The Ultimate Hope, is a girl?!

Chapter 3: Chapter 1: To Return the Favor: Daily Life part 2

Notes:

I know I'm late, AGAIN! I'm sorry! >⌓<。 I got no excuse this time, but I am getting better and faster. I will sincerely try to get the next one out faster. I PROMISE! Anyways, we continue chapter 1 and spend some free time with people. I decided to go with exploring their thoughts on the situation rather than exploring their characters since cannon does that already. I do wish we got to see more insight into their thoughts on the killing game during free time rather than just the main story, so I did it myself. I hope you enjoy! And as always, any feedback is appreciated!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

*DING DONG, BING BONG*

Makoto was woken up by the loud noise blaring into her room, the monitor in the corner awoke with life as she lifted her head with drowsy eyes. Monokuma appeared on the screen, he was holding what seemed to be a glass of wine.
“Good morning, everyone! It is now 7 A.M. and nighttime is officially over! Time to rise and shine! Get ready to greet another beee-yutiful day!”

“Ugh, it’s morning already?” Makoto said, it was hard to tell when it was morning or nighttime, it seems she will have to rely on the bear’s announcements. She didn’t get much sleep last night, with everything that happened she stayed up late trying to process it all. Dragging herself out of bed she took a shower and got ready for the day ahead. Leaving her room, she found herself interacting with Taka.

“Good morning, Taka!” she greeted.

“Ah, good morning Makoto! It’s a wonderful morning isn’t it?!”

Makoto nodded awkwardly, “I suppose you could say that.”

The moral compass laughed, “I’m glad you agree! Let’s make sure we both do our very best throughout the day!” Now if you’ll excuse me, I must start with my breakfast. I have an important diet to maintain!” He turned and walked to the dining hall with a brisk pace.

‘Is Taka always this energetic?’

She turned around and saw Hiro walking with a basket of dirty clothes. She was wondering how he could already have so much dirty laundry but then remembered that Hiro likes to wear multiple layers.

“Good morning Hiro. Are you heading over to do your laundry?”

Hiro put down the basket and looked at her, “Hey, man…Yeah that’s what I’m going to do.” He yawned loudly.

Makoto noticed just how tired Hiro looked, it was like he didn’t get any sleep at all. “Are you okay Hiro? You look totally beat.”

“Hm? Oh, I’m fine dude, thanks for asking. I’m just tired…I tried contacting the spirit world yesterday to find out why all of this is happening. It took a lot of my mental energy, but all I got were some foreboding messages about how time has been altered. You got any idea what that means?”

Contacting the spirit world, time has been altered? Makoto has heard some crazy stuff in her life…nothing like this though. Though is it a surprise since this was coming from the Ultimate Clairvoyant? Not to mention, at least to Makoto, it seemed that Hiro wasn’t all there most of the time. “No, I don’t have a clue.” she denied.

His head dropped down sadly, “Me neither man, the spirits just kept saying the same things over and over again. Like they were trying to get me to understand, but it just doesn’t make any sense.”

Whatever happened is clearly bothering Hiro, but what could she even say. Nothing he’s saying made any sense to Makoto, it sounded like pure gibberish. Though she didn’t want to say nothing, so she decided to take a shot in the dark.

“Hiro, have you thought about the idea that the spirits were trying to warn you? Like they sensed a horrible event approaching and wanted to make sure you were on your guard.” She said all of this with a finger on her chin in thought.

The look that appeared on his face was astonishing, “Woah dude! You’re a genius! You sure you’re not some secret psychic or something?”

She held out her hands defensively, “I can assure you I’m not, though I’m pretty sure she is.” She whispered the last part as a certain blue haired idol came to mind. Speaking of the idol, Makoto had yet to see her today, granted she had barely left her room and only interacted with two other people. ‘I should go and check on her.’ Bidding Hiro a farewell (it seemed he needed to continue with his ‘spirit meetings’) she rang Sayaka’s doorbell. After a few seconds her head popped out from behind the door, when she spotted Makoto her look of worry changed to one of glee.

