Chapter Text
After making it back to the lab, Johnathon pointed at the bag management had given you.
"I'm not sure if you only had a desktop in the front office, but here your provided with a laptop, so you can take it wherever you need when your working with me,"
"Oh, that's awesome," you said as you reached for the bag, eager.
Johnathon watched as a smile spread across your face, and he suppressed one of his own.
You sat at the desk assigned to you in his lab and logged into your new laptop using your old credentials, and it started up with a ding.
"By the way, my schedule isn't only on the wall in my office. liv made us all use this website... here let me show you,"
Johnathon made his way over to you, leaning over to use the laptop.
"Okay," he hummed, dragging out the last syllable, "so it's just.."
He trailed off in thought as he opened a browser pinned to the taskbar.
"You'll just log in using the same username and password you used for the computer and then I'll sign you into my schedule,"
You did as he said and he clicked around on the screen, trying to figure something out. Although you weren't paying much attention, too busy noticing how his shoulder was on top of yours. You caught a better glance at him out of the corner of your eye, watching his brown eyes scanning the computer screen from behind his glasses.
"Ah, there we go," he smiled as you looked back to a calendar now on your computer screen. There were colorful lines on every day on the calendar, which you assumed were the things he had to get done on each day.
"If you click on each day you can see what each event is, but here's an easier way to keep up with my schedule,"
Your eyes wandered on the screen before deciding to click on today.
new intern :)
talk with liv -12:30
collider meeting -3:00
finish rough models - 4:15
Your eyes widened, looking over to Johnathon whose face was a light shade of pink.
"All of this is today?" I asked.
"Yeah, like i said kind of a mess but we can figure it out i'm sure,"
A chill ran through your body on the word we, you tried to ignore it.
"Definitely! alright, it's 9:45 now, so..." You trailed off, glancing at the sad and now cold piece of peanut butter toast sitting on Johnathon's desk.
"Have you eaten?" you asked, looking up toward him.
"Ah, funny you ask," he giggles out, trying to cover a tan stain on a patch of his lab coat,
"Not entirely,"
You smiled.
"That looks like a soggy piece of toast. Here we have some time, we can go to the cafeteria and get something. I'll make you a coffee too as a thank you,"
Johnathon smiled and agreed before you both stepped into the surprisingly empty elevator down to the cafeteria
As you slowly descended, a realization hit you.
"Oh my gosh, I totally interrupted you," You said, glancing at the tan stain on his coat.
"What?" He asked, looking at you quizzically.
"You were busy when I walked in, that's why the toast looked so sad," You giggled as you covered your face with one of your hands.
"Oh, no that was definitely not your fault. I had an... issue this morning with time and it's just been down hill from there,"
You removed your hand and looked to him, noticing him smiling at you.
"Really, not your fault at all. Don't worry,"
You laughed as the elevator door opened and both of you walked out toward the breakfast table.
Johnathon didn't think he'd ever had a co-worker quite like her. She was considerate, thoughtful, and even had a sense of humor, much unlike every other Alchemax employee.
He smiled once he arrived at the breakfast table, deciding on a simple granola bar this time.
"I assume you've also probably already had coffee," You said, the feeling of embarrassment creeping back.
"Yes, I have. But you can never have enough coffee," He looked at you, a smirk across his lips.
Johnathon told you what he liked; a simple black coffee, whatever blend didn't look cheap. You did as he said, all the while making small talk.
The more the two of you talked, the more depth Johnathon felt in your life. Although, he felt there was a hole somewhere, like something was missing. Probably something sensitive, he liked to assume, or possibly just because you had just met.
He didn't know what it was about you, but he felt at any given moment he might tell you his deepest fears, or his embarrassing memories. He felt as if he'd known you for ages, or maybe he wanted to know you. He wanted anything to talk to you more.
"Alright, coffee for you, Dr. Ohnn,"
Johnathon cringed, but tried not to make it obvious.
"Thank you, ready to get to work?"
You nodded, eager, and the two of you made it back to his lab.
The next hour was certainly nothing you should've been eager about. You both sat in silence, clicking around and occasionally cursing under your breath.
12:15 had finally rolled around, and Johnathon lifted his wrist before shaking his head and looking at his computer screen.
"Alright, I've better head to that meeting with Liv. You alright here?" He asked, letting out a sigh.
"Yep! Good luck, hope things go well,"
Johnathon hid a smile as he thanked you, walking out of his lab afterwards.
Johnathon’s mind was preoccupied as he wandered the halls to Liv’s office. He thought about his new assistant, and a spark of hope rose through his entire body. She was beautiful and smart, something he already admired about her.
He gave Liv’s door a knock once he arrived, earning a ‘it’s open!’ from the other side.
Johnathon pushed open the door to see Liv focused on something on her computer.
“Oh, Johnathon! Glad you made it,” Liv said.
“Promised I would,” He managed to laugh out.
As many times as the two had worked together, Johnathon still couldn’t shake the feeling that Liv was seen as his higher up rather than his equal.
“I just wanted to discuss some things with you before our official meeting later,”
Liv lifted some papers off her desk and riffled through them.
“First off, Mr. Fisk will be at this afternoons meeting, so make sure your ready and there early,”
Johnathon nodded.
“Oh and the models, how are they coming?”
A large grin spread across Johnathon’s face.
“Really good, actually. I’ve made a few in the last week and I brought them all today for the meeting,”
Liv also smiled before continuing firing her questions at Johnathon, as well as giving him a paper from Fisk, telling them what he wanted out of them.
Liv glanced at her working watch, which Johnathon felt a small bit of jealousy of.
“I think that’s all,” she said before her eyebrows raised,
“How’s your new intern?”
“Great! Good, she’s… Shes very helpful,” Johnathon said, fluster written over his pink cheeks.
“That’s good,” Liv said, not really paying attention. Johnathon assumed her question was purely out of whatever respect Liv had left for him.
“Alright, I’ll see you at the collider meeting,” Johnathon let out with a sigh.
Liv said her goodbyes as Johnathon walked out the door, and he began reading the list Mr. Fisk had made them.
It was pretty much just orders about what he wanted from the collider, how he wanted it to be safe and stable and a whole bunch of nitpicking Johnathon wished he had the patience for. There was nothing safe about this machine, it was just a matter of who ran it and if anything interfered with it.
Johnathon mentally prepared himself for the rest of his day as he opened the door to his lab.
