Chapter Text

"What is Yavin 13?"
"A moon, desolate. A long time ago it was wiped out and there isn't much left on it."
"Why are we going there?"
"I am going to get K-2 to send word to Melshi- he's a good friend and he will get us the numbers we need. We'll meet up on Yavin 13 and we'll leave from there to Scarif."
She looked at her relfection in the glass.
She had been so sure that he was going to abandon her. She had been so certain that the last thing she was ever going to see was his back to her.
"What's wrong?" he dared to ask. There was a laundry list a mile long but she just shook her head.
"I'm not used to people sticking around when things go bad."
He smiled at her a little bit, something almost mischievous in his eyes when he looked at her.
"Welcome Home."
----

They made it to Yavin 13 and the place really was desolate. They got out of the cramped cruiser and waited for the others to arrive. K-2 had relayed the message to Melshi and they were going to commandeer the Imperial ship that Bodhi had stolen from the Rebels to sneak onto the base on Scarif.
The plan was a rather simple one. With Bodhi's help, they would be able to get through the shield gate, sneak onto the base, cause a distraction, probably involving some explosions- and then they would steal the plans, get off world- make it home to Yavin IV before anyone realized what was going on.
"You think that these men will go into this with us?" she asked, pacing back and forth. They had been waiting for K-2 to send them a message that they had made it off Yavin IV but they were still waiting.
"These men will do anything for the Rebellion- they will volunteer to take on such an important mission," he said, having a good idea already of who Melshi was going to ask. After a long silence she turned and looked at Cassian.
"Why are you doing this? Why are you helping me now?"
She didn't want it to be because of guilt for her father. She would rather just go on the mission alone if that was his purpose. She wanted it to be for something else. Anything else. Because like her many battles before her, they were staring down another enemy that was ready to kill them without hesitation. She had managed to keep her head down for too long and now she was going to have to fight with her head held high. That was the perfect place for a blaster.
But Cassian had no steak in this. She had to do this because her father knew it was vital that the Death Star be destroyed and gave her the mission. She was going to complete it for him. But what about Cassian? He couldn't possibly think that this was worth potentially his life? He was a spy- he should be back at the Rebel Base, getting his next mission.
Cassian looked at Jyn after she asked him that question and thought about it for a long pause before turning to face her fully.
"I've done terrible things in the name of the Rebellion. Horrible things... things that I can't... I can't even begin to describe to you."
She nodded, understanding him. When she was able to sleep, the men and women she had killed were at the forefront of her dreams. Their screams of agony, the terror in their eyes when a child stood over them with a blaster in her hand. She had been a killer for as long as she could remember, if anyone understood- it was Jyn.
"The Rebellion is everything to me now. If I don't do this- what was this all for?"
He thought about the people he had met through this whole experience. Nemik, Skene, Val. He had seen the fire in their eyes and the willingness to fight. He couldn't help but even think of Bix, so destroyed by what had happened to her. This was a cause worth dying for, he was sure of it but if the Alliance didn't stop the Death Star now- they were all doomed.
"I understand... thank you... for coming with me."
She had always felt completely alone- even when she was with her parents or Saw- but with Cassian, she felt like everything was going to be okay, no matter what happened. Now they would soon be on their way to Scarif and they would get the Death Star plans, no matter what. She was determined and there was nothing in this entire universe that would stop Jyn Erso from getting what she wanted.

Notes:

A/N: Finally finished, sorry for the late update, was trying to get it written but kept getting stuck. I wanted to basically open the door and leave it there for the events of Rogue One and Scarif to happen immediately after this. Thank you for the kind words and I am actually really happy that I got to write for the first time in so long- it's literally been 4 years since I even thought about writing and this prompt just really opened up my mind, I am very grateful! Thank you for reading!!!

Notes:

Wow- I literally haven't written or published a single fanfic in almost 4 years and single prompt got my head full of thoughts! And I honestly just wanted to write a story where Jyn and Cassian got a lot of time to fight just the two of them.
