Chapter Text
consider, then, the snigglette,
if that's a thought the lords will let,
who snigs about her snoozle town
yet never seems to dig it down
because she fears the freamy frown
- i was thinking about "how doth the busy little bee"/ "how doth the little crocodile" from alice in wonderland.
- i also like starting in the middle of things, like this is the continuation of a previous or ongoing conversation
- "dowse" sounds like "douse" and "drowsy", and it means to discover something with dowsing, a kind of magic
- sometimes a nonsense word is just a nonsense word, like here with *snig. i wanted a word that started in sn- to go with snoozle. you could also parse it as a sniggle being someone who *snigs. (addendum: later i learned that a snig is an eel.)
- sometimes a nonsense word is a combination of existing words. *freamy is "fearful" and "dreamy"
- "think about snigglette and her song."
or if you'd rather thwip that thought
toward a certain snigglelot,
then ponder if, perchance, the train
he bids her on is bore and bane
with naught to give or geil or gain
- *thwip (from which is also derived the later *thwep) is from a bdg unraveled video about bowser's military hierarchy.
- an earlier version also included *whimps and *whomps but they got cut out
- "certain" is doing double duty here as both "a specific snigglelot" and "a snigglelot who is sure"
- "geil" is german slang for "cool" or "awesome"
- "if you'd rather think about snigglelot, ask yourself if he doesn't want her to go on the train because it's leading to an empty or otherwise negative place"
but if the tracks do dest to ne
is fact afuzzed to you and me
in fuggy, floozy, hushing holes
where willy have the whoozle woles
with words will had, for fooly foles
- *dest sounds like "jest", and ne is a neopronoun; "if the tracks are just a joke to someone"
- but actually it's "destiny", i.e. if the train (which is on the tracks) lead to snigglette's destiny
- but that's unknowable ("fact a-fuzzed") to us
- the poem gets more nonsensical when the reader ventures into forbidden knowledge, such as where the tracks go
- your brain can't process this information so i made nonsense words
- *fuggy is "fucked-up" and "foggy"
- *floozy is "fluid" and "woozy"; also a floozie is a vulgar or promiscuous woman
- *hushing holes are where you go to be silenced
- "willy have"/"will had" is me trying to do past and future tense at once, with the future as an adverb modifying the past
- "words will be had"; someone is going to get mad and tell you off
so cast your childish cap instead
on baermie fed on faerie bread
and leave the land of locky lines
to load the lippy tinny tines
and don't you mind the menny mines
- "cast your childish cap" ie turn your silly baby head/brain to other things
- "barmy" means silly or thoughtless, here it's used as a noun that means nonsense
- it also comes from barm, which is sort of like sourdough starter; bakers would toss extra bits of dough into a "barm tub" and let it ferment to make leavening for bread
- so when you eat the nonsense, it turns you into a sniggle
- the lippy tinny tines are a fork (the individual prongs of a fork are called tines)
- "*menny mines" are deep holes where humans are thrown into
in sooth, your tooth must meller meets
not newts and nuts, but shuts and sweets
and when you're eyes and tongue at last
the spilly spell we'll telly cast
‘til fluff and feathers fill you fast
- "sooth" means truth, like soothsayer.
- "meller" is from latin melior, better
- "the truth is it's better if you eat nice things and shut up"
- "telly cast" is telecast, because the sniggles are digital and this poem is too
- "fast" is also doing double duty here as both "quickly" and "firmly" (as in the phrase "stuck fast")
cosnider that your sniggling
and with what words you'll snig and sing
and lace the place you'll pace and lair
while in the trancey dance out there
with tennies you will wish to tear
- "*cosnider" is not a typo. i wanted another word with a -sn- in it
- i wanted to put snig and sing next to each other bc they're anagrams
- the sniggles are in a "trancey dance" when they're under the control of the lords in black
- "tennies" is short for antennae
- "think about how you're turning into a sniggle now, and what songs you're going to sing in the black and white as your antennae grow in"
dort ab the ovo squad the mall
the other sads will see it all
so half asweb is better still
to sweve and serve the five until
the whoozles boozle to their will
- "dort" is german for "there"
- "ab ovo usque ad mala" is latin for "from the egg to the apples"; it means from the first course of a meal to the last
- sad is used here as a noun
- "asweb" means "asleep"
- "(a)sweve" means to stupefy or to put to sleep
- "the other sad sniggles will see everything, so it's better to dissociate and obey the lords without question"
consider then, there's nothing left
to thwip or thwep betreff the theft
for though the lords naquaugh yon pense
quod every rat fassendience
somehow the words make perfect sense
- betreff is german for "reference", as in "in reference to (the theft)"
- so "there's nothing left to think about regarding the theft (of your essence as a person)"
- *naquaugh is "nakaw", tagalog for "to steal"
- *yon is "iyong", tagalog for "your"; your pense is your thoughts
- "quod erat faciendum" is latin for "which had to be done", it marks the end of a geometric construction, the same way this line is marking the end of the creation of a new sniggle
- and that's why you can understand the final line
