Chapter Text
Bon didn't really listen to anything his teacher was saying. Why should he ? The information that is currently being given to the other exwires and exorcists was nothing new for him.
Konekomaru, Shima and himself were one of the first to get informed about the attack that had taken place on their home.
Taken place on what they were guarding.
The story of the Impure King was nothing new to raven haired, and neither was the information of what they assignments were on this trip. So instead of wasting energy listening to info he already had, Bon turned his mind to more interesting topics.
Like the fact that he would have to deal with his family and the rest of the Myōō Dharani-
Nope.
The teen could feel his stress levels rising above what should be normal or was healthy for a boy his age just thinking about what awaited him.
So as an alternative to thinking of what felt like imminent doom, the exwire decided to take a closer look at his classmates around him.
Kamiki's looking as grumpy as always, Moriyama on the other hand was listening to the information they are given, eager to memorize every bit of it.
Well, that already covered the female base of their class. That only left Shima and Konekomaru to be studied. The two in question however weren't all that interesting either.
Shima had himself distracted with one of his magazines, which- as sad as it was - didn't really suprise Bon all that much. Atleast the teen had the decency to cover up the cover 'art' of the magazine. Even if was just to avoid getting hit by Kirigakure-sensei or Kamiki should they discover his.....reading material.
Konekomaru on the other hand had "uneasy" written all over him. To everyone else he seemed completly normal ofcourse, a little stiff maybe but that could easily be explained with him concentrating and taking in all the information.
Ofcourse Bon knew that that couldn't be the case. Konekomaru already knows everything being said here. And not only that, but his friend had his hands clasped together and pressed on his lab.
He only did that when he was nervous or uneasy.
The exwire didn't have to think very long about the reason for his friends behaviour. It was as clear as day to anyone who was unfortunate enought to have been present during the paladin's visit.
The paladin was an utterly intimidating man, there's no use in denying it. Even Bon himself felt like an lamb to the slaughter during the brief clash with him.
Konekomaru must have seen his life flash before his eyes when he took the brunt of it. Especially if you consider the fact that due to his smaller than average height, the blonde towerd even more over his friend than he did over them.
"How is it even possible for a regular human to be so intimidating !?" Bon asked himself in his mind. He would expect that from a demon or something, but not from their paladin.
He didn't look intimidating at all before in the short timeframe they saw him in the forest, it's like a switch was flipped !
Okumura-sensei mentioned that the paladin was protective over them when Kamiki asked. But Bon didn't expect such hostility to go with it.
Although...... well he could have infered it from the way his teacher talked about him.
"Arthur-nii is very concerned about the safety of those he loves, but especially about Rin-nii's and mine. I suppose he has grown a bit overbearing as the years passed, and especially after our late father died he grew all the more concerned" Okumura-sensei explained with a sigh.
The exwired were still huddled around him, closely listening to everything he said. No one wanted to miss a piece of information, not when their mind were still filled with thousands upon thousands of questions.
Rin Okumura and Yukio Okumura were nephilim, although it had to be said that at this point the older twin was more demon than human (if he wasn't a full demon already). Their teacher on the other hand seemed to be fully human, although that could always change should powers surface.
And if that already hadn't been a shock, their demonic parent was no other than Satan himself. And Rin had inherited his father's powers.
Had they been told that their friend was not only the child of what may well be the worst being in all of the universe, but also had inherited the powers of said being yesterday ? Well, Bon would have laughed it off as a bad joke.
But now ? Now that they had seen the flames that served their friend- had seen what he was capable off ? As embarassing as it was to say, Bon found himself afraid.
Afraid of what would happen should Rin go beserk- or god forbid, decide to go rough.
The exwire knew very well that neither him, his friends and maybe even all of the Myōō Dharan could ever stop Rin. Infact, Bon doubts that anyone he ever knew would come close to the sheer level of power his friend must have.
Rin Okumura could destroy everything Ryuuji Suguro ever knew and loved, and it scarred him more than what he'd like to damit.
Moriyama had something other than the bone rattling realization of Okumura's power on her mind thought.
"If the current paladin is your older brother does- does that mean he's a son of Satan too ?"
Huh, Bon didn't even think about that. It was the logical continuation of all the information they had however. So he could understand his classmate's thought process.
Okumura-sensei shook his head though. "No, Arthur-nii isn't biologically related to me or Rin-nii. He's fully human."
"So....he's adopted ?"
"Not- not exactly....."
"But if he isn't biologically related to you and he isn't adopted either, then how is he your brother ?" Shima asked the question. Bon had half a mind to ram his elbow into his friend's side. Asking how someone was your brother if they weren't related by blood or adoption was anything but polite, the teen was sure.
Okumura-sensei just took a deep breath in and a deep breath out.
"Well it's complicated...... legally speaking Arthur-nii was the charge and student of our late father, and is mine and Rin's legal guardian. We were raised as siblings, though. I suppose Arthur-nii just started calling us his brothers at some point.
Rin-nii and I can't remember any time in our life where Arthur-nii wasn't there or hadn't called us his brothers. Our father never said something when Arthur-nii called us his siblings, and didn't really mind when us two started to call Arthut-nii our older brother either.
He's always been with us, since we were kids. So it's become normal. Although I do admit that Rin-nii always seemed to be closer to Arthur-nii than I was"
Bon noticed a hint of bitterness in his teacher's voice at that last part, but decided not to press on it.
"But the late paladin never adopted him ?" Shima questioned once Yukio finished, which earned him another jab from Bon, this time harder.
Okumura-sensei gracefully ignored the pained yelp and question of "what was that for !?"
"I'm not quite sure of the exact reason to be honest. But believe me when I say that the late paladin tried" Their teacher admitted.
"A r thur-nii considered him his father, even if he never called him it. And I'm more than sure that our father viewed Arthur as a son. Our father mentioned something about the Vatican blocking his attempts at formal adoption- something about legal statuses and transfering rights and all that stuff."
Kamiki , who had stayed relativly quiet this whole time finally let out a sound, and in true Kamiki fashion it was an annoyed 'hmpf' .
"That's total crap, didn't you say that your father already had the current paladin as a charge ? And from what you are telling me he clearly loved you all and you loved him back. Why the hell wouldn't the Vatican want the late paladin to adopt him !?" It almost sounded like Kamiki was personally insulted by the Vaticans apperant dislike of the paladin being adopted.
Bon did admit that it was sketchy as hell though.
Okumura-sensei could only reply that he didn't know.
"Arthur-nii never found out about what our father wanted to do. I suppose it was supposed to be a surprise initially that blew. I'll ask you to not bring it up with Arthur-nii or Rin-nii however. It's too late to contemplate what-if's now anyway and.... well I don't know how Arthur-nii will react"
Bon's flashback ended when the teen noticed how he had starred into the air these past few minutes. He shook his head, and noted that (luckily) no one seemed to have noticed the trip his mind took. Still, his thoughts wandered back to the topic he was just thinking about.
The family tree of his teacher and friend seemed to be a whole other level of messy. Bon was genuinly suprised at how open Okumura-sensei was about it all.
If Bon's adopted father was the late paladin, his biological father SATAN HIMSELF, his oldest brother the current paladin and second oldest brother a demon owning the power of blue flames ? Well, let's just say he wouldn't have been as open to the questions of noisy teens.
Luckily for their curiousity though, Okumura-sensei was of the opinion that his students deserved some answers after what had happened in the camp.
By now the briefing was finally ending, and the students were informed that they'd arrive in Kyoto in a few minutes.
Taking a deep breath, the exwire grabbed the luggage he had with him and got ready for what awaited him in Kyoto.
