Chapter Text
January 7th, 1977
A fact not everyone knows about Lily, is that she’d do everything for her friends. From passing his homework answers to taking a bullet, if you’re Lily’s friend she’ll do anything for you.
That’s why she’s currently in the Slytherin common room at a party with Mary, Marlene and the boys.
Lily hates parties, everybody knows that. But Pandora asked her to come, so here she is.
They arrived ten minutes ago, and everybody has drunk at least two cups. In fact, Lily noticed how Sirius is already drunk, they can’t hold their liquor even if they tried to.
About thirty minutes before they got to the party, Lily witnessed one of the reasons why she hates them. She lost sight of Mary and Marlene and was trying to find them, when this guy approached her and started to flirt with her. It wasn’t a secret that she’s a lesbian, but it’s not like she’s a very popular person around Hogwarts, so not everyone is aware of who she’s.
After she cleared things with the guy and gave up trying to find her friends she decided to find a bathroom to hide for a while. That’s when she went into a dorm where two half dressed boys were making out.
“Hey, get out!” one of the boys shouted at her.
“Sorry!” She apologized as she closed the door, then exclaimed in disgust. “Ugh!”
Horny teenagers are definitely another of her reasons why she hates parties. It’s not like she absolutely hates sex, she thinks it’s actually pretty nice in theory. Now in action is a completely different thing. She can read the dirtiest sex scene in the world, and think about it but she could never do it or watch it.
It’s a bit weird that she doesn’t have a problem with that, it still is a thing she cannot do. But when she realized that sex wasn't something she was required to do, the only thing she felt was relief.
She kept walking on people, until she opened the door to a dorm that’s empty. It wasn’t a bathroom but it could work for hiding. She closed the door and dropped onto the nearest bed when she heard the bathroom door open.
“What the hell are you doing here, Evans?” Dorcas asked her, she was wearing a pyjama set.
“Sorry, I was looking for the bathroom and I kept walking on people, then I found this empty dorm, well now I see it’s clearly not empty so I saw it and decided to stop by and…”
“And then decided to plop down into the bed of a stranger?” he cut her off and Lily realized she’s rambling. Why was Dorcas making her nervous all of the sudden?
“Yeah, basically,” she answered. Dorcas glared at her like she just said the most ridiculous thing she ever heard, and to be honest Lily did sound pretty ridiculous. “Okay, yeah i know it sounds stupid”
“I never said it was”
“Yeah, but you looked at me like it was”
“I didn’t”
“Yes, you did,” Lily insisted.
“No, I” she stopped herself, knowing it was pointless. If Lily and Dorcas wanted to, they could argue for hours. “I just don’t believe you”
“Fine, I'm hiding” Lily finally said, defeated.
“From who?” Dorcas asked.
“Everyone”
“Why?”
“Why do you want to know so bad? It’s not like we’re friends or something”
“I’m pretty sure we’re quite the opposite, but my mortal enemy has invaded my room and lay down in my bed,” Dorcas explained. “I want to know why”
“Mortal enemy is an exaggeration, i don’t think enough about you to even have the idea”
“Oh, so you think about me”
“They’re just hate thoughts, don't flatter yourself”
Silence filled the room. It wasn’t uncomfortable, it was just weird that they stayed in each other's presence long enough to stop insulting each other.
“I hate parties,” Lily finally said.
“Why?” Dorcas asked, sitting in the bed in front of her.
“I just don’t like dancing,” Lily answered. “Well actually i suck at it, like it’s embarrassing,” She didn’t know why she was saying this to Dorcas of all people. “I don’t drink because i barely have control of myself and i’m scared of it so I always end up alone drinking Coke in a corner because i know my friends do like all of that and i don’t want to ruin the party for them”
So that was it, the last and most important reason.
“That’s why you hate me”
“What?”
“Because I'm as bright as you, as smart as you,” Dorcas explained. “You don’t have fully control to be the best student in the class if i’m there, that’s why you hate me so bad”
Dorcas didn’t asked it, she affirmed it. He read Lily like an open book, and figured out a truth that she wasn’t even aware of.
“Not at the beginning” Lily tried to act like Dorcas just made a big revelation about her. “I actually thought you hated me”
“Me, why?”
“Because in third year i tried to sit with you on potions class, you were so cold with me and then Minnie ‘warned me’ that we were both at the top of the class, so i thought you already knew hence why you treated me like that”
“You thought I knew?” Dorcas looked stunned. “And I'm sorry, who is Minnie?”
“Oh, sorry, I mean Mcgonagall, most of the Gryffindors in my year call her that” Lily said laughing. “And yes i thought you did”
“I didn’t,” To Lily’s surprise she believes him. “I was thinking you wanted to take Dora’s place to embarrass her, people treated them like shit that year”
“That’s why you’re so cold to me”
“Yeah, of course then i realized you two were friends and that weren’t your intentions but i wasn’t really into making friends mood that year”
“Are you ever in a making friends mood?” Lily joked, glad that Dorcas laughed at it.
“Oh, that’s a good one, Evans”
“Thank you, thank you” Lily said, faking a bow. Which made Dorcas and her laugh again.
“Can I ask you something?” Lily asked when the laughing faded.
“Yeah, I think it’s fair after I quite interrogated you”
“Why aren’t you at the party?”
“I have a game to win tomorrow, just in case you forget, spy”
“Oh, yeah, no I remember,” Lily lied.
“That was as fake as when you told me you’re spying for the Gryffindor Quidditch team”
“Okay, okay, you got me,” she said. “I don’t give a fuck about Quidditch”
“Oh, I know,” Dorcas laughed. “That’s why i’m trusting you with this top secret information”
“Spill the tea, Meadowes”
“I have not fully recovered,” Dorcas' tone was serious again. “I mean my arm is not broken anymore, but i have to still be careful, a bad hit could broke it all again”
“That…” Is very unexpected for Lily, but so is this whole interaction. “sucks, i’m sorry”
“Don’t worry, it’s not your fault elbows are fucking sensitives”
“Yeah, fucking elbows” Lily said. “Wait, how do the fuck you broke your elbow?”
“I don’t know” Dorcas said and they both started laughing.
“Because, I mean if you fall you put your hands first”
“I was carrying things okay,” Dorcas tried to defend herself. “It wasn’t my fault the floor was wet”
It wasn’t even that funny, but for some reason they couldn’t stop laughing. In that state and without noticing it, Lily’s body moved closer to Dorcas’ to the point their faces were mere inches apart.
Suddenly the laughing stopped and they just stayed there, looking at each other, breathing each other's air.
“I should probably go, my friends might be looking for me,'' Lily pulled back first.
“Yeah, good luck finding them”
“Thank you,” she got up, headed to the door but before she could reach it she stopped and turned around. “Hey Dorcas”
“Yes?”
“You weren’t so bad after all,” she smiled.
“Neither are you, Lily”
