" You did it… Mr Edgeworth! " Gumshoe said, shortly interrupted by his own tears. " I-I always knew you'd get declared innocent. " Gumshoe's hands went down and he seemed to struggle to find something in his pockets, then produced a small container and proudly proclaimed: " Look! I even prepared extra confetti for today, not only for the verdict, but also for the moment you walk out as a free man! " The man was looking at him, his eyes shining for the love and honesty in his words.
" I'd normally hate to have confetti all over my clothes and hair. " Edgeworth stated in a mocking tone, Gumshoe could only look down as he was hiding the confetti back in his pocket. " But given the occasion, I suppose it's acceptable, don't you agree, Dick? " Edgeworth had thrown a nostalgic smile at him, one that brought back many memories and Gumshoe almost teared up at that moment. He hadn’t heard that man calling him Dick outside of court since that eventful night. That night had also been the last time he had smiled because of him. And yet, it was happening again.
“ I’m sorry, sir. ” Gumshoe couldn’t maintain eye contact as he was using his sleeves to rub his eyes.
“ What are you apologizing for? Everyone gave their best for me today, you went as far as sacrificing your own sleep for this moment and letting that man into the archive. ” Edgeworth steadily placed his hands against the glass separating them. Gumshoe raised his hand only to immediately drop it.
“ But sir! I assumed that your dream was the truth. I labeled you as an unfortunate murderer and gave up hope before it was all over. ” Gumshoe’s fist slammed the table as hard as he could.
“ That may be true, but that only shows how much you believed in me. I was convinced of my own acts, I knew what I was capable of, and that blind faith you had in the me you knew was what prevented you from doubting me. ” Gumshoe’s fist slowly opened and now his weren’t avoiding Edgeworth’s. ” Phoenix Wright doesn’t know the current Miles Edgeworth in the slightest. The kid he knew died in that elevator. You know my current self better than anybody else and decided to stay around when most wouldn’t ” Their hands were now on opposite sides of the glass.
“ Let’s get you out of here already, Miles. ”
“ If it’s ok with you, could we continue what we left unfinished back then? ”
“ Nothing would make me happier, sir! ”
“ The feeling is mutual, detective. ”
