Chapter Text
Masha woke up with a headache and began to stir, before realizing they felt weighed down and unable to move. They slowly opened their eyes and saw their beautiful basilisk draped across their chest, snoring away. They gave a soft smile and used a hand to gently move Vee’s bangs out of her face, causing the woman to stir slightly before opening her eyes. She slowly blinked awake as she registered what, or more specifically who, was touching her hair. Vee smiled at her spouse before giving them a kiss on the cheek and nuzzling back into their chest.
“Mor’n,” Vee mumbled, causing Masha to giggle.
“Morning, gorgeous.” Masha replied. “Sleep well?”
“Like a baby!” Vee yawned. “You make a very comfortable pillow, did you know that?”
“Glad I’m wife approved,” Masha teased.
“Damn right you are!” Vee shot back. “Every day with you is the best day of my life and I never want this to end.”
“First, gay.” Masha smirked as Vee rolled her eyes. “Second, me either. So I guess it’s a good thing we got married yesterday.”
“I’m still trying to fully wrap my head around that,” Vee stated. “I’m your wife. You’re my spouse. We’re married! Someone…wanted to marry me.”
Masha barely heard Vee mumble the last part under her breath, causing the enby to frown. “I feel the same way, you know?”
“What?!” Vee shot up in shock.
“I never thought there was anyone out there for me,” Masha explained. “I meant what I said yesterday, I was the lonely outcast sent to a camp for children who need to learn to separate fantasy from reality. I thought that at best I’d make a few friends who were like me and the two of us would keep in contact periodically as we moved on with our lives. I thought I’d be a witness to people meeting the one and being happy, while I was stuck alone forever. I thank the goddesses every day that they brought you into my life, Vee. I mean it.”
“Masha…” Vee said with tears in her eyes. “That’s the gayest fucking thing I’ve ever heard in my life!”
“You’re impossible!” Masha smacked Vee with their pillow as the two erupted into laughter.
“But really, I feel the same way,” Vee explained. “Making that split second decision to go through the portal was the best decision I ever made. Who knew that I would fit in better in a completely different realm?”
“Seemed to work out for Luz, too,” Masha commented. “You, the demon who crossed realms to marry a human, and her, the human who crossed realms to marry a witch. It’s like you’re twins!”
“Can you tell her that? She keeps calling me her younger sister!” Vee huffed.
“Twins can have a younger sister and an older sister,” Masha teased.
“We don’t know when my real birthday is!” Vee insisted.
“But you celebrate it on the day you were officially adopted by Camila,” Masha stated. “Which iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis”
“Don’t say it!” Vee growled.
“Is after your older sisters!” Masha finished, before getting smacked with the same pillow they used earlier. “I deserved that.”
“Damn right you did!” Vee scowled, before shifting back to a soft smile. “But you know what else you deserve?”
“Cuddles and kisses?” Masha gave their wife their best puppy dog eyes.
“Exactly!” Vee leaned in and connected her lips with Masha’s, the latter gladly accepting. After what was not nearly enough time for the poor enby, Vee pulled away while Masha leaned forward to try in vain to keep their lips connected. “Eager for more already?” Vee teased.
“Always,” Masha answered. “I can never get enough of your kisses.”
“Well it’s a good thing you get a lifetime supply of them now!” The basilisk smirked while wagging her tail slowly.
“Good, I need a day to just lay around and cuddle,” Masha sighed.
“Nuh uh, Babe, we’re not just sitting around all day, we got plans!” Vee insisted.
“Plans?!” Masha shot up in shock. “Since when?!”
“We have a week to ourselves for our honeymoon, and as much as I love just laying around to cuddle with you-”
“Exactly, so that’s settled!” Masha pulled Vee back into their arms, before Vee shifted into a smaller form to wiggle out, then shifted back.
“We’re taking advantage of this week to ourselves to go have some fun!” Vee pulled the covers off of Masha to urge them to get up.
“You think you know a girl until you marry her,” Masha teased. “I can’t believe the woman I married is the adventuring type!”
“I had to run from the law after escaping my imprisonment by the people who are the reason I even exist in the first place,” Vee deadpanned. “My entire life has been an adventure.”
“All the more reason you should just settle down and take a breather once in a while!” Masha insisted. “Come on, there’s always tomorrow! Aren’t you still tired from yesterday?”
“Nope!” Vee quickly replied with a smirk. “It’s surprisingly refreshing to sleep on your spouse all night and now I’m wide awake and ready to go!”
Masha fell back and put their pillow over their face with a sigh. “FIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine, you win!”
“YAY!” Vee jumped for joy. “Come on, let’s get dressed, Amity’s expecting us to come over and borrow her airship in a few hours.”
“How the heck did you manage to convince her to let us borrow her airship?!” Masha shot up in shock yet again.
“Sister-in-law privileges!” Vee smirked.
“That’s not how that works!” Masha threw their hands up. “Isn’t that like government property or something?! Don’t we need a permit?!”
