Chapter Text

“You’re… you’re kidding right? This is just a cruel joke to get our reaction, well here it is” Kel says with a face of utter defeat, his eyes filled with nothing but guilt and sorrow. He and the other five people there had just received the horrible news that their old friend did not survive. The doctor who brought them the news shook his head “I’m sorry, the injury was much too severe to be treated by the staff we had on hand. And with the injury he suffered only a few months prior it was just too much damage in one area.” a nurse walked up to Sunny's mother and patted her back in a comforting manner as the woman wailed her heart out.

This was her last child, and he was gone. She fell to her knees and cried until her voice failed her, cutting out as she began to cough. The nurse beside her motioned for someone to bring water and a few seconds later Mrs. Suzuki is offered a small glass of the drink. She refuses at first, but after the nurse offers it again she takes it and drinks slowly, hugging herself and shutting her eyes. ‘This is all just some horrible nightmare’ she tries to convince herself.

Basil, who was fiddling with his hands stares at the ground, tears falling from his eyes as he sobs. After a few moments he looks up to see a doctor offering him something “He had this on him, would you happen to be Basil?” It takes the blond haired boy a moment to process the words then nods, taking the item from the doctor carefully. “I am truly sorry for your loss. might I be allowed to ask how this happened? It was a blunt force injury from what we can tell, but then leads the question of the other dents to the skull.” the man asks, Basil stares at a pink haired girl nearby him. She was quiet, not saying a word, her face was almost as if she wasn’t there at all. “It… was a nail bat.” he states after drying his tears. The doctor's eyes widened, “What do you mean by that?”

“Aubrey killed him.” Basil says coldly, looking back at the doctor. Hero notices the conversation and adds onto what basil said “accidentally, she would never do something like that on purpose!” He defends the teen girl beside him. “What Sunny did was accidental too, where were you defending him then?” Basil approaches Hero, and the doctor decides he should step away from the argument and attend wherever else he is needed. “That was different Basil, he covered up the murder and lied about it for years.” “still doesn’t excuse the fact Aubrey used a weapon, last I checked stairs and a violin aren’t weapons.”

He knows anything could be a weapon if you’re creative enough, he knows that very well. But at this point he just wants to yell, to scream. To be angry at the people who rejected him and left him all alone, then took away the only friend he had left. Hero was about to make a very well calculated and clever argument ending response, when he was nearly knocked over by Kel grabbing onto him and holding him tight. “Please don’t fight, Please. I can’t handle it right now.” the younger boy pleads, trying with all his might to not start crying. Basil was going to shout at Kel too, but stopped himself. Tears falling from his face once again as all kinds of emotions fill his mind, overflowing and leaving him completely exhausted.

Aubrey wakes herself from her state of silence, the realisation that Sunny is dead and it's all her fault suffocates her. She can hardly breathe as if the oxygen in the room was as thick as stone. The pink haired girl starts to shake and cry while she struggles to get any air in her lungs. Her vision starts to fail her and she feels faint, she can hardly recognize the nurse that had approached her asking nonsense questions she can’t hear over the ringing in her ears.

From only a few metres away Mrs. Suzuki overheard Basil's words, and began to piece things together. Aubrey did this? Aubrey took away her sweet little boy? She knew the girl was trouble but she never thought it was this bad. The brown haired woman stands up with fury filling her heart. Aubrey murdered her son. That good-for-nothing took the only family she had left. Hatred radiated from her while she walked up to the hyperventilating girl. She placed her hands on Aubrey's shoulders and got her attention.

The aforementioned pink haired girl catches her breath and looks up at the woman in front of her. Mrs. Suzuki had a glare that could strike fear in even the bravest man's soul.

“You… did this?” she asks, her tone dark and threatening. The poor woman's voice was weak and broken from crying.

Aubrey doesn't move, she doesn't even breathe. She can’t, because who knows what will happen if a single nerve in her body twitches. This woman just lost her last child and is right in front of Aubrey with a terrifying aura.

Eventually, Aubrey gathers her courage. She owes the grieving mother at least an apology, an explanation, or something else of the sort. “I’m… so sorry-” She starts, hesitating, fear lacing each of her words. “It wasn’t… I didn’t mean to hurt him” “is that all you have to say for yourself? You killed my son and that is all you can say?” Aubrey's eyes widen and she braces herself, she knows she deserves whatever is coming. But…

The screaming, the violence, the pain she was preparing for never came. Instead, she feels the embraces of the adult in front of her and hears the sobbing from her too. The girl is confused, is this kindness? Is it guilt? What kind of punishment was this meant to be? Then she hears the woman speak once again, softer and quieter this time.

“What did I do wrong…? Am I a bad mother? I cannot save even a single child…”

Aubrey can’t find any response, what could she even say? She’ll never understand the pain this former parent feels. Losing not one, but both of her kids. That must be the most awful feeling in the world. So, Aubrey doesn't say anything, she instead returns the embrace and begins to cry as well.

What else could she do?

Sunny would have known…
