Maybe One of These Days You Can Let the Light In

Chapter 8: Epilogue

Chapter Text

On their first wedding anniversary, Roman arrives at the W offices to pick Gerri up for dinner. After trying the don’t-you-know-who-I-am routine with the doormen, he finally calls his wife and gets her to come down and let him in. They arrive on the floor of Gerri’s office, Roman looking around curiously at the changes that have been made. The last time he was here was the day of the vote. He remembers glimpsing Gerri as she walked in, the way she had looked back at him momentarily before turning away.

“Are you okay?” she asks, leading him into her office. “I know there’s a lot of memories here…”

“What, no, I’m fine. I’m great. It’s nice to be back.” He sits on the chair facing Gerri’s desk and spins around. There aren’t that many people left on the floor. “You wanna do the office desk sex thing?”

“What?”

“You know, where I sweep everything off the desk and throw you down and—”

“Roman, if you touch anything on my desk I will kill you.”

He settles for playing with the plastic flowers in the vase by the window instead, letting Gerri finish her work in relative quiet. He takes his shoes off to get her attention. She rolls her eyes.

Finally it’s time to go. They walk out arm-in-arm, Roman only slightly hesitating outside the office that used to be his father’s.

“I’m glad I married you,” he says suddenly. “It’s the smartest thing I’ve ever done.”

“Don’t I know it.” She smiles at him. “I’m glad I married you too.”

“Shall we just go home and bang?”

“Nope.” She shakes her head. “I’m getting dinner out of you first.”

He stops, turning to face her. “I love you, Mrs Kellman-Roy.”

“I love you too, Mr Romulus Roy.” She kisses him softly on the cheek, then brushes her lips against his. “Happy wedding anniversary.”
