“Oh my god Lexi, look!”
Ness follows his excited boyfriend towards some bushes, confused as to why Isagi suddenly strayed from their usual running path. He watches his boyfriend squat in front of the bushes and coo at whatever he’s looking at. Ness squats down next to him and his eyes widen at the sight before them.
Two cats are nestled between the branches of the bush. One cat is fluffy, with brown hair, dark blue eyes, and a scowl on it’s face, It’s bigger than the black cat sleeping next to it. Isagi coos again and slowly reaches a hand out towards the brown cat. The fluffy mass immediately hisses and swipes a paw at Isagi. The blue haired boy pulls his hand back and pouts.
“Aw, I just wanted to pet them…”
“The brown one looks like it doesn’t want to be pet. It kinda looks like it’s ready to kill you.”
The cat growls just as he says that. Ness glares at the cat, and the cat simply glares back.
Suddenly, the black cat stretches and opens its eyes. The brown cat ends its staring contest with Ness to look at the black cat. The brown cats killer look turns softer as it meows and starts licking the black cats head. Black cat meows and purrs, leaning into brown cats tongue, happy to be groomed.
The black cat lets itself be groomed for a few minutes before it turns its head towards Ness and Isagi. Unlike brown cat, black cat meows loudly and stands up, heading towards Isagi with no hesitation or fear present in its stride. Isagi coos as the cat bumps its head against his knee. He reaches down to pet the black cat, causing the brown cat to hiss in protest.
“This one is so friendly,” Isagi says. Black cat meows and rubs the side of its body against Isagi’s leg. Brown cat mewls. “I don’t think your friend is too happy with you coming near me.”
On cue, the brown cat mewls again and hisses at Isagi. It runs up to him and swipes at the hand petting the black cat. Isagi immediately moves his hand away, and black cat whines at the lack of petting. Ness glares at the aggressive cat and walks over to it. Brown cat mewls loudly as Ness quickly picks it up by its scruff, stopping it from attacking them again. “Calm down you stupid fleabag. Can’t you see Yoichi is being nice to your little friend?”
Brown cat just hisses and struggles in his grip.
“Lexi, be careful!”
“He started it,” Ness frowns. Suddenly, the black cat hisses at him. Ness rolls his eyes and lets the brown cat go. Black cat meows and walks over to brown cat, brushing up against him. Isagi chuckles at the two.
“You know, they kind of remind me of us.”
“Us?”
“Yeah, like-“ Isagi points at the brown cat, “-that one is like you. Mean and defensive towards everyone but the black cat, who is like me.”
“I’m not that mean!”
“You wanted to kill me for the first few months we knew each other.”
“Well- I mean-“
Brown cat hisses again and stands in front of black cat, who just sits down and looks at them with big, green eyes. Isagi looks up at Ness. Ness huffs and crosses his arms.
“I still don’t see it.”
“He even looks like you, minus the purple of course! Fluffy and brown!”
Isagi turns back to the cats and coos. Brown cat doesn’t react, while black cat tilts his head in interest. “Their size difference even matches too! So cute~”
Isagi stands up and waves at the two cats. “Bye Lexicat and Yoicat. It was nice meeting you two!”
“No it wasn’t.”
Isagi glares at him. “You’re just mad that Yoicat came to me.”
“I’m really not.”
“Whatever,” Isagi rolls his eyes, “lets just start running again.”
Ness sighs but follows his boyfriend as he returns to his light jog. They’re only a few steps away from the bush when they hear a loud mewl behind them. Isagi pauses first, causing Ness to pause as well. The black cat runs up to Isagi and, once its in front of him, places its front paws on his thigh. It meows loudly and looks up at Isagi, who stares back in awe. Isagi smiles brightly and looks at Ness.
Oh no.
“No.”
“But Lexi-“
“Yoichi, you know we can’t have any pets! Our careers are too demanding for them.”
“We can figure something out,” Isagi pouts. Black cat meows, as if he’s agreeing with him. “There’s two of them, so they won’t be alone while we practice! And they can stay with my parents during the season!”
“And how will we bring home that one?” Ness says, pointing at the brown cat. It did follow the black cat, but just enough to be in attacking range just in case Isagi pulls something on them. Isagi smiles at him and doesn’t saying anything - instead, he just sits down on the sidewalk and lets the black cat climb on his lap.
“I won’t hurt you kitty, it’s ok,” Isagi coos. He uses one hand to pet the black cat while holding the other out for the brown cat. Brown cat inspects him before slowly walking towards Isagi’s hand. Ness watches in silence as brown cat sniffs his hand, all while Isagi stays still, letting black cat rest peacefully on his lap. “See,” Isagi whispers, “it’s ok.”
Brown cat finally gives in and crawls on Isagi’s lap as well, cuddling up beside black cat. Isagi beams and gently starts petting brown cat, earning him twin purrs from the two. He looks up at Ness, eyes practically twinkling with joy. He pats the empty spot next to him and Ness sighs, knowing he’s already lost this argument. He can’t ever say no to Isagi when he looks this happy.
He sits down beside his boyfriend and places his chin on Isagi’s shoulder, watching the two cats sleep and cuddle on his lap. Ness pets the black cat, since he doesn’t know how brown cat will react to someone other than Isagi petting him. “If we do this, you’re in charge of changing their litter and feeding them.”
“Deal.”
“We still need to check if they belong to someone.”
“I know, but I have a hunch they don’t.”
Isagi points at the black cat. “I’m gonna name this one Kintsuba, and this one-“ he points at the brown cat, “-Strudel.”
Ness smiles at him. “Our favorite desserts?”
“Yep!” Isagi smiles back at him, “cute huh?”
Ness looks at his boyfriend and the two bonded cats, and thinks maybe this won’t be such a bad idea after all. He chuckles and leans in to give his boyfriend a kiss on the cheek.
“Very cute.”
