Chapter Text
Lucina closed her eyes as the wind blew through her hair. The view from up on the hill really was quite nice. The weather here was so much better than her world. Her first morning here actually seeing the sun rise was emotional to say the least.
So much had happened since then, but she still tried to take time to appreciate the small things. At least, ever since Robin got her to slow down a little bit. They had come so far, but she could not lose sight of why she was here, and why she was fighting. To save this world from despair. At least, it had started that way.
So much had changed. Looking to the horizon she wondered when exactly her reason for fighting had as well. For so long, she had fought for the future and happiness of others, but finally, she could fight for her own. It was a new feeling, but it made the afternoon breeze feel so much sweeter knowing she had them to live for.
"There you are," Lucina smiled at his voice. She had heard him coming from a while away. She knew the sound of his footsteps by now, yet they did not put her on alert like suddenly hearing footsteps used to and in some cases still did, "I hope I'm not interrupting."
"I don't mind," Lucina finally opened her eyes as her beloved came to stand by her side.
"It's quite a view."
"Yes, though I wish we could see the sun. I…would have liked one more sunset together."
Robin looked to his wife, "You act like there won't be another."
"Nothing is certain," Lucina closed her eyes and clutched her hands to her chest, "I just want to cherish what we have while we have it."
Robin smiled and pulled her close, "We'll keep having it. I promise. Many more sunsets to share."
"That sounds nice," Lucina smiled as Robin pulled her close to share his coat's warmth.
"What's the point in a tactician husband if I can't plan for my wife's happiness?"
The bluenette giggled in response, "Very well. It's a promise."
Lucina felt numb. She did not even realize she was crying until Morgan pointed it out. After that she quickly wiped her eyes and distanced herself from the group. She did not want them to see her like that. Especially not Morgan.
Why him? Why did it have to be him? Was this one last laugh Grima could throw in her face? Even if they won, was she not allowed her happily ever after?
He did it for them. More than that, he did it for her. After all she had done, after all she had neglected him and taken him for granted, he did it for her. She finally lost her battle with her own grief and guilt as the tears started to fall once more. The light reflecting off them as they fell made her acutely aware of something.
The sun was setting. So serene, So beautiful as the light shimmered on the ocean's surface. Without him to share it with, it just served as a reminder to her of what she had lost.
"You promised…we'd share them," Lucina clenched her fist, "And so we shall. I'll drag you back home if I must. Morgan needs her father after all. You said you'd survive and I'm holding you to that.
"I'm holding you to that…"
It had been a long journey, and Lucina wished she could have said it was a productive one, but unfortunately, despite their efforts, she and Morgan were unable to find Robin. Now they were coming home empty handed.
Lucina glanced at her daughter. She tried to stay peppy, but it was wearing on her. Lucina could tell even with her lack of social skills. She was her mother and as such, Lucina knew when she was struggling. Not that Lucina could blame her having lost her own father.
Struggling with displaying affection still, Lucina hesitantly put an arm around her daughter.
"We aren't giving up," Lucina reassured. They were closer now, but they both wanted Robin back.
"I know. We'll rest up and plan our next search, right?"
"That is the plan."
As they arrived at the castle, the two did notice something was amiss. The castle was abuzz with activity. Servants and maids alike were darting to and fro. The mother and daughter looked at either curiously before proceeding deeper into the castle to discover the source of the commotion.
The throng of activity got more intense until the pair made it to the royal family room in search of answers. Her parents were there, but she quickly forgot about them when she saw who they were talking to.
She stood there frozen for a few seconds as Chrom and Sumia gave them some space. Finally, Lucina got the words out.
"You're alive!"
"Sorry I took so long," Robin smiled as he gently wiped away her tears, "I can't imagine how much you must have hurt."
"That doesn't matter now," Lucina pulled him into a nearly bone crunching hug, "You're back. That's all that matters."
"Ahem," The two separated to see their daughter looking at them expectantly. "I missed you too."
"Get over here," Robin pulled her in for a group hug. One even more likely to turn his bones into gravel as the absurdly strong bluenettes welcomed him home.
"Robin, look," The tactician turned his head to the window his wife was looking out of, "It's beautiful, isn't it?"
"It is," Robin put his arms around both his girls, "I promised. We'll have many sunsets to share yet."
