So if you told Sasha Waybright she would be standing in an airport with her luggage in hand for a great Broadway deal at the beginning of the year she would have definitely laughed in your face.
She had nothing left here,nothing to do and nothing to say,she was gonna leave and never look back without even thinking about it,she’ll blink away the memories of simpler times all in order to fulfill her lifelong dream.
Of course,it wasn’t going to be easy,mainly because her uncle Grime had fired himself in order to follow her all the way to the land of dreams,he was currently decking himself in airport goods,all the way from cheap candy bars to the unnecessarily expensive perfumes.
Sasha on the other hand was scrolling uninterested thru her phone,deleting stuff,adding new stuff,going back and forth between tabs to pass the time,granted the airport’s wifi could use some management,but it wasn’t unusable,she had only brought with her the stuff that was necessary,but had forgotten her headphones.
Speaking of that,as soon as she realized she didn’t have them on her,Grime went towards her with a ton of shopping bags in hand.
‘Lost something Sash?’He hands her a new pair of headphones,she doesn’t say a word,as a matter of fact she hasn’t said one ever since they got here.
One lost call,Anne.
A new voice message,from Anne.
She felt her blood run cold,she wanted her now that she was leaving,of course she did,why would she want her when she was there in the first place.
Sasha was aware of the fact that she wasn’t a great person,she wasn’t even a good one as a matter of fact,but she had always been okay with that,never paid much mind to it,until the world around her was no longer in her favor.
She had never been rejected,Anne had,but she’s Anne she doesn’t know what she wants,why would a good for nothing nobody like Marcy Wu be the one to send her spiraling into self-doubt?
Who was she to do that?Sasha had never cared enough to see past her own,but now,truly alone,laughed upon and friendless,the light of the spotlight could and would be the way to make amends.
Sure,she can’t be a good friend,but she can be a great actress. There was no need for Sasha to be herself,because all she needs is to play a role and that she was plenty good at.
You see,Sasha doesn’t wanna change,doesn’t feel the need to,doesn’t care for it.
She can stay the same,selfish,stubborn and arrogant person without consequences if she puts up a good enough show.
The way she was escaping from her problems doesn't cross her head,not even once,and when she boards the plane with her headphones on,she never looks back.
That year the theater club shut down,Marcy didn’t get her credit,but she made amends for it by giving out water bottles at the tennis club’s games,Sasha had blocked all of them,Anne was inconsolable for days on end,sure she may have not liked Sasha these days,but they went all the way back to kindergarten,you can’t forget someone like that,Marcy knew she couldn’t,and even she was left speechless when she learned Sasha had left,she never knew her well,never knew what she wanted,why she wanted,maybe she just thought she could get anything she wanted.
Slowly but surely Anne and Marcy figure that they need to move forward,they just decide to hate Sasha,hate her for leaving,hate her because understanding her was much too difficult to do,hate her because they needed a proper thing to feel about her.
So they settle for that,hate,a strong word to not be taken lightly,something that isn’t said if not brought from a place in us that comes from deep suffering that is rooted in our hearts,moving forward doesn’t come without it’s ups and downs,but in the end,senior year keeps them busy,way too busy to even properly process what had happened,why it had.
They find love amongst one another,and they become Marcy and Anne,the same Marcy and Anne who walked hand in hand to senior prom,the same Marcy and Anne who win cutest couple of the year.
Marcy is present at every tennis game Anne has,they share their first kiss just after a winning match and everything feels like it’s going in place,granted,there’s questions who could never be answered,or maybe they didn’t want them to be.
Sasha on the other hand,does exactly what she wanted to do,she goes from broadway contracts to nichè films to slightly more important roles to her big blowout in a movie called,ironically ‘Commander Anne’,the world sure likes to play pranks,but after that,she was no longer a regular teenager,she was a child star,a prodigy,she had made it and yet had never felt emptier.
After graduation,Marcy and Anne move in together right away,everybody thought it was too soon,but they didn’t care,Marcy decided to take a break from her studies to fulfill her dream of making a comic,she didn’t expect such a big audience,but luckily due to her crazy senior year,maybe,just maybe,she could handle a little audience,it takes years of steady buildup for it to be done,and a the end of it a film studio offers her a great deal for a live action movie for it!
Now,is this how it really ends?With Anne getting a biology degree,Marcy making a comic and Sasha forgetting all about them?Destiny ties us with strings,invisible ones,so when Sasha shows up to audition for the live action,nobody is really surprised.
