Chapter Text

----

Later that same night…

Jay turned off the light before crawling into bed. He couldn’t help grinning to himself. For the first time ever, he’s laying beside the love of his life with no secrets between them. Tonio knows everything there is to know about him. That he’s a United States Navy SEAL.

Honestly, Jay had no idea that it had been bothering him as much as it did. But he’d grown so used to living with his secret, that the desire to tell and be truthful was hardly noticeable.

But now?

In a way, and it probably sounds corny as shit, but he feels free.

What little residual guilt he felt, even after Antonio found out, has disappeared. His boyfriend somehow accepted the news and went right along with it.

It’s probably what made Antonio such a great detective, but an even better undercover officer.

“Too far,” came a tired grumble before familiar hands were manhandling Jay so that he could rest his head on the other man’s chest.

“Better?” chuckled Jay, wrapping an arm around Antonio's waist.

“Much,” was the pleased hum as Jay felt Antonio began to caress his bare back in absentminded thought. He knew in the next couple of minutes, Antonio was probably going to ask something about being SEAL. He was kinda expecting it. Matt had been asking Kelly all sorts of questions throughout the evening. There’s no way Antonio didn’t have his own questions.

So, Jay laid there with his eyes closed, but not falling asleep. No need to rush the inquisition.

“I think we should tell Voight about us,” said Antonio, eyes on the ceiling.

“What?” Jay raised his head to look at his lover in confusion. He was not expecting that. “Where did that come from?”

Antonio met his gaze briefly. “It’s been nice being out, right? Not having to hide us . I can kiss and hug you whenever I want. I don’t want to hide us. Not after the last few hours of not having to do so.”

Jay stared, trying to get a read on Antonio, but even still. It was hard to pick up much of anything. “Even if that means one of us has to leave Intelligence?”

Antonio shrugged. “Being with you, sharing moments together as us, not detectives Dawson and Halstead, that’s what matters, mi cariño. And if I have to go to Vice or Major Crimes or even return to the beat? I will.”

“Oh my god,” said Jay, sitting up and straddling Antonio’s hips. He reached a hand up and placed it on Antonio’s forehead to take his temperature. “Are you serious right now?”

“Completely,” laughed Antonio, taking Jay’s hand and pulling it down to kiss bruised knuckles. “I’m not sick, mi bombón.”

“Tonio…” said Jay doubtfully, meeting happy eyes. Jay understood where Antonio was coming from. Just earlier he was saying how much he loved not having to hide who he was. At least not to his partner and new friends. But that didn’t change anything (thank god!).

Talking to Voight could mean being separated at work. It’s not like they were often paired up together. And technically, they did have different partners. Also a plus in their corner was that they’ve been dating for months already and it has yet to affect their work performance.

But still…. still . Voight was an enigma, even if he did allow exceptions in the past. Would he allow it for him and Ton-

“Marry me, Jay.”

Jay’s eyes widened. “What?”

“I’m serious. Marry me.” Antonio sat up, pressing their chests together. Their height difference was never more apparent than in that moment as Antonio continued to look up into Jay’s eyes. “I don’t want to hide who we are to each other, and I don’t want us to be separated. The fact that your commander knew that we were dating was the only reason why I got an invite to this impromptu vacation. But when we get back, if anything happens to you- I wouldn’t be the first person to be notified. It’ll probably be your brother. But he won’t know to reach out to me and-

Jay kissed him.

“Jay,” protested Antonio, but he also didn’t really try to move away. He loved when Jay initiated kissing. Antonio always felt encompassed in Jay’s love. Even when initially Jay’s height bothered him and he had to tilt his head up. However, since their first kiss, Antonio felt nothing but love for the taller man. It may have taken him a while to notice, but he’s known and will tell anyone who asks.

He loved Jay Halstead, secrets and all.

“Yes.” Jay pulled away from his lips and started kissing all over his face. “Yes, I’ll marry you, mo grah!”

---

Eddie closed Christopher’s door and was surprised to see Evan standing in the hallway with his arms crossed over his chest, looking at the ground in thought. They, and by 'they' it was really thanks to Evan's somehow good luck in winning rock-paper-scissors of all things, that they got to stay at the McGarrett house. His Evan, and yeah, Eddie said it. His Evan had been so petty when he grinned triumphantly at Kelly, who didn't even look completely upset. But seeing him so deep in thought now, almost as if he was worried, did not sit right with Eddie.

He went to stand in front of Evan to the point his chest was flushed against crossed arms. Blue eyes jumped up and met his.

Yeah, his Evan was worried.

