The Devil Wears Pink

Chapter 8: Chapter 8:

Summary:

After 'capturing' Latias, Ein's life gets even more absurd. Is it too late to just plead insanity?

Yes. Yes it is. Heck.

Notes:

Going to try and get my chapter on here instead of Space Battles. I can do more formatting over on SpaceBattles, mostly because I don't have the patience to figure out how to do that over here on AO3.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

A thing directed to either Latias, or himself. A thing he was not prepared to deal with at the moment.

And why was the list growing every time he checked it?!

Not in the slightest. So. How about he ponder anything else at all possible. Maybe think about the dumpster fire of existence?

Yea, that absolutely sounds like a better idea to him.

So, to start, Ein began attempting to come up with reasons not to adopt Latias, and began failing immediately. Dragons were proud, powerful, and beautiful creatures in their own way. Latias was only proud. She lacked strength of all sorts including strength of will, and the pride that dragons take in their bodies and taking care of themselves was not anywhere near present in Latias's exhausted looking form. When was the last time that she went to sleep?

It was painfully obvious that she was not taking care of herself for one reason or another, either breaking into his files was 'End-Of-The-World' level of importance to her, or she just… didn't take care of herself. Latias' feathers and fur were an absolute mess, snarls, knots, tangles, and quite a few feathers that needed to be preened away were abound on her. It had to be months of not being hygienic at all.

That was almost unheard of in dragons, but for a legendary to be acting like this? The wrongness screamed in his head. Then there was the fact that Latias seemed young. He no longer had a nose strong enough to determine that (Another thing to add to the list) but his aura sight showed an immaturity to her aura. Adolescent young, yes, and enough to protect oneself from casual attacks… but very young regardless. Come to think of it, Latios seemed young as well from what he could recall...

With a ribbon, he ever so slowly spent an hour of the evening learning everything there was to know on the public net of the Eon Duo. Then, with the help of some not-so-legal computer use, found the completely unpublic files on Latias and Latios. At least, the two that he saw downstairs.

Then Ein had to do breathing exercises as he felt a burning sensation in his being, his aura wrapping around himself and Latias like the protective cloak of summer itself. It was not even a conscious use of his own aura. To Ein, family was everything, and his fury was so great that he was almost at the level to commit murder in spite of the consequences. The implications of what he read made him livid. His reading did not endear him to the Pokemon League.

Though it has been unable to be confirmed with physical evidence, the individuals involved in the Alto Mare Incident (See Incident Report 118921) are on record saying many facts about the Latios and Latias that live in Alto Mare. For instance, it is known that previously a larger Latios used to frequent Alto Mare around 30 years prior. It is unknown the exact reason why, but it is suggested that a Great Evil (See Pokemopolis Report:[REDACTED]) was unsealed, and was moving to destroy Alto Mare and kill its citizens according to the oral history of the legends of Alto Mare.

Immediately afterwards, the citizens [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] were presented a glowing orb. [See Unknown Orb 223] Previous records indicate that it is statistically likely to be Soul Dew, though this has not been able to be confirmed. After the presentation of the Soul Dew to the people listed above, no sightings of the 'older' Latios have been reported.

Visual evidence and pictures of the Latios and Latias, presumed to both be younger than the larger one, were still young as their growth was evident from the passage of time. At current growth rates, the older Latias was likely 350 years old, while the younger pair of Eons were estimated to be closer to 10 years of age. Due to their presumed age and immaturity [See any Alto Mare Prank Incident Files] the pair are presumed to still be young. Despite their age, they appear to still be in control of, or at least in charge of, the [REDACTED].

So far there have been [37] attempts to capture Latios and/or Latias that are known.

There are [3] known active terrorist cells present in Alto Mare who are passively recording and reporting to their superiors.

Plans [Alpha Sapphire] and [Omega Ruby] are in place to pacify and capture Latios and Latias should the need arise in order to activate the [REDACTED].

Ein really need to stop reading the League files, they only ever made him furious. Ein was able to read between the lines however. Like him, at least in this life, Latias here was an orphan. Her mother apparently not in her life, and her father apparently sacrificed himself to save an entire city of people from a fate worse than death. For duty, for old oaths, and for doing what was right.

And humans were taking advantage of that sacrifice.

The literal children that the Latias had left behind with the humans, in the hope that they would be well taken care of and loved, because that is what a good parent did. It was obvious they were not being taken care of in the slightest, at least as far as Ein could tell.

