Chapter Text
The Deity awakens with a gasp, sitting up with a start, looking around frantically for Ganon. Only to be met with a white void, confusion wracks his head as he slowly starts standing up, only stopping when a sharp pain grows in his chest. He looks down to see his tunics with a slit, his necklace cut in half.
You failed .
A voice wrung around the man as he looks up, moving to his feet and reaching for his sword only for his hand to meet air.
Your prized sword is not here, Deity. It is back on Hyrule where you fell.
“Goddess… Let me explain-”
SILENCE. because of you Demise roams Hyrule. Because of your inability to succeed I have now trusted Hylia and the Three Sisters with the task.
“ HYLIA?! What does she know of war? What does she know of fighting and bloodshed!”
What you teach her. That is your punishment. You will watch every fight, every lifetime, everything. And you will not interfere.
“Golden Goddess please ! I can fix this! I-i can do something, anything! ”
And you will.
The voice says, as the Deity gasps, clutching his chest as he feels his body being ripped in two, a ghostly figure exiting the man and floating in front of him. The Deity looks up and sucks in a breath, his eyes landing on the image in front of him. A young man who looks like him, but without the tattoos, and a tan tunic.
This is your chance. This is the carrier of Farore. You will watch every incarnation, you will be their guiding hand. And he will see you. Every. Single. Time.
“No… so you punish me for having emotions? For falling in love?!”
You weren't MADE to have emotions. You weren't made to fall in love. You are the blade of the Golden Goddess and nothing more. You did me a great service handing Majora, so I permitted you a life. But that life was mine to take as I wished. And you defied me. This is your punishment. For all time.
The Deity closes his eyes to fight back the tears threatening to fall as he hangs his head in defeat.
“By the will of the gods…” he mumbles, feeling the ground vanish beneath him as he starts to fall.
The Deity's throat tightens as his feet meet solid ground again, a warm, comforting presence beside him.
“I am sorry, Brother…” Hylia says gently, turning her head to him slightly as his shoulders start to shake.
“ Don't… ” he chokes, failing to hold back his tears as they start falling, a gentle hand lays on his shoulder in comfort as he bites back sobs, but unable to prevent the tears.
He sucks in a deep breath and looks forward, through the clouds at the young man sprawled out on his bed, sleeping soundly.
“Is this the first?”
“Yes. Hero of the Sky, his name is Link.”
Link…
“His heart belongs to another.”
“Zelda, she is the princess.”
He nods before letting a deep breath out, straightening his back as he sets his jaw.
“Let's begin.”
The Ocarina
“He's a child. They both are!”
“He is the hero of time! Deity. He is what determines the timelines. His age is not a factor in his bravery!”
“He cannot possibly defeat Ganon, Hylia! He isn't a knight!”
“ That is where you come in! You will guide his hand. Turn him into the fighter he was destined to be. Fi is still in the sword, she will also help.”
The Deity growls as he turns away from the goddess, cracking his knuckles. A timeline has come and past, one where the Hero fell to Demise, lifetimes had passed, many other adventures had passed.
The look on Ganondorf's face still haunts The Deity to this day, his body having changed much since he last saw him. No longer looking like himself… his hair like fire.. but for a moment, a fleeting second… Ganondorf's eyes turned back to their soft amber as the image of the Deity stood above him, face twisted in rage as he sunk the Master Sword deeper into his chest.
“It's starting, Deity.” Hylia says, the man sighs as he walks over, his shoulders slumped in defeat once again.
“Very well… how shall this one play…”
“This time, he wins and goes back to the forest. This one is darker… I do not see what happens after this battle.”
He hums as the boy steps up to the sword, he is so little… so young… that sword is so big… such a weight on such a young child's shoulders…
Link reaches forward, his small hand barely wrapping around the hilt of the sword as he gasps, falling to the ground for time to pass. Ten years…
“Hylia… it just dawned on me…” the Deity says, looking over at the goddess as she looks at him, her blue and gold eyes shining bright.
“I didn't come with my possessions… so tell me… Where is Majoras mask?”
The Mask
“You left it down there! You left him down there!” The Deity shouts at the void, disbelief and anger surging through his body.
I entrusted it with another, he is able to protect it.
