Chapter Text

Hueningkai had no idea why he was back in a place that held horrible memories for him.

As he walked towards the cafeteria he almost always looked behind him to make sure nobody was right beside him. It became sort of like a habit for Hueningkai to do that anytime he wasn't in his garden.

Soobin didn't notice this behavior coming from the brunet beside him, he was focusing on making sure he memorized the direction to this food place. Wondering what kind of food they had.

It was when someone bumped into his guide's shoulder, and he heard the ruckus, that he snapped back from his food daydreams.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!". Hueningkai bowed more than Soobin could count on his fingers. His voice sounded rushed and fearful.

The person he bumped into didn't seem to bothered as he just nodded to the boy in recognition. Soobin noticed how the brunet was breathing pretty quickly.

"Hey, are you okay?", he asked which Hueningkai responded with a grin and continued to walk. That same grin that he saw back in the garden. He knew it would be something that would be imprinted in his mind.

When they arrived to the entrance they both paused with a similar emotion on their faces. Concern. For Soobin, it was because there was no way he would get something to eat before lunch was over. The lines were huge. Plus, it seemed like there was no table that wasn't already being used.

For Hueningkai, well, we know this wasn't the place he would choose to spend his time at. He also started to recognize a few faces. He needed to get out of there. He needed to leave right no-

"Steve! Over here!"

Both boys looked to their left which was where the loud voice was coming from. They saw a black haired boy waving both his hands in the air.

Soobin immediately recognized him as the boy from the bus. Yeonjun. He smiled when he saw the boy gesture to come towards where he was sitting. He was walking towards him when he noticed he wasn't being followed. He threw a confused look towards the brunet.

"Um...you should go sit with your friend". Soobin was going to tell him to follow him, but then he spoke again. "It's okay, I'm already full with my sandwich", he faintly smiled. "Have fun".

Soobin didn't get to say anything as the boy was already walking away. It left him feeling worried. He hoped he gets to see the boy once again.

His worries vanished momentarily when he arrived to the table Yeonjun was at. He noticed he wasn't alone. There was a boy in front of him writing something down in a book. From what he can see, he had light brown hair that was styled into a mullet. It looked nice.

"Hey Steve", Yeonjun patted the seat next to him which Soobin took the hint and moved to sit by the boy.

The mullet boy must have heard his friend call an unfamiliar name, because when he looked up his left eyebrow was arched. That gave Soobin a chance to finally see his face. He had a sharp nose that had big curious eyes above it.

"Oh this is Taehyun", Said boy looked Soobin up and down. It made him anxious to know what was going through his head, because his face was expressionless.

Yeonjun gave him a hard glare. Taehyun rolled his eyes at his friend.

"Hello"

"Hey", Soobin responded managing a small smile. It wasn't reciprocated, instead the boy went back to writing in his book.

"Sorry about him, he isn't much of a people person", said Yeonjun earning himself a scoff from his friend. Soobin just nodded as if saying it's okay.

"Soooo", Yeonjun prolonged the word as he put a bag of chips on Soobin's lap. "Who was the boy you were with, new friend?".

Soobin wondered why the boy was giving him many snacks, was his stomach rumbling again? He opened some chips as he answered Yeonjun's question.

"Yeah, well, I think..", he chuckled nervously which made the boy beside him laugh with him."I met him not too long ago."

Yeonjun hummed in acknowledgment. "That's nice- Hey!", he exclaimed as he caught his non talkative friend steal his strawberry milk.

"What, it was just sitting there". Taehyun gave his sad friend a small grin, but when he met eyes with Soobin it disappeared. The boy now for sure knew he didn't leave a good impression on this guy.

A few minutes had passed and now the three were just finishing up some of their food/snacks. Soobin was left alone when Yeonjun offered to throw away their trash for them. Soobin thanked him. Taehyun was the first to give his trash to the boy. Yeonjun playfully rolled his eyes.

Now the two were sitting in awkward silence, at least that's what it felt like for Soobin, the other didn't seemed bothered. It was making him uncomfortable, so he did the first thing that came to mind. He started to crack his knuckles.
Another nervous habit.