“Good morning Makoto! I was just thinking about going and finding you. Let’s head over to breakfast shall we? I want to ask you something but I’m sure you’re famished.” Sayaka said as she left her room and closed the door.

The lucky student’s stomach rumbled, “Now that you mention it I haven’t eaten since yesterday.” They both walked to the dining hall and had some conversations with nearby students on the way there. When they arrived the range of topics they talked about were some simple things like their connection in middle school to their thoughts about the other students. Overall, Makoto was glad that Sayaka was there, having someone familiar with this environment was good for her mental health. She never had the opportunity to talk to the Ultimate Idol so while it may be a crazy situation their all in, she can finally get to know her better. They both went their separate ways after eating, Sayaka said something about needed some time to think about her dream. Makoto didn’t ask for details, but there was a certain look in her eyes that worried the luckster. She decided not to dwell on it however and started to walk around the school aimlessly.

Eventually she encountered Hifumi in one of the classrooms, he was sitting at one of the desks drawing in a notebook. There was a look of longing on his face as he drew, it made Makoto feel sad when she saw him, as if she had the same emotions somewhere deep inside.

“Hey Hifumi, I didn’t see you at breakfast this morning.” Makoto said. But Hifumi didn’t respond he just merely kept drawing. This prompted her to tap him on the back, “Hifumi…,” another tap, “Hifumi…,” a tap once again, “HIFUMI!” She screamed.

“Wah!” The fanfic creator fell out of his seat in shock causing the ground to shake a little. Fixing his glasses, he looked up with fear until his eyes set upon the ahoge. “M-Mr. Naegi?! What’s going on here?”

“Sorry Hifumi I wasn’t trying to scare you, just get your attention.”

He let out a breath he was holding in and stood up, “Don’t scare me like that, you could’ve just tapped me on the back you know.” He then crossed his arms angrily, “So what did you need?”

“You seemed like you were sad and lost in thought. I was worried since I didn’t see you at breakfast, is everything alright?”

“Sadly Mr. Naegi,” Hifumi sighed, “Nothing feels right lately, ever since I entered this school it’s been shock after shock. We’re trapped inside of Hopes Peak, the best school in the country, with the only out is to kill another. All of this according to a probably stuffed black and white robot bear. This all feels like it’s something out of a poorly written anime, no excitement, no drama, all just terribly written tension.”

‘I don’t think I want any excitement or drama. I like the way it is now.’ Makoto thought grimly.

The fanfic writer then sat back down in his seat slowly caressing his notebook, “It doesn’t help that my inspiration has been all over the place. I can’t even draw my princess right.” Makoto took a look over his shoulder at the notebook and saw it was just a random collection of lines. There was no organization, only an abstract artist would be able to take anything away from it. “I was handling everything fine at first, until the end of the meeting yesterday. I can’t get what Celeste said out of my head.”

‘Everything was fine until the end of the meeting yesterday. Does he mean…’ She thought trying to connect the dots.

“Do you mean adaptability?” The luckster asked for clarification.

He nodded, “Yes…adaptability. Celeste says the easiest way to survive is to adapt to our new lives here, but it’s not that easy. Maybe if I could adapt and evolve like Shin Godzilla none of this would be bothering me.”

Makoto was confused, “Why would adaptability bother you though?”

Hifumi scoffed, “It’s obvious really, but it seems you don’t understand, so let me educate you. As the Ultimate Fanfic Creator, I have a schedule to meet and fans to please. If I’m off by even one day then catastrophe will strike! First it will be complaints left in the comments of my work, then it will be personal emails asking why I haven’t updated, then riots in the streets, then…” He kept on rambling about the consequences of missing his due dates. It all seemed like exaggeration but with the tone Hifumi had, Makoto couldn’t help but wonder if it was all true.

“I am doing this for the world’s sake Mr. Naegi, as well as mine. However, being trapped in a place like this with no way out and no connection to the internet?! Doom is coming Mr. Naegi and with no way to update any of my stories my creativity is falling to pieces. I simply cannot adapt to a life like this!”

It felt wrong to think but listening to all of this made Makoto feel at ease. It was reassuring to see that this whole situation wasn’t only impacting her. All of them have lives and responsibilities outside of Hopes Peak, so being stuck here is causing all sorts of problems.

