fascination as his Stand seemed to split into seven.
“Impossible! There should only be one Stand for each user!”
“It seems you are astonished. These are shadow clones.”
Avdol sent flames after them, but couldn’t find the real Silver Chariot.
‘He’ll waste all of his energy.’ You thought desperately. He sent a Crossfire Hurricane at one of the clones.
“Non, non, non, non, non, non, non! That is also a shadow clone!”
You felt something nudge your side. You looked down to find Rush staring up at you urgently. Laying a hand on his head, your instincts told you to close your eyes. As your vision darkened, you were now seeing through Rush’s eyes. Instead of seven identical Silver Chariots, you saw only one. Snapping your eyes back open, you now saw the shadow clones once more. You watched helplessly as Silver Chariot carved ankhs into Avdol’s face. Even if you could understand your new ability, Avdol had made it clear that he didn’t want help.
Speaking of, your Egyptian acquaintance was currently explaining the nature of his Crossfire Hurricane.
“It is a flame in the shape of an ankh, but it need not be singular. I can break it up and make it fly in pieces.”
He sent multiple flaming ankhs in Polnareff’s direction, his clones rising to meet them, but a single ankh burst up from the ground, setting the Frenchman ablaze. At Avdol’s feet was a tunnel he had dug with his flames. He must have sent one of the ankhs through the tunnel.
Avdol dropped a dagger in the burning man’s face. “Burning is a rather painful way to die. Use that dagger to kill yourself.”
You were stunned at his brutality. You didn’t really know Avdol very well, but he appeared to be a rather civil person, so this was a shock.
“Come along, (y/n). You can’t sit on that crab forever.”
“You’re just going to let him die?” You protested.
“He tried to kill us.”
“At least he was polite about it! Please, this is… it’s too much…” You felt a slight sense of panic well up in your chest. You were terrified that they were going to leave the poor man to burn.
“I’ll be a good sport and burn to death,” Polnareff murmured. “It would be disrespectful to kill myself.”
Avdol turned swiftly and snapped his fingers, freeing the man. He examined the singed Frenchman, determining that the cause of his hostility was actually a flesh bud. “Jojo!” He called.
“Yeah.”
“Ugh, those tentacles are so disgusting! Hurry up and pull it out!” Mr. Joestar cried, squirming at the sight.
“Speak for yourself. I find it fascinating!” You were hovering over the operation, watching curiously.
“Shut up, both of you.”
“Good! Now that the flesh bud is gone, we can be buddies! Ta-da!”
“Mr. Joestar, I’m very disappointed,” You began, before being rudely interrupted.
“Kakyoin, don’t guys like him that make stupid puns seriously piss you off?”
“Doesn’t everyone piss you off?” You asked innocently.
“Shut up, bitch.”
“You just proved my point, man.”
The squad continued on to the docks, meeting up with Polnareff by coincidence.
“I never did thank you for freeing me,” He started.
“For that, you’d need to thank Jojo,” Avdol gestured to Kujo.
“Don’t need it.”
“It seems that there’s no one to accept your kind thanks.”
“Pardon me, Mr. Joestar, but I have a bizarre question for you.”
“A bizarre question, you say? What is it?”
“Your left hand wouldn’t happen to be a right hand, would it? Even while eating, you didn’t take off your gloves.”
“That is a rather bizarre question. What exactly do you mean?”
He explained that he was looking for the man who killed his younger sister. The murderer also happened to have two right hands, which was pretty unusual.
Mr. Joestar pulled off his glove, revealing a metal prosthetic. “I lost it in a battle fifty years ago.”
“I apologize for my rudeness. Please forgive me,” Ponareff bowed his head before explaining how he met DIO in Egypt. “I’ve decided to go to Egypt with all of you! If I go after DIO, I’ll be able to find the man who took my sister’s life!”
“What should we do?” Kakyoin asked the question that everyone was thinking.
“I think he’s alright,” You piped up, excited for another potential member of your meager friend pool.
“I have no objections,” Avdol seemed to like Polnareff, too.
“I’m sure you’d follow us even if we said no,” Mr. Joestar pointed out.
“It’s an honor.”
“Yare yare-”
“Excuse me!” Whomst the fuck dare interrupt the ‘good grief’? Two women had snuck up on your group without anyone noticing. “Would you mind taking our picture?” They asked Kujo.
Oh no.
“Thank you!” He didn’t respond? “We want our backs to the ocean!” How annoying.
“You’re annoying me! Ask someone else!” Saw that coming a mile away…
“Now, now, now, now…. I’ll take your picture for you! Come, come!”
“Dude, girls my age are kind of annoying. That’s why I have no friends,” You observed the scene.
“Aren’t we friends?” Kakyoin asked, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
“Well, yeah, I meant before this,” You gestured vaguely around you. “Nobody else could see Rush, so I was labeled the weird kid.”
“Hey kids!” Mr. Joestar called. “The boat we chartered from the Speedwagon Foundation is here!”
“Cool! I like boats, it’s easier to see fish from a boat than from shore,” You pumped your fist. You liked fish.
