Chapter Text
The winter passed calmly, the two monsters hibernated while Cross spent this season sticking to me and following me everywhere. Not a day went by without him being around me or following me even for small tasks like washing the dishes.
The only thing that's really out of the ordinary is the death of the Duke's child: Floralis Fair .
Otherwise the one I killed with my hands.
When I read it in the paper, Cross was in my arms and I don't know if he read his previous owner's name but he didn't say anything and just rubbed his skull against me purring. However, when this news was announced, a bonus was put in place.
Whoever would bring information about the death of Floralis Fair , would get a large amount of gold and silver. I say nothing but hope with all my heart that no one saw me that day. When I finished reading, I quickly tossed the newspaper into the fireplace and decided to read a book on the couch. The monochrome monster follows me as always and once I have my book in my hands, it climbs on top of me to lie down while leaving its tail trailing on the ground.
Even Cross told me he doesn't hibernate, I don't think he realizes how much he sleeps on me but I don't say anything since I don't mind. I'm reading my book when I hear a noise coming from the stairs and knowing that I have to be alone with Cross, I gently turn my head so as not to wake the sleeping monster.
My eyes widen when I see Error's still sleepy form slowly descending the stairs to come near the couch I'm lying on. I watch him as he says hello to me while resting his skull on my shoulder and I raise my arm to stroke his head then remember that he doesn't like to be touched. I wanted to pull my hand away quickly but when I realize he's getting closer to my hand than he is moving away, I decide to continue. I ask the monster who just arrived if he 's hungry but he shakes his head then looks at Cross.
He sits up and stretches saying that Cross seems to have adjusted well but the way he said it was a bit strange. It's like it's ironic or sarcastic, something like that.
I straighten up and get up leaving Cross on the couch then ask Error to follow me to cook him a meal and while I'm cooking I wonder if Nightmare will also wake up. Once the meal is done, I place it in front of Error, who is waiting quietly and I look at the window. There is still snow outside but unlike the beginning of winter, there are some rays of sunshine streaming across the sky.
At this point I wonder if Nightmare might not be a summer naga just like Cross is a winter naga and if I follow that logic then Error should be a spring naga. If our idea is good, Nightmare won't be waking up anytime soon.
I snap out of my thoughts when I hear hissing and when I turn around I see Cross and Error looking at each other with killer eyes. I sigh calling the names of the two boys because otherwise I might have a fight in the house.
I wonder why they can't stand each other. Maybe I should look for a book on the subject? I sigh and decide to go out, it's past noon but even if it's a bit cold, it's not as freezing as at the beginning of winter. I look at the layer of snow on the ground and think back a little to my childhood.
Sometimes I wonder if my family is looking for me or even if they think I'm still alive but knowing the nobles, I know they buried me six feet under and for a long time. I come out of my thoughts when I feel a presence beside me, two presences rather.
Error is on my right and Cross on my left, the two monsters are holding a part of my dress looking at me with concern. They both ask me if I'm okay but when they notice they've said the same thing they look at each other whistling. I chuckle putting a hand on each skull saying I'm just in my thoughts saying I was thinking of my family.
I think they saw that I was making a strange face because they didn't ask me for more explanation. At the same time how to explain to them that I went back in time and that I know what will happen for the years to come?
I remain silent for a while until I hear the window being knocked and when I look up I see a crow with a paper tied to its feet. I open the window, feed the bird then look at the paper to read:
- Your head is priced.
I widen my eyes as I get up and then get up to take my coat, asking the monsters not to come out. They don't understand my panic but before they can do anything, I slam the door out.
I run to the stable to take my horse and gallop to the merchant's shop. The shop is still open but at this time it is empty. I panic in the shop and I see the merchant who arranges vials behind the counter.
He jumps when he hears the door slam loudly but calms down when he sees me and before I can say anything he puts a sheet on the counter.