‘Seeing Hifumi like this is depressing, I don’t have anything I love doing like he does, but I can imagine how this affecting him. There has to be something I can do to help…Wait! I know!’

“If you can’t post on time, then why don’t you start gathering together updates? So, when we get out of here you can update everything at once, I know your fans won’t be complaining then.” She said with a smile.

His eyes lit up as he processed the Ultimate’s words, “Gather together updates? Why that’s a genius idea Mr. Naegi!” He then visibly deflated, “But even with that great idea, it’s still impossible. For my creativity is gone!”

“Hm, your creativity is gone?” She repeated. “Then tell me about your fanfictions. I may not be creative but I’m sure I can help you come up with some ideas.”

“Huh? You want me to tell you about my fanfictions? Really?!” His face then gained a smug look and Makoto swore she saw steam come out of his nose, “Then prepare for the tale of my glory! To tell it properly I must start from the beginning, there was a beautiful anime named Demon Angel☆Pretty Pudgy Princess…”

From then on Hifumi talked about his stories and everything about them. How he got into them, what they’re based on, who’s in them, and so on. Makoto listened for hours chiming in now and then with her thoughts or similar stories that she’s read. As they talked Hifumi grew increasingly relaxed and he even started drawing pictures of his favorite characters to show the luckster, some more adult than the others were. Eventually, hours passed by. Makoto felt like she grew a lot closer to the Fanfic creator, he had a lot of talent, and she was happy to see him back to his normal self.

“Ooooh! This is awesome Mr. Naegi! The ideas are all coming together right now, I’m going to need some time alone to get them all on paper. So, if you’ll excuse me.”

Makoto stood up, “Of course Hifumi good luck!” But before she left she had one last thing to say, “Oh and Hifumi?”

“Yes Mr. Naegi?”

“It’s actually Ms. Naegi.”

The look that appeared on his face will be one that Makoto will remember for the rest of her life. It was like he had seen a ghost fly out of his body, there was no better way to describe it. Laughing, the luckster left the scene, there was a lot on her mind, but her most recent conversation was able to help her relax. Though as she was going over it in her mind there was one part that still baffled her. Adaptability…why did Celeste saying that affect the Ultimate Fanfic creator so much? He already explained why it did, but Makoto had a feeling it wasn’t the full story. As she was walking around, however, she came across the person who startled so many people yesterday.

“Good afternoon Makoto, how has your day been so far? You look tired.” the gambler smiled.

“Hi Celeste…I just finished talking with Hifumi about his stories.”

“Hm, that would do it, listening to that pig ramble on and on would tire me out as well.” Celeste said swinging one of her pigtails around.

Pig? It seemed Celeste’s opinion of Hifumi wasn’t a positive one. Although now that she was here Makoto could ask something that’s been on her mind for a while. “Say Celeste, do you mind explaining more about that adaptability thing you mentioned yesterday?”

The gambler’s smile didn’t leave yet there was a look in her eyes that worried Makoto. “Oh? Are you interested in my full proof strategy for survival?”

‘Why did she say it like that? Did she say that with sarcasm? I can’t tell.’ The lucky student thought confoundingly.

“S-Sure let’s go with that.”

“If you recall, I said a lack of adaptability is a lack of survivability. However, that’s not completely true, a person can survive without adapting if they’re strong enough. But no amount of strength can match up to adaptability, they aren’t even in the same league.”

“What do you mean? How is adaptability better than strength?”

“Let me put it like this, imagine you and Mondo got into a fight. In any normal circumstance you would lose correct?” Makoto nodded. “His strength is clearly greater than yours but let’s say you had a weapon on you like a knife. Then it helps even the playing field, adaptability is using the things around you to your advantage. The environment is a huge example of how someone can adapt to survive.”

Makoto’s skin was a little pale from the examples Celeste was using, were these the things she normally thought about?

The Ultimate Gambler giggled, “Don’t worry Makoto, those were just examples. The adaptability that I mentioned merely meant to let go of the outside world.”

“Let go of the outside world?”