“I’m not mad, Ev," he offered, giving him a fond smile.

“You’re…not?” Evan looked doubtful.

“No.”

“Then why have you been so quiet?”

Eddie tilted his head as he saw all of Evan’s worries and fear flash across his face more noticeably. “Just reconciling that the you I’ve known and this other you, a goddamn SEAL, are the same person. If that’s alright with you?”

“Oh. Oh!” Evan bit his lip, looking to the side before meeting Eddie’s eyes again. Eddie hope that his bit of sass might get the blonde out of his melancholy vibe, but ever the lovable guy that he was, he still looked worried. “And what do you think about that? Me being a SEAL?”

Dios mio! Has he really been that bad in expressing what he thought on the matter that Evan was worried he'd be upset about the man being a SEAL? Perhaps the only upsetting thing was that Evan was Navy, but he could get passed that. It wouldn't make or break their relationship.

“Hot,” grinned Eddie, finally- finally, startling a laugh out of Evan. Evan dropped his arms, standing up straighter. Both their chests were now pressing together, and Eddie loved how that felt.

“Is that right?” Evan asked huskily with a sharp grin.

“Evan, I cannot even begin to tell you how hot I find it. The other day when I saw you on that video call, gearing up?” Eddie shivered.

Evan’s sharp grin weakened as he blushed. “You’re messing with me.”

“No,” he shook his head. “Evan, listen to me. I would take you to our room right now, and show you exactly what ‘SEAL you’ does to me, but Chris is here. The others. And by the time I’m through with you, your voice is going to be so sore. I want to hear every single sound you make as you come apart. Do you understand?”

Eddie watched in fascination as Evan’s blush went past his collar as the blonde began to pant softly. To be honest, what happened next, Eddie hadn't planned on it. But it wasn’t his fault. His Evan was just too irresistible.

Putting his hands on Evan’s hips, he pulled their groins together so Evan could feel just how turned on he was.

“Eddie,” gasped Evan with a whimper, his hands grabbing onto Eddie’s biceps. “Please.”

“I asked you a question, soldier. Do you understand me?”

“Yes.”

“Yes, what?”

Evan whimpered again as his eyes shuttered shut. “Yes, sir.”

Eddie grinned, leaning up just so their lips were barely touching. “Good Puppy.”

---

Deciding to take a shower, Kelly left Matt in their hotel room. He'd purposefully lost the game earlier to decide who would check into a hotel. Jay caught on pretty quickly, but Evan, bless their youngest brother, he did not. Though, the blonde did have a knack for winning usually, he had been particularly petty earlier. Kelly left it alone and took the gift that his loss truly was.

Hotels in Hawaii were expensive, and while he wasn't poor, it also made sense to get one hotel room with a single bed, right? When he'd been booking his room, Jay and Danny, were next to him helping him. Danny was providing him options and locations that were reasonable, and Jay was being a nuisance and suggesting smaller sized beds so he and Matt would be forced to cuddle. Kelly politely told Jay to 'fuck off, and even in a King there'll be cuddling'.

Tilting his head back, he rinsed off the mission the way he always did in the past. He started with letting water run down his form before he got soap and started on his chest and worked his way through. He knew he unloaded a lot on the fire captain today. Not only the fact that he is a SEAL, because once a SEAL- always a SEAL, but that kiss.

Now, Kelly has kissed lots of people. He had a history after all, but none of his past kisses even came close to what it felt like to kiss Matt. Not even with Stella.

It wasn’t that Matt was his first man, he wasn’t. Kelly was an equal opportunist. He’s had men, women, nonbinary. Pansexuals have their freedoms.

What made things different this time was that it was Matt. The man he’s worked side by side since he got out. The man he’s trusted at his back in a fire. Sure, his SEAL team, in a fire fight, hands down who he would want with him. But in an actual fire? Evan maybe- since he was also a firefighter, but always Matt. Matt, who was there when Shay passed away. Matt, who always made sure that he considered all angles before he hunted down an arsonist. Matt, who made him laugh. Matt, who wrangled the squad boys with no problem because he earned his rank of Captain and their respect. Matt, who didn’t give up on him even when he was figuring shit out with Gabby.

It took being away for a whole month for his head to see Matt for who he always was, the love of his life.

And once he realized how he felt about Matt, he saw that they’d been dancing around it for a while now. Which was why he didn’t even hesitate at the hospital to pull the blonde onto his lap and kiss him.

There was a knock on the bathroom door, pulling him out of his head.

“Kells, you okay in there?”

Kelly turned off the water and grabbed his towel. “Fine. Be out in a sec.”

