Chapter Text

Yoongi snaps his eyes open and is met with the most beautiful omega he has ever seen. The man stands in the high grass looking at him unsurely as the wind softly blows through his wavy dark hair. Yoongi could swear that he hears a ringing in his ears almost like a bell, it’s probably just the fact that he still hasn’t eaten anything, he tells himself.

Now that Yoongi is aware of the others presence his nose picks up the scent of…apple. He smells like apple blossoms and also like the sweet ripe version of the fruit itself. The other omega is still looking at him, waiting for a response.

“Ah, hello” Yoongi replies shyly. He keeps staring at the stranger, perplexed by his beauty. His face looks so soft and gentle framed by his fluffy hair and his body seems to have an amazingly strong build, from what Yoongi can tell. He self-consciously touches his own head. He has not thought about what his hair might look like after the night he had. The braid seems to be mainly intact, but it’s a little bushy allover and a couple strands have found their way out and are now hanging loosely around his face. Yoongi feels his face heat up in shame.

“I’m Jungkook! It’s lovely meeting a fellow omega”, the stranger – Jungkook – says while smiling softly.  “And you are?” he asks Yoongi after he hasn’t said anything but stared at Jungkook.

“I’m Yoongi”, he almost whispers, still a bit out of it. I should really eat something soon, he thinks to himself not used to this weird feeling.
“Yoongi is a nice name,”, said omega blushes lightly and Jungkook keeps going, “do you mind if I join you in the shade? I come here quite often and this is definitely the best spot to relax.” Yoongi nods still not really feeling like himself. The other omega takes a big step over the stream and sits down next to Yoongi, who feels a bit shocked by the sudden closeness.

“So do you come here often?” Jungkook asks only to immediately  add “I mean, where you here before? Just because I’ve never seen you and as I said I spend quite a lot of time here and I’m just curious, like not in a weird way. I didn’t mean it in a weird way, I heard it the moment I said it and it just came out wrong” he spills those words  so fast that Yoongi almost has trouble following. He can smell a light anxious tint in the others scent and wonders if he managed to wash his own sour scent off completely or if the other man could still smell his distress.

“Sorry” Jungkook adds quietly, and Yoongi realizes that his constant silence must have given of the wrong impression.
“No, no it’s ok” he carefully says, his voice a bit scratchy so he clears his throat to continue “This is my first time here actually, I just found it by chance.”

The other perks up at his answer obviously happy that he didn’t offend Yoongi in any way. His eyes sparkle as he asks “Where do you live that you found this place? I always thought that we live quite remotely and that’s why I never meet people when I go for walks in this area” he pouts a bit at the end which Yoongi finds oddly endearing. Then he registers the mistake he made. He gave out his real name to a total stranger who now wishes to know where he comes from. What is he supposed to say? He can’t possibly tell him that he doesn’t have a pack and that he is out here completely alone with no one looking out for him. Jungkook looks like a really nice guy, but that amount of blind trust would be simply reckless. So he has to get creative.

“Well my pack doesn’t really live close by but I was in desperate need of some relaxation, so I walked farther than normally and found this place” he makes up. Jungkook nods thoughtfully and says “I don’t want to sound rude, but you do smell rather sad and stressed”, so he does still smell as bad as he feared, but before he can explain himself Jungkook adds “I’m glad you found this place. It really is the best spot to relax!”

“Uhm yeah, it’s a very nice spot.” Yoongi awkwardly answers. He tries to avoid looking at the other as an uncomfortable silence sets in. He wants to say something to break it but he has no idea what and he was never the best at making conversation with strangers. He was taught, after all that he best stay quiet to not disturb the other pack members. The pack alpha was always very strict with that rule, he was only allowed to visit his already existing friends, everyone else should barely notice that he, and later Hoshi, were there. They shouldn't burden the pack more than they already do.

When the silence becomes even heavier and almost unbearable for Yoongi, he carefully turns his head to look at Jungkook. He is surprised to see that the other has his eyes closed and looks like he is sleeping or at least trying to. Yoongi thinks it’s a bit risky to just sleep next to a stranger like that. Maybe Jungkook is a bit naïve and also young. He does seem a bit younger than he is. Yoongi catches himself staring, again, and quickly averts his gaze back to the flowers in front of them.

Just when he starts to think that the silence might not be that bad, his stomach lets out an inhumanly loud grumble. He feels his face heating up and presses his hands on his tummy as if that could muffle the sound. Embarrassment sits heavy in his bones and he begins to apologize “I’m sorry-“

“You must be really hungry when it’s that loud!” Jungkook laughs. His face is scrunched up in a cute smile which reminds Yoongi of a bunny.

“Yeah, I guess it’s been a while since I ate.” He mumbles more to himself but the other still hears it.

“When you say that you live farther away I’m guessing that you had a very early breakfast?” he innocently asks. Right, Yoongi thinks, he can’t tell the omega that he hasn’t had food since yesterday. That would be difficult to explain.

“Yeah a very early breakfast. I should probably head back to eat.” Yoongi say and starts to slowly get up when Jungkook looks at him absolutely shocked.

“You’re telling me that you are that hungry but you have to walk all the way home first before you can eat?!” he nearly screeches.

“Well yeah, I-I didn’t bring anything with me. I underestimated how far I would go.” Yoongi is quite proud of his excuse, it seems very plausible.

