Chapter 2: Finding Peace Amidst the Shadows

Notes:

Sorry about the long wait for this chapter. It took so long mostly because of stuff in my personal life and I struggled to write and get motivation because of it. But now that my home life is a bit more stable I decided to go ahead and get out the next chapter for this story! Thank you so much for all the lovely comments and I hope all of you have an amazing day/evening/night!

Make sure to stay hydrated kids 💕

Chapter Text

When Aizawa got back, Shouto was lying on the sofa fast asleep.
Aizawa smiled softly, picking Shouto up carefully from the sofa and taking her to the guest bedroom.
It wasn’t very personalized, the color theme was mostly white with a few grays here and there and small plants scattered around the room.

If Aizawa were to permanently adopt Shouto, then he definitely planned to decorate it how Shouto would like it. But for now, this was fine.

Aizawa pulled back the thick blankets and laid Shouto in the bed.
Shouto sighed as Aizawa pulled the blankets over her.

Aizawa closed the blinds and turned off the light as he left the room.
When Aizawa got to the kitchen, he could feel the exhaustion finally seep into his bones.
Since he got that call from Todoroki, he hadn’t been able to sleep very well.
And when he did fall asleep, his dreams were plagued with images of Shouto screaming and crying as she was brutally violated.

Aizawa made himself a cup of coffee and sat down at the dining room table.
He took a sip, hissing when it burnt his tongue.

While Shouto slept, Aizawa figured he’d work on the case against Endeavor. There wasn’t much he could do about the men who Assaulted Todoroki.
She told the police what they looked like, but it wasn’t much help since making out their appearances had been hard for Shouto because of the dark.
The police were working on finding them but Aizawa knew it would be difficult.

Aizawa sighed as he pulled out his phone.

It was time to make a few calls

It was dark. Everything was so, so dark.
Shouto sat up quickly, gasping and sputtering.

A hand was on her throat. Squeezing and squeezing and Shouto couldn’t breathe.

Another hand was on her thigh, another on her wrist. Holding her down as Shouto screamed.

“ Stop!” She wanted to scream, “ Don’t touch me, please!”

But the words refused to form. The only sound that came out of her mouth was a heart-broken scream.

It hurt her throat but at that moment she couldn’t feel anything but the cold hands roaming all over her body.

But it was over in just a second.

Two warm hands held hers in a gentle grasp.

Her screams died in her throat and Shouto slowly opened her eyes (they were closed?).

Shouto blinked, her eyes fighting against the sudden brightness.
In front of her, was Aizawa. A concerned look in his eyes but a gentle smile on his lips as he stared down at Shouto.

His eyes didn’t move to any other part of her body.
His eyes stayed locked with hers.

“ Shhh, it’s okay, it’s okay. I’m here now Shouto, everything will be okay.”

Shouto didn’t realize she was crying until Aizawa gently wiped at the tears sliding down her cheek.

“ Was it a dream?” Aizawa asked after a moment of silence.

Shouto opened her mouth but closed it after a moment.

“ It was a memory.” Shouto whispered, her voice hoarse from screaming.

Aizawa nodded in understanding, brushing loose strands of hair out of Shouto’s face.

“ Well, I doubt you’ll be falling back asleep anytime soon, right?

Shouto nodded hesitantly.

“ Do you wanna watch a movie? I can fix us some popcorn or something if you want.”

Shouto nodded, taking Aizawa’s hand as he led her to the living room.

Some of the cats mewed in greeting as Aizawa sat Shouto down on the sofa.

“ Alright, what do you wanna watch?” Aizawa inquired, grabbing the remote and sitting down beside Shouto.

“ You can choose.” Shouto said, leaning back against the sofa.

She really wanted to turn her brain off, to just mindlessly go along with whatever Aizawa did, just for a little while.

“ Alright, what about this? Are you okay with this?” Aizawa took her hand, bringing her back from the faraway places of her mind.

Shouto glanced up at the TV.

Spirited Away

“ Yeah, that’s fine.”

“ Have you seen it before?”

“ No, I don’t think so.” Shouto had never been allowed to watch TV. The only things she ever watched were old Allmight videos in secret with her Mother.

“ I think you’ll like it.” Aizawa said pressing play and heading to the kitchen to make popcorn.

When Aizawa came back the movie was only two minutes in.

He sat down and gave Shouto a bowl filled with yellow-looking popcorn.

“ Thanks.” She said quietly.

She only started to dig in when Aizawa started eating his.

When they got to the thirty-minute mark Shouto set down her empty bowl on the coffee table and leaned into Aizawa’s side.

Aizawa absentmindedly ran one of his hands through Shouto’s hair, still munching on his popcorn.

Shouto sighed deeply, sleep pulling at her eyelids.

It wasn’t even that late. When Shouto had first gone to bed it was the afternoon, now it was late evening.

Aizawa shifted to get more comfortable, positioning Shouto on his lap.

