Chapter Text
Pet Shop stared at Diego; his eyes squinted as if he knew what he had planned. The falcon simply looked away, allowing them to leave beyond the gate to their freedom. When they passed the gate, Diego felt the sharp stare; never once did he stop moving until they were out of his sight. Heading to a more populous location, he finally let out a sigh of relief, seeing some people still out and about this late at night. Luck was on his side as he got to the train station as fast as he could for the 11:03 departure to Alexandria.
He helped Haruno and Donatello into the seat next to him before he sat down with the youngest two still in his arms. His cyan eyes met the blue-gray ones of Haruno, and the two looked at each other in silence before Diego chose to speak: "Just rest, Haruno."
As tired as Diego began to get, he couldn't sleep. His mind kept flashing back to the moment that actually allowed this escape plan to occur.
The followers of Dio stood around discussing who would attack the Joestars next, and it seemed it was up to Hol Horse and J. Geil to go. Diego looked boredly up at his 'brother', and it took every single ounce of the younger Brando not to cringe at the smile he gave.
"Dio, if I may be bold..."
"About what, Diego?"
"May I travel to Calcutta as well? I have no doubt that the two may get a few of the weaker members of the group. You need someone like me to go to make sure Jotaro and Joseph are killed." He explained, hoping that the elder Brando would allow him.
He seemed to mull it over for a moment, but nodded.
"Go, show us truly how strong the Brandos are."
After that, the jockey took the kids. His cyan eyes looked down at the infants; the two were asleep for the most part, but they were sweating as if they had a fever. He brought his hand to Rikiel's forehead, and Diego's eyes widened when he felt how hot he was. Bringing his hand to Ungalo's forehead, it was the same.
"Shit. I didn't realize they were sick."
Luckily for the adult, they arrived at Alexandria not too long after that, and he quickly ushered the children towards the harbor. Previously, the jockey made sure to hire someone to wait to ferry the children and himself over to Greece.
"Dad, I don't feel good..." Donatello said as he barely clung on to the cape.
"What-?"
Diego readjusted the infants and picked up the toddler, his eyes set on Haruno, who was only staring ahead of him.
"Haruno? Are you okay?"
He looked up at Diego with a nod; he seemed to look fine. Spotting the person with the ferry he had hired, they joined him on the boat.
--
He spotted the familiar pink-haired woman, and it took everything in him not to rush towards her. Diego had since lost the cape and kept it wrapped around Haruno and Donatello as a blanket. The other blanket over Rikiel and Ungalo remained over them to hide the fact that they were deathly ill.
"Hot Pants." The jockey said as he made it to her side that his eyes softened as he glanced at her.
"Diego. This way." Was all she said as she scooped the toddlers up and made her way to the car she had procured.
The two remained silent on the way to the car, stealing glances at each other, but neither spoke until the boys were buckled up and the infants remained in his arms.
"That shade of green is not a good color on you." She spoke as she glanced over at him.
"I agree, but it's not my concern any longer." He rubbed the lipstick off his lips before he glanced down at the infants. His usual harsh stare was replaced by something softer.
"Any word from Johnny and Gyro?"
"They landed in Athens a few hours ago; they'll be meeting us there soon, hopefully."
The two remained silent for a bit before Diego eventually sighed. Hot Pants raised an eyebrow as she looked over at him, some concern on her face.
"Diego--"
"I'm fine. Just you three need to watch over the boys while I'm gone."
"Gone? What are you doing?"
Diego glanced out the window before he glanced at Rikiel and Ungalo with softened stares. As the jockey raised his head, he looked at her with a determined stare.
"I'm joining the Joestars in defeating Dio."
