The Sound of Misery [Edited and Revised edition]

Chapter 5: The Baxter Building

Chapter Text

On the way home, I remained silent.

"You okay, Franklin?" Uncle Johnny asked, I nodded and put on my headphones, I didn't put on the music though, I kind of wanted to know what they would say, "You should let him be himself."

"No," Mom replied, "He may think he knows best but he doesn't."

"He still has his own opinions and ideas, he's allowed to have those ideas,"

"I know that, but it doesn't know that he knows best, he's only sixteen,"

"He still knows what he wants, and he obviously wants to stay there more often," Johnny argued, "Besides, you're always saying that you want him to have more friends."

"Yes, but-"

"But what? Not a mutant kid?"

I unpaused my music, but I didn't pay attention to it, I was too busy focusing on what mom had been saying.

She thinks I'm going through a phase.

When we got home, I went straight to my bedroom.

"Franklin, we need to talk," Mom opened my door.

"Knock first," I muttered, she ignored me and sat down on my bed.

"Listen, I know you like it at...Krakoa but-" She started to say.

"I know, I heard," I interrupted, staring at my blanket, "I was eavesdropping."

"What? Why?"

"Because I saw that you don't like Logie, but he's cool and I like him."

"You only met him yesterday, what do you even know about him?"

"He understands what it's like to be the child of people who are famous, he's funny and nice, I feel like I can talk to him," I said, "He also was able too make a guy with a gun fall asleep."

"You know why I don't want you to stay on Krakoa that often, don't you?"

"Yeah, yeah, I know, I know," I said, mom looked concerned, as thought she wasn't sure why I was upset.

I stared back down at my blanket until she left, as soon as she did, my phone rang with an unknown number.
