Chapter Text
After the day was over, Edgar and Fang walked together with Colette, Buster, and Maisie to the bus, and the first two sat together again. Fang gave one earphone to Edgar once again, and they listened to music. This time, no embarrassing songs came on, luckily.
Edgar's scarf tapped his legs at the rhythm of the music, and Edgar didn't seem to be able to stop it, but he didn't care that much.
Suddenly, the bus driver swerved rapidly, making everyone almost fall, and making Fang almost fall over.
For just a moment, Fang looked a bit confused, especially when he realized that Edgar's scarf had catched him, stopping him from falling. But, before they could even realize what happened, the moment ended because they got to their stop.
They quickly grabbed their things and got off the bus, Edgar saying goodbye to Colette and Fang to Buster and Maisie, and then they were alone.
— This way… Also, I have to warn you, my room is a bit of a mess, ok? Don't mention it
Edgar said, heading towards his house, a bit embarrassed. After all, he wasn't expecting anyone to see his room at all, so he didn't even think about cleaning it up a bit.
— Yeah, alright, got it
Replied Fang saluting like a soldier, smiling, and winking at Edgar. They both still had the earphones in, so the silence wasn’t awkward at all – They had the music to solve that.
— You have nice music taste, by the way
Edgar said, not looking at Fang, just still looking up ahead. They were just one block away from his house, so they didn't have much of a walk left.
— Oh, actually, Colette made this playlist… She put the Emo boy song in it! Not me!
Edgar looked at him with an eyebrow up again, and at that, Fang elaborated
— She said you would prefer dying with the bus sounds rather than my music! It's not like it was my idea…
He said, proudfully scoffing as if he had made the best defense ever. Edgar just suddenly turned left, going to his house's door, but it took Fang a couple of seconds until he realized that Edgar wasn't walking at his side anymore.
Edgar silently laughed at Fang walking alone, and upon hearing him, Fang quickly turned around and ran back to Edgar.
— Why didn't you tell me we were already here!?
— Because i wouldn't be able to see your face after i disappeared from your side
He said, still giggling. He took the earphone out and gave it back to Fang while he opened the door to his house. Fang got a bit red at what Edgar said, but Edgar wasn't paying attention. As they got into the house, Edgar left his backpack next to the door on the floor, and Fang almost started taking his shoes off before he realized that Edgar didn't.
— There's no one home, by the way. My mom doesn't come back from work until late at night.
Edgar said, walking up some stairs, to his room. Fang followed right after him. As they got to the rooms door, Edgar realized that he didn't really want Fang to see how untidy it was.
— Actually, can you wait a second here? In case you want to go, the bathroom is just that door there
He said, pointing at the door at the end of the corridor. Fang nodded.
— Of course, man. And thanks
Edgar nodded back and got into his room. There were clothes at the end of his bed, and there were empty bottles at his nightstand. He grabbed all the clothes and folded them as quickly as he could, and started putting them back in his closet. He also started grabbing the cups and throwing them on a trash can he had there.
Meanwhile, Fang went to the bathroom, closed the door, and looked at himself in the mirror. He sighed and started basically celebrating. He moved his hands quickly up and down, doing little steps while staying in the same spot. He actually was hanging out with him! And he actually didn't hate him!
He calmed himself down and washed up his face a bit. He fixed his hair, looked at himself to see if he looked ok, and then got out of the bathroom and back to wait at Edgar's room door. Just as he leaned on the wall, Edgar opened the door again.
— Come in.
And so Fang followed him inside. Edgar closed the door and giggled a bit.
— Woah, your room is sick! You have a whole lot of post-
And then Fang saw them. Edgar was smiling maliciously at him, and he had both his snakes up on his shoulders. Fang almost fainted.
— What? What's wrong?
Edgar said, still smiling at him. Fang swallowed thickly and backed up a bit, putting his hands up.
— Nothing! Nothing, actually, uh… Fuck, dude, you're gonna make me pass out!
Edgar chuckled, setting them down and back at their little enclosure. Fang visibly relaxed, and Edgar just kept giggling to himself.
— Well, let's go make lunch, shall we?
He said, while he took his rings out. As cool as he wanted to seem, after a while they inevitably got uncomfortable. Fang, without letting Edgar notice, stared at his hands. He had his nails perfectly painted, and he just had to appreciate that, right? In a totally normal way.
— Yeah, let's go
Replied Fang, turning around and staring at the snakes’ enclosure, stepping back and opening the door behind him. Edgar followed and got out too, closing the door.
— I don't have much. I usually eat alone so I barely got food anyways.