This didn't go unnoticed by Taehyun, he looked up with a face that read, what are you doing? Soobin just nervously smiled and averted his gaze, while still not leaving his poor knuckles alone.

He only stopped when he heard the boom of a microphone being turned on. He turned around to see what was going on. He saw a couple of people on a stage, and one was about to say something into the microphone.

"Hello everyone! Please give your time to listen to Hybe's Band play!". There was a chorus of cheers and woos. Taehyun groaned loud enough for Soobin to hear.

"We should start walking to class now Yeonjun". Soobin didn't notice that the boy had returned so he was confused, until he turned around and saw the boy with his arms crossed looking towards the stage.

His face held a type of emotion that Soobin couldn't decipher.

"Yeah, we should". He went to grab his backpack, but then he asked, "are you coming Steve?".

Soobin didn't know what to do. He was curious as to how this band would be like, but he also didn't want to lose this guide. He definitely needed to stay with him to get to his other classes.

Taehyun didn't wait up for the other two as he was already walking towards the exit.

Soobin decided to follow his guide and his nonchalant friend. He had a small hope that he would get to see the band play a different day. As he walked towards the exit his eyes were still glued behind him. Not looking where he was going he bumped harshly into someone's shoulder, he heard a loud thud. Soobin prayed he didn't just make a person fall. He couldn't afford having an enemy on his first day. That would be a new record for him.

Yeonjun heard the noise behind him, so he turned his head pretty fast, not going unnoticed by Taehyun. The first thing they saw was Soobin frantically bowing and saying 'sorry' over and over. Then they saw another boy, a few inches shorter than the other. But I mean, who wasn't shorter than Soobin.

The boy was bending down to pick up what he dropped from earlier events. To Yeonjun, he immediately recognized it as a guitar case. It was confirmed when the boy opened the case, he guessed it was to check if there was any damage done to his instrument.

Soobin was getting anxious at the fact that the boy wasn't saying anything, he was just scanning his guitar. If there was any damage done Soobin would obviously offer the money to get it fixed, it was the least he could do. His thoughts were caught off by the boy's surprisingly deep voice, and there seemed to be an accent to it.

"It's fine, nothing's broken"

Soobin couldn't put a finger to it, was it a daegu accent? The boy picked his things up, letting Soobin finally have a look at his features.

This is probably his first time seeing someone with an extravagant hair color, he thought it was cool. The guitar boy's hair color was grey, it suited him. His facial features were pretty soft and small.

Taehyun and Yeonjun were looking at the boys in front of them looking each other up and down. It felt like it was a long time until one of them broke the eye contact. Yeonjun didn't like what happened next, the guitar boy's eyes landed on him.

"Uh, I should get going", the boy said quickly looking down from the staring contest he just had with Yeonjun. Soobin was a bit confused, but that's not a new feeling for him. He just quickly apologized one more time before the boy was on his way. Apparently toward the stage where the band was supposed to play. Soobin felt even more guilty.

You couldn't tell what Taehyun was thinking based on his face, but inside he was annoyed. He just wanted to leave, so he pulled on Yeonjun's arm.

"If you don't want to be left follow us giant".

Soobin quickly caught up to them. As he did, he could hear the music the band was making faintly getting quieter as he distanced himself.

"Did you know who that wa-", Soobin's question was interrupted by seeing Taehyun shaking his head at him firmly.

It seemed like the conversation he had tried to make was off topic. For now.

As they walked to wherever Yeonjun was now leading them Soobin couldn't help but think about all the events that happened since he got up this morning. First he missed the bus, then he got lost in the school garden. Closely afterwards he managed to somehow almost destroy someone's instrument. Soobin felt like this could definitely be a 'first day at a new school horror story' for someone's enjoyment.

However, all those things had brought something new to him. More like four very different people. That has been the whole reason why he was even here in the first place. I guess when Soobin really thinks about it, his first day has gone extremely well so far.