Celeste shook her head, “My aren’t you dense. By letting go of the outside world you would have no need to get out of this place, therefore no need to murder anybody.”

“What?! How can you expect anyone to be able to do that? We all have families or friends out there waiting for us.”

“See? That right there is the issue, it’s what you need to adapt to.” She then gained a dark look on her face, “Forget about your family and friends, or anything out there in the world.”

“No! I refuse!” Makoto put her hand on her chest, “Forget my family? I love them far too much to do that!”

Celeste scoffed, “Then you won’t survive. You’re far too frail to not adapt to a place like this, who knows what people are thinking here. They may just focus on the outside world like you are now and commit murder to get back out there.”

The luckster recoiled, “Y-You don’t know that. No one would commit murder just to escape.”

“It seems debating with you is pointless, I will be taking my leave now. It was nice talking to you.” She then turned and left with the same elegance as yesterday.

After she was gone it took Makoto a few moments to fix herself, all that talk about adaptability, survival, and murder left her concerned. She now understood why Hifumi felt the way that he did.

It was nearing dinner time and Makoto was famished. She made her way to the dining hall to get something to eat. When she arrived, there were people scattered about some were talking with other people while others like Byakuya and Kyoko stayed at their own individual tables. Makoto grabbed her food and sat down to eat which led to her table becoming full. A bunch of people saw her take a seat and went over to join her. Half the class were sitting together eating and discussing anything that came to mind. Taka and Mondo were arguing while Hina tried to keep the peace. Sakura was trying to convince Leon not to give up on baseball and pursue his talent. Junko and Sayaka were talking about the world of fashion and what outfits Makoto would look good in (much to her embarrassment). Hiro and Hifumi were discussing the idea of robotic aliens, even going as far to insist that they’ve already invaded. The sight of everyone brought a smile to Makoto’s face, seeing all of them act as friends and no malicious intent behind anything. She sincerely hoped things stayed this way. Soon Makoto finished and decided to head off to bed, she said her goodbyes and left.

The next morning came quickly and with the morning announcement Makoto developed a knot in her stomach. A dark feeling came to her that morning along with thoughts of everyone else, she decided to ignore it and was going to make her way to the dining hall. However, the second she opened her door she saw Taka standing outside her room. He declared that every morning from now on they should meet up together for a meeting and swiftly left to inform the others.

When the morning meeting started it was just everyone stating that they’d found no way out yet. Celeste continued to bring up adaptability to everyone and Chihiro brought up a great point. What if the person keeping them all locked up was a psychopath like Genocide Jack? The class went back and forth with each other discussing different possibilities, until a certain bear made an appearance.

“All this talk about psychopaths and serial killers has got my brain thinking.”

A few of the students jumped in fear at Monokuma’s sudden arrival making exclamations of surprise or shock.

Byakuya glared at the ursine, “What are you doing here?”

Ignoring his question Monokuma continued his rant, “Genocide Jack, Jack the Ripper, Johann “Jack” Unterweger. All of them are named Jack in some way, but what brings them all together? So many possibilities, it’s all beary interesting!”

“What the fuck are you talking about?!” yelled Mondo.

“What makes a serial killer, serial anyways? The number of victims? The way they’re murdered? The time in between each kill? Or is it the motive? Puhuhuhuhu!”

“J-Just sh-shut up a-already!” shouted Toko.

He then put his paws on his belly, “Anyways, that’s not what I’m here to talk about. What I’m here to talk about is…why has no one been murdered?! A few days have passed, and no one wants to get out, seriously? And here I thought high schoolers hated being in school. You’re all so boring!” He said that last part with his paws in the air and an angry look.

“There is nothing you can say that will get us to start killing each other!” Makoto said with a few of his classmates nodding in agreement.

“Nothing I can say? Hm? Oh! I have the perfect idea! Instead of telling you, I’ll just show you! Thanks for the idea Makoto.”

“Wh-What are you talking about?!” The lucky student fearfully asked.

“Let’s just say it’s a video of what’s going on in the outside world, a motive. There’s a special room in this place where you can watch videos after all.”

Kyoko nodded, “Good, then we can watch the video right now. But before we do that, I would like to know. What are you? Why would you do something like this? What do you want from us?”

