Chapter Text
Enid watched Wednesday escape from the classroom at a speed she didn't know the young girl had.
Everyone seemed to be surprised, Enid was the only one worried, terrified.
Every particle in her body begged her to get up and run after her, but could she allow it? Did she even want to see her? A real internal battle was taking place in her head, chasing her, yes or no? But her thoughts were cut short by placing one hand on her forearm.
-"Don't worry, I'll take care of it."
His neighbor got up from her chair.
-"I'm going to go see what's wrong with Wednesday."
The teacher nodded while the other students looked at each other, some shrugging their shoulders, and others giggling after making stupid assumptions about their behavior.
Enid had to really fight not to pounce on every student who dared to simply smile at the situation when the teacher resumed class.
-"You should listen to the lessons, maybe you will make less stupid assumptions"
Enid's gaze shifted to see Bianca giving her a smile of encouragement Bianca and Wednesday weren't great friends, but each had a genuine respect for the other.
divina articulated in turn silently
“Everything will be fine.”
This was enough for the blonde to stretch out a little, she wasn't alone, she have friends with her.
And she had left Wednesday alone all this time.
Heartless Wednesday? Psychopath? scary ? Horrible ? No, she was she who was horrible, she left her alone, without anyone, the one she called her best friend, the one she said she loved. While she has noticed many changes in his behavior for a while, Wednesday is not doing well, and she has stayed away because of these feelings and her stubbornness in making Wednesday understand these mistakes. She remained without doing anything.
She was such a loser.
The class quickly became a background sound, his mind vocalizing far too much about Wednesday and Yoko hanging out somewhere in the empty corridors of this establishment.
And the things certainly aren't getting any better as far as the clairvoyant's mind is concerned.
-"So?" Yoko asks, coming to sit next to the goth, taking care not to look directly at the other girl to make her as comfortable as possible.
-"Okay, we can stay like this too." said the vampire, spreading her legs on the ground and scrutinizing where she was, she wasn't really a model student. The library is a place she's never set foot in to be honest.
They sat in a long silence, and if Wednesdays was honest with herself she appreciated it, for the first time in almost three weeks she wasn't alone.
And this terrifies her, when did she start to appreciate the presence of another individual? Perhaps it is the bond that Yoko has with Enid that puts her in a kind of trust?
She was always convinced that she had an unprecedented capacity for adaptation, perhaps she made a mistake, she did not have that capacity for adaptation which would allow her to support Enid, Eugene or Yoko, divina, Bianca...Nervemor, no, she began to appreciate this school and not only for the mysteries but also for a certain presence which was not so unbearable to her as she would have appreciated it being. Worse, she started to like a certain things, to love *her*.
She was completely screwed, these parents condemned her to this martyrdom by sending her to this school.
Sentenced to life.
To like.
The very idea of having succumbed to a feeling as ridiculous as love makes him want to rip his heart out.
"Did Enid send you?" » Wednesday finally asked, raising his head of her arms.
-"Not really, you would certainly have appreciated the internal battle taking place in her mind, chasing you or not? So I came. Would you have preferred it to be her?."
-"No." She say without any hesitation.
"Yeah, you're definitely late for that."
Wednesday turned her head towards her neighbor, not seeing what talk the other girl.
"What are you referring to?"
-"You just realize now that you miss her don't you? She did this to me just two days after your fight. She must have cried on my shoulder for at least three days. Don't tell her that I told you, she wants to be a little too much like you, to play tough, as if nothing will touch her when it's the opposite."
Wednesday closed her eyes for a moment, her legs sliding on the ground to find herself in the same position as Yoko, taking care to pull on her skirt which had risen slightly towards her knees.
- "I'm sure you're not as callous as you make yourself out to be, you're just incapable of getting it all out and really understanding what's happening to you, aren't you?"
The goth's eyes are slightly opened, this is certainly the most emotional reaction that the vampire has seen to date. But she didn't dwell on it, it wasn't the time to be sarcastic like she was most of the time.
-"Don't worry, I don't have psychic power, I'm a bit like that, what differentiates us is that I understand my feelings, express them and admitting them is another story, I have a lot change on that since Divina."
Wednesday expected a lot of things but certainly not Yoko making confessions.
-"We're not really close, I know, but I spend too much time with Enid for you to be a stranger to me."
-"Same"
-"Ouaip, You want to try ?"
-"Try what ?"