“The trades man?! The mask collector? By the three are you SERIOUS ?!” he shouts, throwing his arms out.
“Do you know how many went after it when I held the mask? How many I killed in your name?! And you just gave it to someone who collects masks!”
You will watch your tone, Deity.
“No! No I will not. I did not spend thousands of years protecting the world for Majora only for you to cast it aside like nothing! Does he even still have it?”
Yes, he- oh.
Oh…
“He lost it. Didn't he?”
To a boy…
The voice says, the Deity's hands starting to shake before he lets out a roar, never wanting to hit something so much in his entire life
“He lost it to a CHILD! This mask that holds an ancient evil that is nothing any world is prepared for and he LOST IT! ”
Do you wish to help? I have made an error and I see that you are the only one able to capture Majora and free this child from his grasp.
“If it keeps that monster from winning, I will do anything.”
He hears a hum before that tearing feeling comes again, only worse. He gasps in pain as he falls to his feet, gripping his face as the skin slowly starts turning hard.
“What are you doing?!”
I cannot trust you down there, physically. So if the young hero finds you, your ability will possess him. You will be the Fierce Deity of the past, the slayer of God's. And you will bring Majora to me.
The Deity goes to speak but finds his voice gone as he continues to claw his face, feeling the ridges of wood form before… nothing.
Nothing but cold.
So he sits and waits… sits and waits for the hero of time to wear him so he can defeat Majora once again.
It was a very long wait.
The Twilight
“He's a wolf…”
“Yes.”
“He has an imp…”
“Yes.”
“By the three” he groans, rubbing his eyes in annoyance.
“You have seen him stop the moon, yet you still find annoyance in him. Why?”
“Hylia, nows not the time.”
“It's because you know Ganondorf is going to see you again, isn't it?”
“I- what? No!” He says, looking over at the goddess, her eyebrow raised in disbelief.
“How many more..”
“Four. Maybe.”
“ Maybe… ” he scoffs, rubbing his jaw as the duo make their way on their adventure, Link having since turned back into a man.
“How does Midna feel about him?”
“She cares for him.”
“And Zelda?”
“Acknowledged. No real feelings, not like their first form.”
“He deserves those happy endings…” the Deity says, watching Link in a fight, his movements very similar to that of the gods.
“He's becoming more like you.”
“I rubbed some off when he wore my mask.”
“How did that feel? Being wood for a year?”
“Exhausting. Itchy, shockingly.”
“Your physical form wasn't there, how could you have been itchy?”
He shrugs as he continues to watch as Link and Midna fight their way through Twili, Fi humming quietly as she cut through the shades.
“Would you do it again? If it meant you could be with him?”
He pauses before shaking his head. “There is no world where I can be with him. I was unable to when I was there, and if I went back as a mask I would be taking someone's free will to fulfill my own desires. It wouldn't be right.”
She hums as she swipes the image in front of them away.
“Come with me, their journey is almost over.” She says, offering her hand to the Deity. “Trust me, the Goddess doesn't need to know about this.” She says as he hesitantly wraps his arm around it, her warm hand resting on his forearm as they walk through a beam of light, only to appear on the other side in a field in Hyrule.
Link and Zelda riding on Epona as she fires beams of Lights at Ganondorf.
“Hylia, we shouldn't be here.”
“I know. But you deserve to see him again.”
The Deity drops his arm as he slowly walks forward, an arrow hitting Ganon off his steed as Link leaps off and delivers the Master Sword deep into the man's chest, mirroring the first time the young hero took the King's life.
“Do not think this ends here” the man growls, the master sword still buried in his chest as he stands, Link having returned to Zelda side as the Deity continues walking forward.
“The history of light and shadow will be written in blood!” He shouts, flexing his hand before freezing, Zant appearing in front of him, turning his head to snap Ganondorf's neck, the sound ringing in the otherwise silent feild.
The Deity steps in front of the man, examining his face as he sets one hand on the Master swords hilt, pulling it out alongside Link, slowly lowering Ganondorf to the ground as he sighs.
“Soon… but you are not him.” He places Ganondorf's head down gently in the grass before walking back to Hylia, pausing at the gateway.
“Thank you…”
She nods as he walks through, following close behind as Link and Zelda look over to where their presence was once lingering.