“No rush, it’s just been a while. Take yo-

Kelly opened the door, towel secured around his waist. Too soon to be coming out fully naked, not that Matt hasn't seen it all before. Kelly had no shame, but he did respect the blonde.

“-ur time. Or not.” Matt’s eyes caught on the water making its way down Kelly's chest and to the towel. Kelly loved and hated that they’re used to seeing each other half naked. Working together in the same firehouse, everyone tends to see each other in some state of undress practically every other shift. Kelly missed seeing Matt’s blushes from the early days simply because Kelly was shirtless.

A soft touch had Kelly tense slightly.

“This scar is new.”

It was. Kelly had taken a knife wound during their first week here. It’s mostly healed, but still a little red.

Kelly shrugged, leaning against the door frame and crossed his arms. Matt's hand still rested over the scar. “Should see what the other guy got for his troubles.”

Matt’s head jerked up in surprise. “What?”

“Don’t come at me, if you can’t take it back,” he grinned, flashing a cocky smirk. Kelly’s eyes widened slightly as a little bit of red graced Matt’s cheeks. Was Matt turned on by the thought of Kelly being- Kelly mentally smirked. He could work with this. “He came at me with a knife, I got the knife from him and showed him the proper way to use it.”

“Holy shit. Kelly!” gasped Matt, taking an abortive step forward, his hand dropping.

If it weren’t for the dilated eyes, Kelly would’ve been a little worried he said too much. But Matt’s reaction wasn’t upset. He was…turned on.

Oh this, this Kelly can definitely work with. He dropped his arms to hang at his sides, ready for anything.

“Matt,” he said, grinning as he took a step forward. Matt didn’t break eye contact, but took one step back. “Are you…” Kelly took another step forward, Matt took another step back. “...turned on…” Kelly stalked Matt towards the bed with an ever growing smirk. “...at the thought…” When Matt’s legs hit the back of the bed, Kelly’s hand snapped out quickly, pulling on Matt’s shirt so the blonde wouldn’t fall backwards. “...of me hurting someone?”

“N-No!” Matt sputtered, his hands coming up to grab Kelly’s biceps.

Kelly’s eyes dipped down. “Your body says differently.”

Matt shook his head. “It’s not that!”

“Oh, then what is it?” Kelly pulled Matt against him so he could rub their noses together. “You can tell me, I won’t tell anyone.”

“Don’t be cute, Kelly,” pouted Matt, putting a hand on Kelly’s chest in a mockery to hold him off.

“I told you, I give back what I receive. And right now, you're cute, Matthew Casey.” Kelly’s eyes sparkled as the blush on Matt’s cheeks spread. “Extremely cute.”

-----

Danny leaned against Steve as they waved goodbye to Steve’s old team and their families. It had been nice to get to know them all during their time in Hawaii. While he was recovering from his kidnapping, he needed someone else to keep Steve in line with his shenanigans. In fact, it had been only three days when there was a call from the Governor regarding a new case.

“No, tell him we’re closed,” pouted Danny. And yeah, he’ll admit he pouted. Steve was weak to his pouts, he knows it for a fact because it was the only way he ever gets Steve in a tie.

Though why his husband never willing wore a tie after he knows the fun that can come with a tie, Danny just left it to Steve doing dumb shit as he pleases.

“Danno,” sighed Steve, giving him puppy dog eyes in return.

“Steven, Kono is still on trip, as is Lou, and Chin woke up yesterday. Let’s not forget I’m still healing myself. The task force is closed, whether you like it or not.” He crossed his arms, and stared Steve down.

Gracie, who was helping Evan in the kitchen, laughed. “Give up, Papa SEAL, Danno has spoken.”

“Wait,” spoke Antonio much to Danny’s distaste. Not that he hated the other detective, the complete opposite. But the man was about to counter argue with him.

“Shut it, Chicago.”

Steve shushed him, the nerve! “I wanna hear what he has to say.”

Chuckling, Antonio held up his hands in surrender. “Well, I was going to say, didn’t you deputize three SEALs who could assist?”

The room paused and turned to Danny who snorted. “Absolutely not. We are not setting loose a bunch of SEALs who are either A, insane- that’s you babe,” he patted Steve’s hand reassuringly. “B, chases Arsonists when bored.” Matt laughed at Kelly’s affronted look. “C, probably has his picture in the dictionary next to the word ‘brutal’, or D, is shrouded in the worst luck ever.”

Jay held his hands up and Evan pouted.

“Shots fired,” said Christopher Eddie, Antonio, and Matt's ever growing amusement.