The fact that Latias apparently had access to… the overlay thing, that ALL the legendaries presumably had access to some sort of aura based communications network meant that there was not a single thrice forsworn reason this wee drakina shouldst have duty and an sire's responsibility thrust'd 'pon them. Were th' olde ways gone with his own death? Where be th' keepers, the bosom friends, t' raise these precious bairns in th' father's place?!

Latias stirred in her sleep, gently nuzzling into his belly, shivering ever so slightly.

Calm.

Remain calm.

After all, he might wake her by accident, and she was tired enough as it was. With quiet care, he lifted and moved a blanket over Latias with an aura-controlled ribbon. Said ribbon gently stroked the top of her head until the shivering ceased, banishing whatever nightmare had been inflicted upon Latias.

Family was everything, and Ein would be a hypocrite if he did not admit the hole in his soul from his missing loved ones. He could never replace them, but this uppity headstrong dragon reminded him of his littlest sister so strongly it burned and balmed him in equal measure.

Dragon's bloody breath, he was going to adopt this terrible childe, because apparently she was up and abandoned as far as he could tell.

Okay, so. Since he knew he would not be able to sleep yet even if he tried because something was STILL watching him he occupied his mind with other things. Things that, hopefully, would not make him angry enough reintroduce the world to just what an angry fairy on a Wild Hunt was capable of.

That actually was a good idea. Let's see if he can find out who was watching. Send them a little tweak of the nose to let his displeasure be known. Maybe he might actually get some sleep if his instincts to protect this absurd dragon child calmed down.

Thanks to Valor, he learned just how it was that people sensed aura, both on the conscious and unconscious level. Since Ein was already very familiar with the movement of his own aura, it only took a few months of practice to be able to hide most of his entire presence if he concentrated. It also let him expand out his senses to be able to feel almost any drop of aura within his range. It wasn't precise, or terribly accurate yet, but he was still should have been able to find the strength and general direction of the aura.

With a subtle flex of his aura, his perceptions began to rise like the subtle movement of the tide. Ein added a little flick, the aura equivalent of whipping someone with a towel, and he found his answer, then had to bite his lower lip in abject terror nope nope nope I hope I didn't piss you off there nope nope-

The aura watching him was coming from 'everywhere/nowhere', and the strength was 'yes' and he just flicked their nose like an upstart kit.

FUCK.

>LEGENDARIUM>FRIENDS>DIRECTMESSAGES

Palkia: Ow.

Palkia: Hmm. Interesting.

Dialga: What?

Palkia: I think it sensed me.

Palkia: It poked me with its aura.

Dialga: …That complicates things.

Palkia: I do believe that if it knows it is being watched it will be more likely to behave.

Dialga: There are literal countless ways this can go wrong.

Dialga: Do not constantly watch it, but you can safely check up on it at regular, or irregular intervals.

Palkia: Understood. I am mostly watching out for Latias's sake.

Palkia: Do you know why it is wrapping their aura around her though?

Dialga: It's doing WHAT?

Stuffing that into the closet in the back of his mind that was getting disconcertingly full Ein began trying to ponder and do something ELSE.

Anything else.

After all, if he was going to die, he was going to die.

He would go down fighting of course, but tweaking the nose of something that was probably Palkia oh sh-

Calm. Deep breaths. He was not dead yet, and he had a precious one in his lap. He was okay.

No that was a lie. He was not oaky. He needed to calm down.

So that was what he tried and failed to do so for about an hour as he focused on his breathing.

A distraction would be good.

At the very least, he could go through the day's events. Literally, as there was something about watching the security camera feed from the lab that he couldn't help but smile as he wistfully saw himself prank the Eon duo.

Then paled in abject horror as he saw Latios destroy the coffee maker and most of the kitchen in the recording. He was terrified of Juniper, more so than 'whatever' was watching him. They seemed to be content to just watch after all, Professor Juniper however might actually kill him. Using his Xtransciever and the StarLucks website, he ordered several gallons of coffee, creamer, frappuccino, macchiatos, and everything else in every flavor that he knew Cincinno and Juniper liked, praying that it arrived on time.