“No I can’t have that! My Jin-hyung would kill me if I let you leave this hungry.” Jungkook grabs Yoongi’s shoulder to push him back down again and begins digging through his backpack that he apparently brought. When he finally finds what he’s been searching for he lets out a little triumphant yell and holds something wrapped in cloth up in the air.

“Here we go the most delicious sandwich known to man. Lovingly made by Hobi-hyung because he wouldn’t let me leave without any provisions.” Jungkook proudly proclaims and then adds with an eye roll that doesn’t look annoyed but rather endeared “Alphas, you know how they are.”  Yoongi really doesn’t, but the other doesn’t have to know.

The younger omega shoves one of the sandwiches he unwraps from the cloth in his hands and makes an encouraging gesture to try it. Maybe if he wasn’t that hungry or if he was confident that he would immediately catch something when he left, he would refuse but in this situation he happily accepts it.
He takes a bite and hums in appreciation when the sweet taste of jam fills his mouth. He has to concentrate on not devouring the whole thing in seconds and instead takes careful, small bites. He hears how the boy next to him also hums happily. He tries stealing another glance of the other and is slightly startled by the angry expression the other is sporting, but his scent is sweet and satisfied so he doesn’t comment on it and focuses on his own sandwich.

“It’s really good isn’t it?” Jungkook asks him when he sees that he finished his sandwich.

“Yes it was really good. I never had bread that was that fluffy or jam that’s this delicious” he tells the other. He wasn’t lying. The bread he and Hoshi would get was always a couple days old and hard on the outside and if they were really unlucky it was also moldy. Depending on how much food they had at the moment, Yoongi would sometimes simply cut the moldy parts of and eat it, but only he would eat that. He never gave questionable food to Hoshi.

“My hyungs make the bread and jam themselves that’s why it’s so good” Jungkook says with a proud smile. He seems to have people that take care of him and Yoongi is glad for him, ignoring the small pang he feels in his chest.

After they both finish the food, the tiredness begins to set back in, and while Yoongi thought Jungkook was naïve earlier for sleeping next to a stranger, he can’t stop his eyes from falling shut. He hears the other chuckle softly and hears him say “Yes, let’s have a little nap. You smell so nice” The last part is only a whisper and Yoongi isn’t sure whether he just imagined it.

When Yoongi wakes what must be a couple hours later he sees Jungkook in the field kneeling next to a flower and sketching inside a little notebook. He is really focused on his task and once again Yoongi finds himself marveling at the beauty of the omega. Just then the other look up and brightly smile at him.

“You’re awake!” he calls over the grass “That must have really been a long walk for you to sleep so deeply.” He teases. Yes, Yoongi needed the sleep but it wasn’t exactly a walk that tired him out like that, but he could hardly tell Jungkook about being chased by a bear.

“Yeah I guess” he answers lamely. He looks over the meadow how the grass gently sways in the wind and how it almost looks like the whole field is on fire because of the orange light from the evening sun.

Jungkook gets up from his spot and makes his way back over to him. He looks even better with the soft light, Yoongi thinks only to quickly shake his head to get rid of those thought. What is wrong with him? He was never like this. It must be the injury.

“Shouldn’t you get going?” Jungkook suddenly asks in front of him. “I don’t want to get rid of you! I like spending time with you, I mean I barely know you, but it just feels right. Aaah that is a weird thing to say, I mean it was very nice to share this place and the silence, also liked sharing that, a good silence, you know? And your scent is so fitting for this place and all the flowers, you just blend right in and then again you don’t really because your scent is so much better than the flowers here- Ah that was weird again. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry I’m gonna stop talking” he rambles off quickly blushing furiously towards the end. Yoongi feels incredibly endeared again and a bit bashful, but he realizes that Jungkook is not wrong about the time to leave part. If he actually lived farther away in a pack, he would have to get going by now to not be out alone too late.

“Oh moon, you’re right!” he says, grabs his little bag and gets up. He notices that the other omega is taller than he is, so he has to look up as they stare at each other for a short moment.

“Well… it was nice meeting you Jungkook-ssi” Yoongi says holding out his hand towards the other. He doesn’t know where he found the confidence to do that but he just want to hold his hand, really quickly at least. Jungkook smiles wide and shakes his hand with a firm but gentle grip. His hands are really soft and warm and Yoongi feels his heart beating faster at those thoughts.

“Yes it was really nice! I hope you come visit this place again soon. I’m here almost every day” the omega tells him.

Yoongi nods and gives him a smile, then he turns around and leaves over the meadow back to the woods. He has no idea where he should go, but for now he has to get out of Jungkook’s view so that he can find shelter and maybe some more food. Perhaps he should be a little upset that he lost such a prime sheltered spot because the other showed up, but the only emotion he finds in himself about meeting Jungkook is joy.

He walks around aimlessly for a little while until he finds a fallen tree whose roots create a perfect little cave. He places his bag there and then begins to sniff around a little. He doesn’t smell any other animals that have marked their territory. Hopefully this way he can prevent another run in with a bear.

His wound still hurts but at least its clean now, so he lets it be and starts looking for food and water instead. He only manages to find some berries and unfortunately no water, but his body is still very exhausted so he goes back to his little cave. He will just have to look for water and more food tomorrow. Who knows he might even go back to the meadow and spend another day with Jungkook. He can’t stop the smile that sneaks on his face when he thinks about that. He uses the leftover shirts and pants as blankets and bedding and munches the berries until he curls into a small ball and falls asleep again