“Which we’re trying to avoid,” said Danny pointedly at the four SEALs. "For once, can't we just leave it to the police?"

Jay grinned, eyes sparkling in mischief. “Yes, of course. But, you also have two certified Chicago detectives here too.”

Danny paused, looking at Antonio and Jay, remembering that they were police, even if one of them was still an aforementioned SEAL. But before he could argue anything, Steve was already hustling them out the door. “Good point, Chief! Let’s go. Bye Danno, Gracie, Charlie! Love you!”

“Steven!” shouted Danny after his husband. Eddie patted Danny’s shoulder consolingly as the door slammed shut.

“Don’t worry Danny,” said Matt as he kissed Kelly’s cheek before getting up to help Charlie color. “Antonio and Jay know how to paint inside the law.”

“Usually,” tacked on Kelly, loud enough only for Matt to hear.

And thankfully, it was a case easy enough for the three of them to handle and have wrapped up by the end of the following night. Of course, Danny did give Steve the cold shoulder for a few days.

On day three, Eddie asked for how long Steve was going to be in the dog house.

“Honestly, I’m not even mad at him anymore.”

“Then why the cold shoulder?”

Danny sighed. “Because he doesn’t listen. If I forgive him easily, then he’ll do more stuff that he knows that I don’t like.”

Eddie nods. “I get that, but isn’t this manipulative?”

“Oh definitely. But I think I get a pass since, well…everything.” Danny waved at his injuries.

Later that evening, Danny did talk to Steve after he came into their bedroom with a kicked puppy look. They spoke and as always, kissed and made up.

Overall though, it was definitely nice to get to know Steve’s team, but the bonding he had with the other partners probably was the best part. It was nice to talk to someone else who understood what it meant to be the partner of a SEAL. Even if they were all at different stages in their relationships. Though, what a surprise it had been when Jay and Antonio’s engagement was announced. They’d been in Waikiki, enjoying the afternoon sun as they did some window shopping and enjoying the area when Antonio stopped and pulled Jay into a jewelry store.

“What’s going on?” asked Evan, his arm around Eddie’s shoulders. "Hey Chris, slow down a bit."

“No clue,” shrugged Matt who had been talking to Jay before he was pulled away.

Before they knew it, two grinning detectives walked out with matching rings.

“What is happening right now?” asked Danny, slapping Steve's arm repeatedly.

“We’re engaged, is what’s happening,” laughed Antonio, holding up Jay’s hand with his new ring.

“What!” gasped Evan, reaching over and grabbing Jay’s hand. “Holy shit, congrats Chief! You too, Tonio!”

Which turned into a massive group hug in the middle of the sidewalk to other tourists’ confusion and distaste.

“Well, clearly we need to go celebrate now,” grinned Steve, directing their group toward the restaurants. Danny saw how Eddie watched an excited Evan, before the Texan put an arm around his son’s shoulders and asked him something softly. The moment Chris nodded and grinned at his dad, Danny suspected there’d be another engagement on the horizon.

But now with their two weeks quickly gone, the others had to return back home. Danny made sure to get everyone’s numbers and was quick to make a groupchat with Antonio, Matt, and Eddie. Christopher, Gracie, and Charlie were all told if they needed anyone, they were to reach out no matter what.

Danny was thankful to his new friends for the unwavering support they gave the children. The complete opposite of what he had when he first came to this godforsaken pineapple country.

“You ready, Danno?” murmured Steve into his hair. On the man’s other hip sat Charlie with his head on Steve’s shoulder upset that his new friends were leaving.

Danny pulled Charlie’s thumb out of his mouth, offering his son a smile. “It’ll be okay Charlie.”

“Danno,” he pouted, making grabby hands. Danny took the small weight, wincing slightly, but he was healed enough to hold his son, exactly as he told his husband who was starting to fuss.

“C’mon Gracie,” sighed Steve, holding his hand out for her to take. They began to make their way out of the airport.

“Hey Papa SEAL?” asked Gracie, putting Steve’s arm over her shoulder as she curled into his side, also upset, but not as outwardly as her little brother.

“Hm?”

“Can we get ice cream on the way home?”

Charlie gasped, head snapping up and almost head butting Danny if hadn’t moved his head quickly. “I’e cream!”

Notes:

For the record, they did get ice cream, yes.

And boom. That's how the Spouses Groupchat was born~

Hope it was everything y'all hoped it to be when you were asking- nay, demanding (lol) to know how it all got started.

Now, as we know, there's so many potential stories and snippets that can have their own fics in this story-line. As I can, I will write them and I will post them.

I hope you keep coming back for more~