Now determinedly unable to sleep from the dawning horror of his upcoming execution, Ein figured he may as well clean up electronically. He saved a copy of the security recordings from the night, stored it on a removable drive, and then wiped all records of its existence. Opening his door with a ribbon at distance wasn't easy, but he wanted the few seconds of warning for when Juniper woke up. Or to let him know when Juniper Sr., Cedric, woke up. Though that man tended to sleep like a rock type. Then, and only then, did he finally try his hand at sleeping once again. Latias was nice and soft after all the brushing.

>ONLINE: Virizion, Keldeo, Cobalion, Terrakion

Cobalion: Change of plans.

Cobalion: Palkia has informed me that Ein was able to detect her watching.

Virizion: There's no way that ended well for Ein

Cobalion: Yes, well, she did mention Ein was appropriately terrified of her.

Virizion: Oh, so he has SOME sense then.

Virizion: Good to know.

Terrakion: Glad that was established.

Terrakion: Now can we go and beat those senses out of him?

Cobalion: No.

Cobalion: Again, there has been a CHANGE of plans.

Terrakion: Ach, fine.

Terrakion: What do ya need me to do then?

Cobalion: Well, we are going to be doing reconnaissance

Cobalion: However, we are going to need to do things in a way that he cannot tell that we are watching him.

Cobalion: It is likely he has heard about us, pretty much everyone has, so if he see's or senses us he will need to think or act quickly.

Terrakion: So basically when we're made

Terrakion: We need to act fast?

Cobalion: No, what I suggest that we do is that we scout with the pokemon naturally in Nuvema Town

Cobalion: Use THEM to scout

Cobalion: Then use the information THEY gather, so that we can strike Fast, and with Great Justice.

Virizion: That plan seems as though it could work

Virizion: But which one of us is going to go to town then to get in contact with the locals?

Cobalion: You, Virizion, will seek out those in the town.

Cobalion: Your stealth will do you well.

Cobalion: Terrakion, talk to those in the western outskirts

Cobalion: I shall check the east.

Keldeo: And me?

Cobalion: You, Keldeo, will go south

Keldeo: …You want me to go in the ocean?

Keldeo: I know I'm a water type, yea, but I still can't breathe water you know…

Cobalion: Yes.

Cobalion: That thought did occur to me.

Cobalion: What I meant was for you to speak to the water types of the shore, and the flying types of the southern part of town. We will need all of their help.

Keldeo: I think that might be a bad idea

Virizion: Oh? And why would you think that?

Keldeo: So…

Keldeo: You just said Palkia was discovered watching.

Keldeo: So if we get a bunch of other pokemon, and they just start watching him

Keldeo: Don't you think he'll notice?

Virizion: …

Cobalion:…

Terrakion: Touche'…

Keldeo: Hmm? We're not sparring though.

Terrakion: Not the point Keldeo

Terrakion: In that case

Terrakion: Why not just tell them to tell us what he is doing, and if they can eavesdrop and listen to what he is planning?

Virizion: Wait.

Virizion: Professor Juniper is where he is staying, right?

Virizion: Why not just ask her pokemon?

Cobalion: That… is not likely a good idea.

Cobalion: I would like to believe that Professor Juniper is blameless in all of this

Cobalion: But we cannot trust a human that has been in contact with Ein for 8 years

Cobalion: And has done NOTHING to curb his actions

Blearily, Professor Juniper woke up, some sensation telling her it was Ein's fault but not really knowing why. Slowly turning her head took effort, and she looked at the clock. Rolling her eyes that it was a delightful 6:46 in the morning, absolutely wonderful. Just enough time to take a quick shower and head downstairs for coffee and a quick bite.

Ein was leaving today. Good grief she had so much paperwork to do now that he was heading out. Marshal had to be contacted, the league had to be notified, the moles from the terrorist organizations had to be given false information, and she had to level more death threats at Ein to make sure he behaved for Mercy.

She COULD always ask Cincinno to go with him, he would absolutely behave if she did that, but Juniper honestly needed her little fluffy friend for moral support and help. Cinccino was actually quite the scholar, and was an invaluable partner.

Ugh, just thinking about what she had to get done this day made her want a cup of coffee.

Or several.

Virizion: So what you're saying is that we shouldn't involve her?

Terrakion: 'Her'?

Terrakion: You know her pokemon?

Virizion: Yes, of course.

Virizion: We have worked with pokemon professors before

Virizion: This shouldn't surprise you

Terrakion: I know I know.

Cobalion: Back on topic please.

Terrakion: Right. Okay.