Aizawa chuckled at something on the TV and Shouto felt herself further relax into Aizawa’s chest.

He was warm.

So, so warm.

Shouto closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

She had no nightmares.

When Shouto woke up again, it felt like her stomach was twisting in knots.
Her mouth was filled with thick saliva and Shouto knew she was going to throw up.

“ Zawa-sensei…” She called eyes still clamped shut.

Aizawa didn’t respond. In fact, Shouto didn’t think he was still lying on the sofa at all.

The urge to throw up grew and Shouto had to put a hand to her mouth to keep it in.
“ Aizawa-sensei!” She called again, holding back a gag.

She heard footsteps enter the room, and Shouto forced herself to open her eyes.

“ Are you okay?” Aizawa asked, going over to the sofa and kneeling in front of Shouto.

“ I-I don’ feel too good.” She whispered.

Aizawa put a hand on Shouto’s forehead.

“ You feel kinda warm and you're kinda pale.” Aizawa murmured.

“ I’m gonna throw up.” Shouto said, swallowing the thick saliva that pooled in her mouth.

It took a moment for Aizawa to process what she said, but when he did, he was quick to grab a trash can.

He sat Shouto up and rested the trash can under her chin.

Shouto gagged and gagged and then finally threw up. If felt gross and slimey in her mouth as it came up, the feeling making Shouto gag again.

When She was done she spit into the bin and laid back tiredly.
Aizawa was rubbing her back, saying comforting things that Shouto couldn’t quite catch.

“ Are you alright now?” Aizawa asked, “ Do you feel like you might throw up again?”

Shouto shook her head, wiping some of the vomit and spit away from around her mouth.

“ Does your stomach still hurt?”

“ Only a little bit.”

Aizawa hummed, “ I’ll fix you something to eat.”

Aizawa got up and left carrying the bin with him. Shouto sighed, arms wrapped around her stomach.

“This sucks.” Shouto thought, shifting so she could lie down.
The pain in her stomach had died down after Shouto had thrown up-which she was grateful for- but it still hurt. She was also cramping pretty badly which was weird since she only cramped when she was on her period.

Shouto curled into a ball. While she was shifting, her arm brushed against her breast causing Shouto to flinch.

“Ow.” She thought, jerking her hand away from her sore breasts.

The doctor had made Shouto aware that her breasts might be a little sore for a while, But Shouto didn’t expect to be at this level of soreness. It wasn’t anything she couldn’t handle but it was definitely uncomfortable.

For a while, Shouto lay there on her side, listening to the sound of the sizzling in the kitchen.
The atmosphere in Aizawa’s house was relaxing. It was quiet but not in the way that she hated.

It was quiet but loud at the same time.

No one was talking but there was still noise around the house.
Like the quiet hum of the dryer in the laundry room, the sizzling in the kitchen, the sound of the cats playing on their scratching tree. It felt like a proper home.

Shouto was watching the cats when Aizawa came with a bowl of rice and another bowl of miso soup.
Shouto hadn’t realized how hungry she was until she laid eyes on the steaming food.

“Do you think you can stomach this?” Aizawa asked setting the warm food on the coffee table in front of Shouto.

Shouto nodded, hoping she didn’t seem too eager.

Aizawa nodded, grabbing a tray table from beside the sofa and setting it up in front of Shouto.
“Thank you, sensei.” She said as Aizawa set the two bowls of food on the tray table.
Shouto felt incredibly spoiled. She wasn’t used to being given things so easily. Despite her father being rich and there being many servants, Shouto wasn’t given many things. More things had been taken from her than given. She had to work for anything she wanted. Including the necessities. Like food, sleep, and even clothes.
“Of course kid, that’s what I’m here for.” Aizawa said warmly, as he left the room to the kitchen.
He came back with a glass of water, set it down in front of Shouto then sat beside her.

“Where’s your food, sensei?” Shouto asked.

“I’m not a big breakfast person.” Aizawa said, waving a hand dismissively.

Shouto looked away, guilt setting heavily in her stomach.
If Aizawa wasn’t a big breakfast that meant he didn’t cook breakfast in the morning. But he’d just cooked for her today, which meant that he had done something he didn’t usually do and probably didn’t want to do because of her.

“Hey,” Aizawa said, pulling Shouto out of her thoughts. “I can tell you’re overthinking, I liked cooking you breakfast if I didn’t want to, I would have made you some cereal or something.”

Shouto nodded, feeling reassured by his words.
Her growling stomach reminded her of the food waiting for her and she began to dig in.
Aizawa turned on the TV turning it to some nature documentary.

After Shouto was done eating, Aizawa put her bowls in the dishwasher much to Shouto's dismay. It was so strange to have someone doing the things for her she was used to doing for other people.

But Shouto knew that living with Aizawa was going to lead to a lot of new things. And for some reason, that made her feel warm inside.

Notes:

I've decided that Shouto's friends will visit later in the story maybe by chapter 3 or 4
