Chapter Text
Shouto Todoroki was not having a good day. That wasn’t to say it was necessarily a bad day, either, but it definitely wasn’t good. Some of the bad things included his dad yelling at him, he stubbed his toe while packing, and his sister had encouraged him to interact with more of his classmates other than his boyfriend. Gross.
The good things, however, may just barely outweigh the bad things. Shouto got to see his boyfriend for the first time in a week, officially was going to move out of his dad’s house, and got to call his mom. All in all, a solid neutral kind of day.
The only problem was the day that came after. Shouto and everyone else involved in what was being referred to as the “Kamino Incident” with a capital I were pulled aside by Aizawa and were given a strict talking to. Shouto was just thinking about his new room and whether or not he’d end up close to Hanta’s room. Hanta had been non-stop texting Shouto the night before, leaving him exhausted but very much content.
“... And that concludes my thoughts. Would anyone like to express their opinion on the matter? Hm?” When met with silence, Aizawa dismissed the ‘rebellious’ teens to unpack and relax. Shouto didn’t find himself intimidated by his teacher, unlike a majority of his classmates. Going up against him in the final exam with Midoriya had been a difficult challenge, but not an impossible one by any means.
As Shouto had already moved all of his boxes inside, all he had left to do was unpack. And maybe install new flooring. Hanta thought that it would be overkill, but Shouto thought that it would add a nice personal touch. Shouto hadn’t really had much control over his room before, but now seemed like the perfect time to try a few things out.
Shouto was very pleasantly surprised to see that he and Hanta had rooms directly next to each other on the fifth floor. Hanta, as it turns out, had decided to also entirely redesign his room despite his disdain for Shouto’s plans. He had added a hammock to his room, a memento from home that Shouto doubted anyone else would include.
“Babe, are you really sure that getting supplies from Hatsume is the smartest idea?” Hanta was unpacking clothes, haphazardly shoving them into the drawers of his dressers as Shouto took them out to refold. “Didn’t she, like, blow up another lab last week?”
“Yes, I do believe it is. I’m not using her actual inventions, and besides, where else am I supposed to get that many tatami mats from on such short notice? I am open to suggestions.” Shouto folded an Endeavor shirt, unable to keep a nasty look off of his face as he did. “You know, if you want to get some other hero merchandise, I could cover it for you. There are much better options than this low quality, overpriced trash.”
“Thanks for the offer.” Hanta took the shirt from Shouto’s hands before he could ‘accidentally’ light it on fire. “Maybe for next week's date we could go to that new store at the mall?”
“We never did get to go with the rest of the class. Do you think anyone else would want to come?”
Hanta considered it for a minute. “Maybe a few of them, but I don’t think inviting Midoriya would be the smartest idea. The whole, yknow, supervillains attacking thing probably ruined it for him.”
Shouto nodded, moving on to another shirt. “Indeed. Let’s just keep it to the two of us.” The two sat in comfortable silence, each other’s presence enough. He smiled, which was something he caught himself doing more genuinely lately. Getting together with Hanta may have just been the best thing to happen to Shouto. Hanta had shown him happiness, love, and friendship without asking for much in return. Shouto was all too glad to receive it and give it back, fostering a caring relationship. After the Sports Festival, Shouto had hung around Hanta for a while before Hanta decided to go out on a limb and ask Shouto out. Having no reason to say no, Shouto made the best possible decision and gained a boyfriend.
The only problem that Shouto was currently facing with said boyfriend was that he was denying their usual date of the week to, instead, ‘chill with the bros’. Shouto was familiar with the phrase ‘bros before hoes’, but never before did he imagine that it would be used in regards to him.
“Hanta.” Shouto broke the peace. “Why are you placing the bros before the hoes? And to clarify, I mean myself when I say hoes.”
Hanta choked on his spit, caught off guard by the sudden question. “What?” He stuttered, clearing his throat. “Why do you say that?”
“Is that not what you are doing?” Shouto asked. “You’re hanging out with Mina, Kaminari, and Kirishima instead of honoring our three month long tradition. That is, in all ways, putting your bros before me, the hoe.”
Hanta snorted, and Shouto frowned. “It’s just one time! I swear!” Hanta leaned over and kissed Shouto on the cheek. “I swear, we can hang out tomorrow instead.”
“It’s not the same.” Shouto pouted. With summer camp and the general chaos, they had also missed the two previous date nights.
“I’ll make it up to you.” Hanta stood, having run out of laundry to shove into his drawers. “Now, I’m gonna go hang with the bros, hoe. See you later!”
As Hanta left him alone, Shouto came to a decision. Shouto would make Hanta regret ever putting the bros above the world’s best hoes.

Aizawa Shouta may have had some bad ideas in his time, but maybe one of his worst ones was starting a conversation with a boy who’d just been kidnapped with “We all know a quirk manifesting at your age with this specific timing isn’t natural.”
He’d asked Midoriya to come to his office, the one he rarely used in favor of the couch in the teacher’s lounge. They were sitting across from each other, Midoriya caught entirely off guard.
Midoriya was sweating bullets, anxiety palpable as he looked anywhere other than at Shouta. “I, uh,” he stammered, “I don’t know what you mean?”
Shouta sighed. “Denial won’t get you anywhere, kid. Let’s just cut to the chase. Did All for One, while you were near him, force a quirk onto you?”
“Is that what his name was? All the villains just called him Sensei.” Midoriya seemed genuinely confused and caught off guard now. “Also, not that I know of? I don’t think he did, at least.”
“Yes, his name was All for One.” Shouta supplied. He’d seen spies use playing dumb to try and catch people off guard, but it wouldn’t work on Shouta. He was currently sixty-seven percent sure that Midoriya was UA’s traitor, but he was smart enough to hold it in his suspicions for now. Changing directions, Shouta asked a different question. “Did the other villains say anything about him? Mention any personal details?”
Midoriya thought for a moment before responding. “No, I don’t think so. They weren’t very professional as far as villains go, but they didn’t say anything about All for One.”
“Hm.” Shouta grunted, placing his hand on his fist. “Then how’d you get your quirk?”
For a singular moment, something showed in Midoriya’s eyes. A call for help, desperation, faith- Shouta wasn’t one hundred percent sure what he’d call it, but it was there. It disappeared quickly, however, and was replaced with a look of hesitation. “Um, I- I know this is, like, super suspicious and everything, but I can’t tell you.”
“Try me.”
“Uh- it’s kinda a state secret? And I’m not sure you would want to know, anyways?” Midoriya scratched the back of his head, thoughts clearly elsewhere. If what he was saying was true, then Shouta may be in deep shit. If it wasn’t, then he’d just caught his spy.
“Fine. Don’t tell me, I won’t ask. In the meantime, I’ll set up a plan for your quirk counseling. Better late than never.” Shouta waved the boy away, ending their brief meeting. Nothing added up about this situation, and he was afraid that if he dug deeper Midoriya would just further isolate himself.
“Tenth, I think you should trust him! He seems nice!”
“Yeah, and like he doesn’t even know what a shower is.”
“Shut up, I’m sure he’s great!”
“Why are you so confident that Tenth can hear you?”
“He responded when we were by Eighth, so maybe he can just hear us all of the time!”
“Poor, poor him. Being stuck with you ranting all the time?”
“You live with it and you’re fine!”
“I do not live and I’m not fine.”