Cobalion: Report in this cat when you have something to report

Cobalion: *Chat

Virizion: I find it deplorable that we cannot edit our own messages

Terrakion: Admin only to prevent abuse.

Cobalion: HUSH and FOCUS, operational silence.

Keldeo: Got it sir!

Cobalion: ...*SIGH*

With Cinccino on her shoulder, Aurea Juniper slowly opened up her door walked out of her blessedly sound proofed room. Walking to the kitchen, still in her sleeping pajamas that looked just like Cinccino's own, her morning pilgrimage for the blessed coffee was ruined as she passed by Ein's open door.

Inside, Ein was asleep, and was not alone. Ein had so far to her knowledge displayed utterly no interest in any genders in any romantic way at all. So she felt the inklings of surprise to find someone else in his bed.

Wait. Something was wrong with that.

Squinting, she tilted her head, mirroring Cincinno's own expression as they both noticed that Ein was snuggled up to a Latias, with the ribbons of his outfit holding onto her in what was undeniably a protective embrace. Ein looked tired, even though he was asleep, and his normally immaculate outfit was a wreck.

Latias looked worse.

It… was way, way too early in the morning for Juniper to willingly deal with an Ein situation. So, ignoring it for now, she continued her walk to the kitchen.

Cobalion: I am in position on the east

Cobalion: There's an entire squadron of Patrat and Lillipup practicing drills over here

Cobalion: Does anyone have any idea why?

Virizion: Over here in town there are a lot of flying types.

Virizion: They seem to be lead by an Unfezant elder.

Virizion: I talked to them, when I explained it was Ein everyone looked at me like I was insane.

Virizion: They said that they never thought the day would come when the Swords of Justice would be laid low

Virizion: And they expressed concern that today would be that day

Cobalion: Excuse me?

Virizion: They implied that fighting Ein in city limits is folly.

Virizion: However, they would LOVE to help get rid of him.

Virizion: Something about a peanut butter laxative incident.

Cobalion: I need to stop asking questions that I don't want the answers to.

Cobalion: The Patrat and Lillipup likewise are being led by a few Watchog and Herdier.

Cobalion: They are more than a little nervous, but since it is JUST observing for things, they are fine with helping.

Terrakion: I have a bad feeling about this

Keldeo: So. I know that like, I'm not supposed to talk about stuff off topic, but I think this is on topic, and that you might want to know about it, so I'm sharing it because that's what I'm supposed to do since it's related and stuff right?

Keldeo: Right?

Terrakion: Get to the point newbie.

Keldeo: Oh, got it

Keldeo: The milotic down here says she's Professor Juniper's pokemon, so I didn't tell her much

Keldeo: But she let me know that if she see's Ein or hears anything about him she'll let me know.

Keldeo: She's really nice!

Keldeo: She said she's gonna teach me Aqua Ring while I do my steak out!

Cobalion: What.

Terrakion: *Stake Out

Keldeo: ???

Keldeo: No, I had it right

Keldeo: She's a really good cook!

Cobalion: . . .

Cobalion: Terrakion? How about you?

Terrakion: The deerling are nice

Terrakion: But. Uh.

Terrakion: They are a little bit lacking upstairs, if you get what I mean

Terrakion: Kinda like Keldeo

Keldeo: But I have a horn!

Keldeo: I take care of it every day.

Terrakion: Yes.

Terrakion: Horns. Deerling do not have any until they are Sawsbuck.

Terrakion: The sawsbuck are reasonable however

Terrakion: There aren't many, they're on migration

Terrakion: They, and their deerling, are willing to help us out and report back to us

Cobalion: Alright. Since we are all in position, ready yourselves for battle.

Cobalion: Eat, rest, and wait.

Cobalion: But be ready at a moment's notice.

With Cincinno on her shoulder, Aurea Juniper slowly turned around the corner and walked steadily onwards towards the kitchen. Still in her sleeping pajamas, and Cinccino in theirs as well, her morning tranquil journey for the blessed coffee was ruined as she passed by the open lab door.

Correction.

The utterly demolished lab door that showed a several million poke' display of pokeballs and cultural artifacts in a broken mess on the floor.

Okay.

This was okay.

They had insurance, they had enough money in the budget anyway. It would be just another pile of paperwork. It was a problem for later.

The partners slowly walked by the mess and walked their way into the kitchen. The kitchen had a significant sized hole in a wall, with three full meters of the counter and cabinetry practically disintegrated.