“What do I want from you…? Finally, an easy question. One with a simple answer…despair, that’s all. I want to see you all suffer and tremble before me. If you want to learn why then go ahead and discover the mystery hidden in this school. I won’t try and stop you.” The bear said all of this with a menacing tone before he left. The room was horrified, their ‘headmaster’ was truly a psychopath.

Sayaka broke the silence with a sigh, “He’s gone… and once again, he left before we could get anything useful.”

“You think so? We learned something very useful in fact. He has no intention of standing in the way of our pursuit of the truth. Interesting…”

“Perhaps, but what about the video he mentioned? I’m very curious to see what’s on it.” Sakura said crossing her arms.

Celeste put her hands under her chin and flashed a smile towards the luckster, “I am as well. Makoto be a dear and go check it out for us.”

Makoto was flabbergasted, “What?! Me?!”

“You were the one who gave him the idea weren’t you? It’s only fair you should go and check it out.” said Leon.

‘I wasn’t trying to give him any ideas though…’ She thought sadly. “Well, if you say so.”

“If Makoto’s going then so am I, it’s not safe to go alone” declared the idol.

Leaving the dining hall, the two of them found the audio and video room. When they entered there was a box of videos labeled for each person.

“I guess these must be the motive Monokuma was talking about.” Makoto said picking up her video.

“I have a real bad feeling about this Makoto, we should go tell the others.” Sayaka said shakingly before she ran out of the room towards the dining hall.

Makoto watched as Sayaka left and looked at the video in her hand, “Well if this has information about what’s going on in the outside world then I have to watch it.” Inserting the video into the player she watched as her family came on the screen. Her family was congratulating her on her acceptance to Hopes Peak Academy. It was a heartwarming message that filled Makoto with hope and glee. That was until the scene became a disaster, it seemed like a rampaging tornado swept through the room and endangered her family. Finally, the screen went dark and the only thing that was left was a grisly message, ‘Look for the answer after graduation!’. The others soon arrived and began to watch their own videos, sounds of horror and terror filled the room shortly after.
“Wh-What the fuck!” Leon screamed.

“T-This is utterly impossible!” cried Hifumi.

“Why the hell is this happening!” Hina yelled.

“W-Were the spirts onto something after all?!” Hiro shouted.

Chihiro was merely crying her eyes out as Taka sat next to her horrified.

Kyoko and Celeste began to explain how this was meant to serve as a motive, a reason to fill everyone with the desire to kill and escape. Sayaka then ran out of the room in fear and everyone else decided they wanted to be alone for the rest of the day. However, Makoto couldn’t let her friend be alone, especially after the way she reacted.

Makoto found her in a random classroom sitting in the corner of the room, hands on her knees, and gaze kept on the ground.

There was a worried look on the luckster’s face, “S-Sayaka are you okay?”

“Am I…okay?” Her head shot up, “Of course I’m not okay! Why is this happening to us…? Why are they doing such terrible things to us…? I want out! Let me out of here right now!” Sayaka screamed at the top of her lungs.

The luckster put a hand on her shoulder, “Sayaka! Calm down! We need to think rationally about this…I’m worried about my family. I don’t know what happened to them and I want to go find out. But that’s exactly what they want, they want us to freak out and lose our composure! We can’t let them win! If those things really did happen wouldn’t everyone be in an uproar? We need to work together so we can find some way out of here. Or survive until help arrives.”

“But…what if there isn’t a way out? What if help never comes?” the idol said with a tone of despair that matched the look on her face.

“If that happens…then I’ll get you out of here myself! No matter what it takes!” A look of hope and determination filled Makoto’s eyes.

After she said that Sayaka broke down crying in Makoto’s chest, it seemed things were going to be okay. Makoto’s promise, filled with sincerity, got through to Sayaka and broke her out of her stupor. They were having a touching moment until the bear made his appearance once again.

“Ugh! What is it with you two and this sappiness! It makes me want to puke!”

The singer glared at Monokuma, “What do you want now?! Just leave us alone!”