Edgar went down the stairs and over to the kitchen, Fang being behind him at all times. Edgar got over to the fridge and grabbed some cheese and ham, closed it, grabbed some bread from the counter, and started making two sandwiches. Fang just watched, unsure of what to do.
— Are you here to stand there and look pretty? Grab some cups from the cupboard and serve us some juice, karate kid
— Yeah, right- Hey!
Fang looked at him jokingly angry, and Edgar stared at him the same way. Fang started to do what Edgar told him and served them both some juice in two different cups, and when he looked back at Edgar, he had the two sandwiches in a little Tupper, and he had that same malicious smile he usually did when he was about to make Fang hate him.
— I bet 10 dollars that you won't catch me
— What?
And so, Edgar ran away as quickly as he could. With the two cups in his hands, Fang quickly ran behind him.
Edgar, with his scarf, jumped over and grabbed the upper floor's railings, propping himself up and getting to the first floor without going through the stairs. Edgar stopped on top of the railings and smiled at Fang, who was staring at him with his mouth open in shock.
— How the fuck did you-
— You haven't even seen the best part of my daily routine yet, you better hurry up
And so Edgar ran to his room. Fang, with no time to even think about what daily routine implied, ran quickly up the stairs and wondered how did the cups still have the full amount of liquid in them.
When Fang got to Edgar's room, Edgar was sitting on his window, with his legs out. He smiled and then jumped off, Fang's face dropping in shock instantly at that. He ran over and looked out the window, when something hit him in the head.
Edgar was on top of his roof. Hanging over so he could be able to hit Fang. After that, he went back up and Fang couldn't see him anymore.
— Hurry, come up!
— No way I will! Are you insane!?
Edgar was already sitting down on top of his house, as calm as someone can be. He knew Fang wouldn't want to do it, so he had an ace up his sleeve:
— No balls
And so he heard Fang grunt. He smiled.
— Ok, i'll do it, but come grab the cups at least, scumbag!
Edgar walked up to him and peeked over, Fang looking at him with a frown, his hands extended with both cups in them. Edgar grabbed the cups with his hands, his scarf keeping him up, and walked away without saying a word.
Fang then slowly got his feet up in the window, and started to stand up. His head peeked over, and he could see Edgar's back facing him, sitting down on the roof. He muttered out a curse, and with both his arms, he propped himself up on the roof. He put one of his legs up and jumped over, landing perfectly on the roof.
He walked over to Edgar and punched him in the head, sitting down next to him. Edgar smiled a bit.
— Wow, you're so awesome, you did it
— You're actually insane. I can't believe I'm letting you get away with this.
Edgar handed fang one of the sandwiches and one of the cups, not even looking at him, just looking straight forward. Fang accepted it and started eating, his frown going away as he munched.
They both shared most of their sandwiches in silence, looking over all the houses and trees.
— Do you really do this everyday?
Fang suddenly asked, looking at Edgar. They were pretty close to each other.
— Yeah, it's not like I've got a lot to do. Sometimes Colette comes over, she likes being here too.
Edgar adjusted himself a little, his hand barely touching Fang's. He didn't notice that, though.
— It's nice up here too. It may surprise you but I do like sunlight
— That's an actual surprise, yeah! I always thought you, like, bit anyone who came near you too or something
Edgar looked visibly offended. He chuckled a bit and looked at Fang too.
— Dude, I'm not a furry! But, to be fair, I thought your egocentric-pretty-popular boy personality was real, too.
Edgar replied, shrugging. Fang was honestly surprised to hear that. Not only did he not know he was that obvious, but also this had to be at least the second time Edgar had called him pretty. He got a bit red at the thought.
— Well, I guess now we know, right?
— I guess so
And the comfortable silence fell on them for a few minutes again. Until Edgar stood up and stretched. The little hand-to-hand contact they had for the past few minutes wasn't noticeable until then, the wind making the loss of the heat source very noticeable.
— We really should start that project, shouldn't we?
— Ugh, I guess… you better not get your snake out again!
Edgar tried to hold his laugh in, but he busted out laughing. Fang realized the double meaning and rolled his eyes, standing up
— Yeah, yeah, very funny, now let's go-
As he stood up, he slipped, almost falling. Edgar catched him with his scarf, again, and helped him get back on both his feet.
— Oh my fucking god- dude, I'm getting out of here, if I slip again I'm not only falling but I'm also going to have a heart attack
He said, carefully going back to the window with his cup in his hand. Edgar followed right behind, chuckling.
They both got into Edgar's room again, and Fang sighed. They still had a whole project to do.
