Chapter Text
Jonathan stared at his ceiling. It’s been a week yet all he could think about was Damian. Damian and that man he hates. Jon did not know why it upset him so much seeing Damian with Laney but it did. It hurt. Jon did not know if he wanted to fight the two for being so sickening sweet all the time or shower them in love because… Damian seems to be happy. He hates Laney that much is known but… oh the image of seeing Damian’s cheeky smirk and that laugh that Jon could only dream about until recently made his heart flutter.
It is wrong of Jon to be thinking these ways. He knew when he was younger he did find Damian attractive but growing up without him made Jon lose that spark. That spark did reappear but just for another. He has spent years with Jay and adores him.
Damian embodies his hero's name, he’s a robin, someone who thrives to have freedom which Jon loves but Jay. Jon loves Jay; the way his pink hair flows in the wind reminds Jon of Sakura's blooming, the soft scent of Jay’s body wash, and of course his brain. Jay doesn’t have the brain the bats do but he is smart yet he never is condescending the way Damian can be.
So Jon knows it’s wrong to be thinking about Damian because he loves Jay. Yet here he is staring up at the ceiling waiting for answers to find him, acting like the very person he is thinking about isn’t outside the very house he is in running around with Laney. He spent the past couple of days at Jay's to avoid this because hearing the two have fun hurts so much. Jon has always been someone to chase rainbows so why is he so down in the dumps, maybe it's the fact he knows Laney is no good.
With a sigh, Jon turns to his side to see outside his window. There before his eyes, he watches Damian and Laney play together. His superspeed was able to pick up Laney, grabbing a bunch of leaves. Laney flies in a circle around Damian and lets the leaves fall from right above the boy. Damian’s face has a slight pink tone to it while he lets out a laugh only to jump up and pull Laney down to the ground. Laney lets out his own laugh and pushes Damian. This invokes a smirk out of the boy who grabs some leaves off the ground to throw at Laney. Jon watches Laney let out an obnoxious gasp and grab Damian’s arm. Jon jumps off his bed worried about Damian.
But, in the next scene, Jon can not believe his eyes as he watches Laney spin Damian only to tip the boy a little bit back. It almost seems to be in slow motion as Jon watches Laney lean down and kisses Damian. All Jon could do was stand on his bed and watch, watch as he sees Damian’s eyes widen and push the other away. Watch as a pink tent appears on Damian’s cheeks.
“Why does my heart hurt,”
–
A week, a week is all it took for Laney to become part of Damian’s life. It did start out slow, Damian will give him that yet for some reason the boy was able to slip into place as though he belonged next to Damian. He knew when Damian got up, that type of tea he preferred in the morning, cheese tea, and the tea he wanted at dinner surrounded by the family, earl gray. He also knew Damian did not like earl gray at all and just drank it because his father did, much like how he does not like coffee but will drink it when others are around to seem mature.
Laney knew what Damian wanted before the boy knew himself. Over the days Laney would talk about different places and things he has encountered while traveling through time and space.

“You know there’s a version of us that have wolf-like features,” Laney said casually while he watched Damian type away at an essay for his college.
Damian stopped his motion to give the other a perplexed look “What does that even mean?” he questioned with a tilt of his head which cause Laney to grin a little at the sight.
“They are like werewolves with the whole turning into wolves and they even have pack dynamics and shit,” Laney gave a motion of his hand as though it was normal but he gave Damian a smirk “You know you were an omega in that universe,” he finished with a sticking his tongue out.
Damian scuffed and pushed Laney off his bed “Please you also told me there was a universe where I stayed with the league so quite frankly these other universes are not truly me,”. Damian points a finger at Laney, "Plus you know the whole omega and alpha thing is a lie and it is just some old white man confusing family dynamics,".
Laney laughed from his spot on the floor. Damian smirked at him, Laney watched a glint of mischief in green eyes which made him know what he had to do to knock Damian down a peg. Laney moved closer to Damian’s side of the bed and laid his head down “You are so smart my songbird. Just have to show me all your knowledge don't you. But you are right, you are the original so all the other Damian could only hope to be like you,”. Laney watched as Damian’s face turned a bright red and the other smacked to boy off the bed once again.
“You insufferable oaf!”

Still, it has been a week and Damian does not know what Laney wants. Laney has kept up with his statement of loving Damian yet the boy does not know why. He has asked about Laney’s home of course but all he is the same statement “I have no home, all I am is a Jonathan without a Damian, who just travels through space and time,”.
Damian can’t help but feel that something is off with that story. Damian has also taken notice of the lack of the actual Jon which is odd considering Damian has been by the farm quite a bit to see Laney. Something is going on that Damina just can’t quite understand yet but he does not plan to give up. He is the son of the world's greatest detective after all, figuring out things is kinda their whole family’s deal. Laney can not hide it forever and Damian will be the first to know even if it's the last thing he does. Soloy because he is extremely curious about this whole ordeal.
