Chapter Text
“What’s more surprising?” Eddie asked, tapping his phone against his knee. “Asking him tonight, or not asking him tonight?”
“Will Buck expect you to ask tonight?” Christopher said, squinting at him. “If he’s banking on you planning some big grand gesture, probably not.”
“I don’t knowww,” Eddie whined. “This was so much easier last time.”
Christopher rolled his eyes, and said nothing.
“Yeah, okay,” Eddie replied anyway. “It wasn’t romantic. But maybe that fussy stuff just isn’t me. Maybe I’m not that kind of guy.”
“You can make it a nice moment without having to go overboard with the fussy stuff,” Christopher said.
Arching one eyebrow, Eddie said, “There was mention of an orchestral flash mob.”
“Yeah,” Christopher replied sassily. “By you . Just do something genuine, Buck will love it.”
“Genuine,” Eddie said. Sweeping his tongue across his lips, he nodded slowly. “Sure, I can do that.”
“So, keeping that in mind,” Christopher said, his tone sage and curious. “Do you want to ask Buck tonight? He’s ready, but are you ?”
Eddie paused. He gave his son a very direct look and murmured, “Honestly?”
Rolling his eyes, Christopher muttered, “Obviously.”
“I’ve been ready for years.”
Christopher frowned. “You haven’t been dating for years .”
“I know,” Eddie said. “But I’ve still been ready. And it’s really hard to gauge when to ask someone to marry you when you’ve been wanting to marry them longer than you’ve been dating.”
“Sounds to me like you should ask him,” Christopher said.
“I will,” Eddie promised. “But … tonight?”
Shrugging, Christopher said, “Why wait any longer if you both know you want it?”
“Because I need to plan something special,” Eddie said. “Buck wants special. He deserves special.”
Lapsing into thoughtful silence, Christopher mused for a moment, and then his eyes lit up. “I think I know just the thing.”

“Oh my god…” Buck scrubbed one hand across his cheek as an overwhelmed, happy tear streaked down his face. His other hand was clenched tight in Eddie’s, their fingers laced together. “Yes, Eddie. Of course I will.”
“Of course he will!” Christopher cried, throwing both arms around Buck and squeezing the air out of him.
“When did you get so strong, huh?” Buck asked, patting his back. Over Christopher’s head, his eyes met Eddie’s, soft and dark and glossy with joy. “I really didn’t think you would propose tonight. Or that you’d do something so outstanding.”
“You wanted special,” Eddie murmured, reaching his free hand out and brushing his fingers over Buck’s cheek as another tumbling tear escaped. “We came up with something special, just for you.”
“Yeah we did,” Christopher said, beaming. “Did you like it, Buck?”
“I loved it,” Buck said. “It was absolutely amazing. You two are the best.”
“We know,” Christopher grinned. He wrapped one hand around the two Buck and Eddie had gripped together, squeezed for a moment and then withdrew again. “I’m gonna go play video games, now,” he said purposefully, and turned to walk away.
They both watched him go, waiting until Christopher had left the room before turning back to each other. Buck looped one arm around Eddie’s back and hauled him close enough that their bodies pressed warm together. “I fucking love you, Eddie Diaz,” Buck whispered, running his mouth along Eddie’s ear. “I can’t wait to be your husband.”
“I can’t wait either,” Eddie breathed, snaking his hand through Buck’s hair as plump lips started shifting across his neck. He tipped his head sideways, inviting deeper kisses, immediately rewarded as Buck’s mouth pressed hard against his throat.
“Let’s go to bed,” Buck mumbled against Eddie’s skin, tickling him with each soft puff of breath.
“But … Chris,” Eddie said, hesitating. “And dinner, and…”
“And bed,” Buck repeated. “Chris is giving us space. Dinner can be reheated. Bed , Eddie.”
He did not need any further convincing. “Okay,” Eddie agreed. “Bed, then.”
Taking his fiance’s hand, Eddie led the way.