There, resting like a murder victim on the floor was the coffee machine, leaking the water that it was meant to have already turned into dark, bold, delicious life giving coffee. Instead, it was gutted, dismembered, and violated. A micro pump was scattered, the percolator smashed in twain, and the poor water heater…

Juniper's eye twitched. Cincinno began to glow with Power.

Turning around, she went to go talk to the source of the problem.

Ein woke with a start, absolutely confident he was about to be murdered in his sleep.

Sleep. He actually manage to fall asleep? That was unexpected.

Eyes quickly darting to the clock, he paled and frantically pulled out his Xtransciever and dialed, not caring that it might wake up Latias this time, his life was on the line.

When the line clicked, he didn't even wait for them to get in the first word before he spoke. "This is Ein. I will tip an additional 10,000 poke, get the order to me now if at all possible! There was an incident in the lab, the coffee maker was destroyed. That means Professor Juniper and Cincinno will miss their morning coffee and blame me. It literally was NOT my fault! I'm too young to die please help!"

"Sir. No- Ein. No tricks?"

"You have never been through an Aurea Juniper 'Disappointed in you' lecture, I would rather dig latrines or babysit an entire daycare."

"...14,000, that's a lot of coffee in your order. Wouldn't want to spill any of it after all." The operator added with a mischievous tone, trying to eeke out ever last poke.

"Done. Please hurry."

"Oh, and there's the whole other fee…"

"Ma'm." Ein's tone changed. "I have a legendary pokemon in my lap that I do not want to wake up and Pofessor Juniper is likely coming up here to kill me. I am being generous. Do not tempt me unless you want another pidove incident."

There was silence on the line for a few moments before the voice replied. "Noted. I'll bill you." Click

Virizion: Okay. I don't know many traffic laws, but I can tell that's illegal.

Cobalion: What's going on.

Virizion: A delivery truck has decided to attempt the move extreme speed

Virizion: It going at speed to…

Cobalion: Yes?

Virizion: Sorry, some pidove and their tranquill were letting me know

Virizion: The truck is heading to the lab

Terrakion: !!!

Terrakion: Someone must have blabbed.

Terrakion: It's suspected he can understand poke'speech anyhow

Terrakion: Did we let our observers know that?

Cobalion: I… No, it slipped my mind.

Cobalion: I will do better next time.

Cobalion: For now, everyone, stop that van, then advance on the lab

Cobalion: Ein is obviously in there, and we can find him.

Virizion: He does stand out a bit.

Cobalion:

Keldeo: Milly says she's gonna throw me into the air so I can rocket over to the lab.

Keldeo: ITS SO MUCH FUN.

Keldeo: WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-

>An impressionable Keldeo has fainted.

Terrakion: Keldeo?

Terrakion: Are you alright?

Cobalion: Keldeo, report.

Virizion: I see him.

Virizion: He uh, needs to work on his landing.

Terrakion: But is he alright?

Virizion: He's alive, and he'll learn not to run headfirst into trees.

Cobalion: Status on the delivery truck?

Virizion: Making it's way. I think I was spotted, it sped up even more.

Virizion: The flock of pidove are divebombing it with uh-

Virizion: The pidove are blinding the windshield.

Terrakion: Heh

Terrakion: Of course they are.

Terrakion: I can see the lab in the distance, it will take me a bit but I'll get there

Cobalion: Virizion is in pursuit, Terrakion is going to the destination, I then shall intercept.

Virizion: The driver is a trainer.

Virizion: That is one angry Swoobat

Virizion: Be advised, there is a Zebstrika and Swoobat escorting the delivery truck

Virizion: They have neutralized our outside help

Virizion: Cobalion, you're up.

Virizion:

Cobalion:

Virizion: I did not know you could do that

Cobalion: How

Terrakion: I'm hiding out just within sight of the lab.

Terrakion: What happened.

Cobalion: They MUST be an ace trainer level of opponent.

Virizion: Cobalion used metal calw, ripped the two left wheels off the car

Virizion: So the driver is now driving the car with two wheels

Terrakion: That's good, it will have to slow down

Cobalion: You misunderstand.

Cobalion: They have tilted the car so that it is ONLY on those two wheels

Cobalion: The rest are in the air

Cobalion:

Cobalion: And they have just sped up with the Zebstrika's help.

Cobalion: The swoobat is providing too much interference.

Cobalion: I'll have to engage.

Cobalion: Terrakion, you're up.