“You two being all happy dappy is getting on my nerves, and I want it to stop!" He then put a paw on this chin and went into deep thought, "Wait…” the bear then went on rambling to himself about the potential ratings this could bring. Towards the end of it he whispered something about the ‘betrayal’ adding flavor and tension to the show. Although, Makoto wasn’t completely sure about what he was talking about. “You know what, keep being happy dappy will ya? Do it for me.” Monokuma let out a cutesy pose before leaving.

“What just happened?” Sayaka asked.

“I think he just wanted to ruin the moment, lets just forget this happened.” The idol simply nodded in agreement.

They went back to the dorms and decided to try to relax for the rest of the day. Makoto let the others know that Sayaka was alright and stayed in her room thinking to herself. These past few days have been too hectic for her and now that the over looming feeling of paranoia had returned to everyone, no one was willing to talk to each other for too long. The only person that could really be seen up and about was Celeste who was calm as ever. Speaking of Celeste, what she said about letting go of the outside world didn’t sound like crazy talk right now. The next thing Makoto knew was she could hear her doorbell ringing, it was near 10 o’clock at night.

“I must have fallen asleep on accident, it’s almost nighttime, so why is someone here?”

Opening the door Makoto stepped back as Sayaka rapidly came in closing the door behind her. Her body was trembling, and she was taking deep breaths to try to calm herself down.

“Sayaka? What’s going on? What are you doing out so late?” worriedness filled Makoto’s tone.

“Sorry to bother you, but… something really weird just happened.”

“Something…weird?”

“Just a little while ago, I was laying down in my room… and all of a sudden, my door started rattling and shaking.” The fear in Sayaka’s voice was genuine, just hearing her speak was enough to make Makoto queasy.

“It was like someone was trying to force the door open. My door was locked, so they couldn’t get in, of course. But they started shaking the door harder and harder. I was so scared I couldn’t even move. Then, after a while, it just…stopped. I let some time go by, then I got up and opened the door to check outside. But nobody was there.”

“Someone tried to force their way into your room…? But…who would do something like that?” Makoto said confused.

“It’s not that I’m suspicious of anyone here, but still…it makes me nervous. What if something like that happened in the middle of the night? What would I do then?”

“You don’t have to worry about that, right? I mean, we can’t go out during nighttime.”

Sayaka shook her head, “But that’s just a promise we made, what if someone decided to break that promise…”

That was something Makoto never realized, going out at nighttime was never a rule, it was something they all verbally agreed upon. No one was under any obligation to follow that ‘rule’ (except for Taka and maybe Sakura).

“Th-Then…why don’t you stay in my room tonight?” Makoto suggested. “Would that make you feel better?”

“What?!” the idol asked shocked.

“All it said in the school regulations was that we had to sleep in “the dorm rooms”, right? It didn’t state you have to sleep in the room that’s designated to you. So…”

“B-But…two people sharing one room is…you know…”

Makoto shrugged, “What’s the problem? Were both girls you know, there’s nothing weird about it.”

“I guess if you put it that way…”

The Ultimate lucky student could’ve sworn she saw a flash of disappointment cross the idol’s face.

A friendly smile entered Makoto’s face, “It will be fine Sayaka, if someone was trying to hurt you, they’ll think you’ll still be in your room, not mine.”

The singer merely nodded, and they got ready to go to bed, though Makoto saw a sharp object come out of Sayaka’s sleeve from the corner of her eye.

“Hey Sayaka, what was that?”

The idol’s face perked up with a small smile, “What was what Makoto?”

“That thing you just pulled out of your sleeve.”

“What thing? Was there something in my sleeve?” Sayaka said shaking her sleeves to emphasize that they were empty.

“I guess not…”

Sayaka chuckled, “Geez Makoto, your being awfully weird right now.”

Deciding to let it go, Makoto turned off the lights and went to lie on her makeshift bed she made on the floor (Makoto let Sayaka sleep in the bed since she was her guest). Some time passed and Makoto could hear Sayaka shifting in the bed constantly, after a while it stopped, and silence filled the room. Makoto nearly fell asleep before she heard Sayaka speak up, “Makoto, are you awake?”