The Tears
The Deity watched as the Calamity brought ruin to Hyrule, a new generation having fought him down, only for Demise to sacrifice it all in a vain attempt of success. This wasn't his timeline after all. It was the convergence.
Seven years had passed and Hyrule was back in an era of peace, the Knight and the Princess helping their people and investigating the ruins under the castle.
The Deity has never heard of the Zonai, their time having come after his death, and Hylia banning him from the viewing room, stating that his presence was not needed in their era.
“Are you alright? You've been silent these last few days.” The Deity asks, Hylia looking over at him and smiling quickly.
“Yes, quite. Deity.. there is something you need to know…” she starts before he holds his hand up, leaning closer to the viewing point.
“That's… that gloom.” He says watching the two make their way down deeper into the catacombs, the whisps swirling more violently as they get closer to their goal.
“So that's… Ganon..” he gasps, his eyes locking on the figure held down by a hand before it falls down, his amber eyes glowing in the husks of where they once were.
“He's… he's alive… he's alive and you knew.” He growls, turning to look at the goddess, her back turned to the Deity.
“The Golden Goddess… commanded it. He was hidden by the Zonai King after your passing… I made a vow to not tell you.”
He sets his jaw before grabbing her arm, twisting her to face him.
“You knew! If you never made that vow would you have told me?!”
“You were needed here-”
“ Would you have told me .” He growls, his eyes beginning to glow for the first time in a very long time as her eyes widen.
“Deity please, you must understand-”
“ANSWER ME!”
“No! I wouldn't have! You have a greater purpose here! Following the Goddesses will, that is why we exist. That is why you're here!”
He growls before letting her arm go, still glaring at her as she sucks in a shaky breath. “He has to die, Deity. That is the only way. You've seen what happens if he doesn't.”
“I don't care what happens if he doesn't die! You lied to me! You both did!”
“And you haven't?! You looked him in the eyes and said you didn't want to fight him. We both know that wasn't the truth.”
The Deity scoffs as he turns away from her.
“We both know you live to fight. And fighting the one you would end the world for? That was it for you. You could have ended him that day in Akkala. He never would have heard you. You wanted a fight. You wanted to struggle! The sooner you admit to that the sooner this will end!”
The Deity spins around and grabs Hylias throat, pushing her down on her knees as he glares down at her.
“I could break you. Right now . What would Hyrule loose? An egotistical god who thinks she's above everyone and everything. When in reality you're just afraid.”
“You wouldn't dare.”
“Their fight will end. Our avatars will come victorious. Then I am done. I will live the rest of time out however I wish. And you, or the Golden Goddess can stop me.”
“Then you will vanish.”
“I would rather that, than be a plaything of fate any longer.”
He shoves her down, turning back to the view point, his arms moving behind him as he watches the Adventure unfold in front of him, the Hero facing his new challenges and new heartbreak as bravely as he did in the beginning of time.
________
The Deity remains emotionless as his avatar fought the Desert King, then the Demon King, only to end with the Draconified Demon King. The young man facing each with the gusto of the god when he faced Majora down. Hand steady and aim true as he takes the Dragon head on, slamming the restored Master Sword into the gem of power in the center of the Dragons head, the roar shaking the very heavens.
“It's done… isn't it? Ganondorf gave up…” Hylia says, staring at the view in awe as The Deity turns his back to the goddess, staring into the void.
“He's tired. A ten thousand year battle he couldn't hope to win. In the end he knew it. So he was desperate and tired. It doesn't matter. Hyrule is safe. Demise is gone. If you'll excuse me.” He says curtly before walking away, a dark smoke forming in the distance.
Ganondorf opens his eyes with a gasp, looking around the white void surrounding him. Nothing… nothing but the image of a man walking towards him.
“Stay back.” Ganondorf demands, his hand moving to where his sword should be, only to meet air.
“Now why would I? I've been waiting for you for ten thousand years.” The Deity says, stopping in front of Ganondorf.
“Kijin..”
“Hello again, I found you, and this time, you're not leaving me.” The Deity says, gently placing his hand on Ganondorf's chest, the larger man setting his hand over it, smiling down at the god.
“In every lifetime… until the end.”
