Love is a tricky thing

Chapter 4: Bonus Headcanons

Notes:

Since I only got to showcase so much of Tenya’s parents, I decided to include some extra details about their lives and personalities via a list of headcanons. Hope you enjoy!

Chapter Text

Mrs. Iida:

- General Info: Tenya’s mom is generally a sweet and timid person. She’s very petite—only about 5’ 2” (157cm) in comparison to her giant sons, and has the quirk Engine. She shares Tenya and Tensei’s eye shape and color, as well as Tenya’s bad eyesight (though hers is worse). Mrs. Iida used to be the previous Ingenium before her sons, inheriting the title from her father.

- Quirk: Her engines are located in each of her ankles, and are lightweight for almost instant acceleration. You could say she accelerates sooner than her two sons, and can average faster speeds (minus when Tenya uses his Recipro Burst, in which case he would be faster). In her heyday, she was able to reach spurts of 80mph (~130kph), but not without stalling her engines afterwards. The quirk singularity theory resulted in Tenya and Tensei having stronger engines that could run for longer durations, and output more physical strength into their attacks.

As a hero, Mrs. Iida was a rather reserved woman who came across as intimidating because of how little she spoke in-costume. She didn’t do well with media attention, which resulted in her husband taking the job of managing her online presence, as well as the overall appeal of Ingenium as a brand.

For as nice as she is, she can be a bit mischievous and frivolous at times. She and her husband enjoy teasing their kids in moderation, with her often having a more subtle approach to learning their little secrets. She also has a habit of occasionally hoarding odd knickknacks (her tea maker being one of them) and has a hard time not spontaneously purchasing products from infomercials. She’s also a bit gullible, and has resulted in getting her online accounts hacked more than once via scam links.

Mr. Iida:

- General info: Tenya’s dad is a casual, loud, and goofy person. He’s incredibly tall and broad-shouldered, standing at a whopping 6’ 3” (191cm). Neither of his sons inherited his slim eye shape or red eye color (unless you read the manga, *hint hint*), but it’s probably for the best—given he’s been told on occasion that he has a resting angry face.

- Quirk: I didn’t explicitly say what his quirk was, because by making Mrs. Iida Ingenium, I assumed he must had some other quirk that Horikoshi never listed. If I were to assume what his quirk was though, I would’ve given him some sort of elbow turbo. It’s a different quirk than Engine, and gives a possible reason for why Tensei’s engines are located on his elbows instead of his legs.

Though Mr. Iida isn’t an actual hero, he worked as sort of an honorary mascot for Ingenium’s brand. With his charisma, Mr. Iida managed the advertising and corporate sides of their family business. Given that his wife isn’t the best with money or publicity, he happily took the position, and even owns a hero’s license and costume—though they were mostly for show. His license was more for self-defense related reasons, meanwhile his wife took on the actual hero missions that came their way.

Given that Mr. Iida is so loud in comparison to his mellow sons, Tenya especially tends to clash with him. Looks can be deceiving though, as Mr. Iida is actually very book-smart, and used to teach Tenya and Tensei extra lessons when they were younger—whether they liked them or not. He’s very organized, and enjoys acquiring new skills, so hearing about the different courses UA has to offer fascinates him. If he ever taught there as a teacher, he’d like to work for the business course.

Notes:

Okay so at this point i guess my update schedule is out of whack lol
Thing is, I need to make sure the Adrenaline Arc and Love Coach Ochako are properly lining up this whole time, so I'm having to switch between working on one or the other--and the problem with the Adrenaline Arc shorts, is rather than just being one 6,000 word chapter, they're typically comprised of 3 or more 4,000 word parts. T-T
Baaaasically if I work on the Iidamei arc one week, it's just gonna be late. That's how it is lol. When I do LCO stuff though, I can definitely do 1 chap a week.

Also adding artwork takes longer too, but that's a personal choice lol.

Anyway, I'm still working good and hard on this series. AND my motivation is back tenfold! (Just gotta make sure not to waste extra time playing Minecraft on the side, hehehe)