“Yeah…what’s up?” Makoto yawned out.

“Can I ask you a question?”

“Anything Sayaka.”

“Have you ever almost done something, but before you can, you have time to think about it… And you manage to convince yourself that it wasn’t worth doing in the first place?”

“No, I can’t say I have…”

‘Sayaka sounds super worried about something, was it what happened before? Or did something new happen?’ Makoto thought to herself.

“No nothing new happened.” Sayaka responded.

“Huh? Did I say that out loud?” Makoto said with a tone of surprise.

“No silly, I’m psychic!”

A look of confusion was in Makoto’s face (she felt like she’s been more confused these past few days than in her entire life).

“Kidding! I just have good intuition!” the singer said happily.

Makoto smiled and let out a small giggle as well, it seemed Sayaka has gone back to normal. Soon her giggling caused both of them to erupt into full blown laughter, it was only a small joke, but it was something they both needed right now. Memories of the day before seemed to fade away as they both laughed. Then all of a sudden, Makoto’s doorbell went off.

*Ding Dong*

It went off again.

*Ding Dong*

And again, and again, and again.

*Ding Dong* *Ding Dong* *Ding Dong*

Makoto stood up and went to open the door.

“Makoto wait!” Sayaka yelled but by the time she did Makoto had already opened the door. Fear struck Makoto as she did this, the laughter before had made her completely forget about the person who tried to break into Sayaka’s room. What if this was the same person? What if they were about to try and kill Makoto right now?

All of this was for naught however, for when she opened the door she saw Mondo standing there with a look of pure unadulterated horror.

“M-Makoto! Y-You have to come see this! S-Someone…t-they…f-fuck!”

Sayaka got out of the bed and walked to Makoto’s side, “What’s going on?”

“S-Sayaka?” Mondo’s eyes widened, “It doesn’t matter! Just hurry the fuck up and come one!” He motioned for them to follow him as he rushed down the hall towards the bathrooms. Makoto went to follow him, but Sayaka quickly grabbed her hand.

“Wait! What if it’s a trap?”

“A trap?” Makoto turned to look at her with a reassuring smile, “Its Mondo, Sayaka. I feel like I can trust him, he won’t hit a girl after all. There’s no way he would kill one.”

“I have a real bad feeling about this Makoto, you know how I said I was psychic?” Makoto nodded, “That was a joke, I’m just really perceptive and my instincts are telling me to stay away.”

Makoto squeezed her hand, “It will be okay Sayaka, Mondo won’t hurt us, I’m sure of it.”

Sayaka let out a humph, “You are way too trusting Makoto…”

They followed Mondo, he was standing just outside the men’s bathroom as he pointed inside. “L-Look in there!”

As they got close a putrid smell overwhelmed the two of them, nothing that happened in their lives could’ve prepared them for what they were about to see. Something shocking…something horrifying…something…that would fill them with despair. There laying on the floor in the bathroom was one of their classmates who stayed perfectly still. At first it was hard to recognize who it was, but once they saw the clothing it became apparent. It was Celeste, she was lying with her back against the wall on top of a puddle of water. Her eyes were completely devoid of life and a look of fright was strewn across her face.

Notes:

Well there you go, someone has been murdered! \(๑•́o•̀๑)/ I tried not to make it obvious who would be first but I did leave a few hints scattered around. Is something going on with Sayaka as well (Well who knows 乁( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ㄏ) In the next chapter we will be doing the investigation, I'll try to get it all done in the next one too. So, look forward to that. Oh, and I won't be pulling any punches, because with Danganronpa, there is a billion red herrings in each murder as well as plot twists everywhere. Anyone who can guess the murderer and why, will get a cookie though!

Notes:

If you made it this far, then I just want to say thank you. You reading this means a lot to me; I hope you liked it and choose to stick around as I develop this story, I know a lot of this chapter was just normal Danganronpa, but Makoto's gender wouldn't really affect the prologue. The later chapters however, it changes a lot, so please bear with me. I don't know the timeline for when I'll upload, but I will try to aim for once every three weeks, can give no promises though. But do know that I won't take longer than a month for any update, unless an emergency happens.