-"Anyway, what have you been feeling since Enid left? Why did you run out of the classroom like that? Do you want to stay quiet? Talk? Scream? Cry? Whatever. Just tell me."
-"Why are you doing this ?"
-"Come on, let's not play this game, you like me, I like you. Maybe our connection with Enid? What does it matter, I'm here when you need me, I I don't need you to admit it, I know, so let me help you."
-"Just overwhelmed by a lot of sensations."
-"Ordinary mortals call it feelings, continue."
-"I'm becoming like my parents."
And wow, Wednesdays seemed almost hopeless, and yet Yoko saw no problem with it.
“You’re going to have to tell me more.”
-"I shouldn't be here."
-"Yeah, we should definitely be in Bio class, but hey, we're never like the others."
-"No, with you, I'll have to leave." she begins to get agitated, the vampire begins to not know what to say. Wednesday seems to be completely losing her mind, and all she can think about is forcing him to confront these feelings, but it's Addams!
How to force her to do anything?
The clairvoyant stood up, but she was quickly stopped by a hand around her fist, Wednesday wanted to leave, take her hands away, threaten Yoko with a horrible death, take out a knife, but she did nothing .
-"You can't continue like..." she paused slightly when her gaze fell into the dark eyes of the smaller one, the reflections, those bright eyes..."Wednesday. We're going to sit down. You going tell me about everything that's on your mind, because apparently this situation is affecting you more than you want to admit."
A slight crease appeared between his eyebrows, his gaze changing. Yoko pulled her, forcing her to come sit with her.
She didn't even want to imagine how horrible the last few weeks must have been for the clairvoyant. Even though they're not exactly best friends, she'll never leave him alone in this situation now that she realizes how bad she was.
Yoko turns her head when Wednesday gently sniffs, her head finding the inside of her arms.
-"You know, I certainly shouldn't speak for Enid, but she regrets, she knows that your stoic and ruthless attitude is normal that you are still learning what friendship means. Love." Yoko smiled, because here, she knew that it wasn't just a friendship, it was much more than that. "But sometimes, she would like you to understand more quickly, she likes you Wed. Like, really"
Wednesday doesn't even notice the nickname, too focused on what she had just said. Was she implying that Enid has feelings for her?
-"I know it's hard but try, talking won't kill you."
-"She left a huge void that I am incapable of combing through, I never needed the presence of anyone in the background, at 4 years old, I could already go camping alone in the woods with nothing other than my dagger on me.” she took out a silver dagger from her sleeve, it was not particularly reassuring to be next to an emotional Wednesday holding a knife.
- "I realized that I was pathetic. Like my parents when they are separated from each other. And it's not a good thing, but I still want Enid back in my family."
Wednesday purses her lips to keep these emotions from showing on her face as best she can.
-"Having cohabited with her was for me a kind of ability to adapt in any hostile environment" Yoko could almost have laughed at that "but that was not the case, at the beginning it was an adaptation, in removing the stikers on windows. The tape on the floor... Then it became a real shared accommodation, which had these advantages, the disadvantages disappeared little by little. I got used to this routine. I didn’t hate it.”
-"That's Enid's thing, everyone always ended up liking her."
-"I made a promise that this would never happen to me, I shouldn't have these kinds of thoughts, feelings..."
-"Feelings are human on Wednesday, you are sad because you miss Enid and that's normal. You like her, and sorry to tell you, you can't run away."
-"I'm not running away."
- “What did you just do just now?”
-"I just needed calm, sensory overload." Wednesday explains.
-"Yeah, emotions you mean." dismiss the vampire with a wave of the hand.
-"You're bad at lying when it comes to feelings, if you need to cry or calm down you should take advantage of it, class ends in 15 minutes, Enid will definitely come join us."
Wednesday nodded silently, this cowering again hiding his face in his arms.
Yoko stuck her head against the shelf behind it, stealing quick glances at the other girl.
They all screwed up here.
Yoko slowly moved her hand towards Wednesday's shoulder when she touched the dark fabric, she only felt her body trembling.
-"You will never be alone again, I promise."
And Wednesday cried for the first time since her scorpion died.
All these feelings have been accumulating for almost a month, sadness, fear, shame, love, she doesn't understand why she was crying, she didn't know why she trusted Yoko, she didn't even know why she was here. She didn't understand any of these changes that were happening in her body, in her mind, she understood nothing, absolutely nothing. She was completely lost and distraught.
But she was relieved, even if this dependence terrified her.
She was no longer alone.