“Eh, she built it herself,” Vee waved it off. “Besides, we kinda
are
the government after saving the entire realm from Belos. Who’s gonna tell us no? Lilith? Eda? Cause if anything, Eda would encourage us.”
Masha snorted. “Yeah, yeah she would. I need to remind her that she’s literally the coolest person I’ve ever met.”
“Wow, even cooler than me? Your own wife?!” Vee faked a mock offense. “I’m wounded.”
“Oh hush!” Masha rolled their eyes.
“Make me!” Vee waggled her eyebrows.
Masha, never one to back down from that kind of challenge, leaned in and gave their wife another kiss. “Don’t threaten me with a good time.”
“Oh I did and I will!” Vee smirked. “But come on, we need to get going before we get distracted again!”
“Dangit, you’re too smart for me!” Masha sighed. “One day you’ll slip up and I’ll get you with the offer of kisses and cuddles.”
“Yeah yeah, one day, but not today, babe.” Vee got up and started getting dressed for the day.
Masha resigned themself to having to do this and eventually pulled themself out of bed to get dressed as well. Once the two were ready, they headed out towards the spot Vee and Amity agreed to meet up at. It turns out, they were a little early, something Masha didn’t miss a beat to groan about. Vee had to remind them that if they didn’t get here early, someone would have gotten too comfy and caused them to be late instead. Masha tried to deny that fact, but they knew that they wouldn’t be fooling anyone and decided it would be best to just find some way to pass the time instead.
“Hey, at least the shops that used to be regulated to the night market are free to set up during normal hours now, thanks to Eda,” Vee stated. “Why don’t you go do some window shopping while we wait?”
“Good idea, the Isles always has some cool substitutes for wiccan stuff,” Masha replied. “Alright, just give me a shout when Amity gets here!” They ran off as they waved to Vee, who waved back.
Vee decided to just sit down and enjoy the sights and sounds going on around her as she waited for her sister-in-law to show up. The thought of coming to the Isles was scary at first, as it was the place she was tortured and chased out of. But once she got over that hurdle, it became another safe place for her to just be able to be in her basilisk form without worry of anyone freaking out. After Belos was defeated, Lilith helped track down the other remaining basilisks and with the help of Eda and Luz, the Isles were told the truth about their origin and how they weren’t automatically evil. The only people who needed extra convincing were the students and facility at all the schools Number One terrorized before Luz, Viney, Jerbo, and Barkus took her down.
Once everyone was assured Vee and her basilisk siblings weren’t a threat to anyone, the other two began reintegrating into society while Vee stayed with Camila. She still occasionally visits them, as she does see them as the three of them do consider themselves siblings due to their upbringing. Eda employed them at her university of magic to help teach classes on demons, as she always felt a hands on demonstration beat book learning any day of the week. Vee comes by every now and then to check on them as well and is invited to take part in the demonstrations when she does. As the only one of the three who had given herself a human form that wasn’t just a copy of someone else, she could offer a unique perspective that her siblings couldn’t.
Just as she was getting lost in her thoughts, she heard the voice of the person she was waiting for. “VEE! SORRY I’M LATE!”
The basilisk looked up to find her sister-in-law hovering her airship above the shops. “HEY AMITY! YOU GONNA LAND THAT THING OR-” Before Vee could finish, Amity threw a rope over the side of the ship and slid down it to land next to her. “Show off.”
“Oh please, it’s just much more fun to do it that way!” Amity insisted. “Also, I don’t have a permit to land here.”
“You…what?!” Vee shouted. “You agreed to meet here!”
“Well yeah, there’s not a lot of good places you can access that I have permission to land in,” Amity explained. “So it was easier to just pick what was most convenient for you and just, well…” the purple haired witch gestured at her airship above their heads.
Vee rolled her eyes. “You Noceda-Blights are so extra!”
“Hey, you’re a Noceda too!” Amity teased. “And it’s not like your spouse is innocent either! Speaking of, where is Masha?”
“I told them to check out all the shops that used to be reserved for the night market while we waited for you,” Vee explained. “I’m sure they heard the commotion and are on their way back by now.”
“You Blights sure know how to make an entrance!” The two turned to find that, just as Vee suspected, Masha was walking up to them. “Do any of you know how
not
to be extra?”
Amity rolled her eyes. “Just be grateful you never had to meet the woman I used to call mother.”
Masha raised an eyebrow. “That’s a weird way to talk about your dead mom.”
“Oh no, you misunderstand,” Amity explained. “She’s not dead, she’s just dead
to me!
Unfortunately, she’s very much alive.”
“Ooooooooooooooookaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.” Masha turned to Vee. I feel like there’s some context y’all forgot to tell me.”
“All you need to know is that Odalia Blight is a horrible human being who didn’t deserve to have the people she got to call her husband and children,” Amity huffed. “And that the world is better off with her crawling in a ditch somewhere.”
“Wait, is she really-”
“Don’t know, don’t care!” Amity interrupted Masha. “But enough about my ugly past, you two have a honeymoon to go on! Just climb this rope and have at the controls! I’ll meet you back here in a week!” The witch started wandering off back to her house.
“Amity…” Vee sighed. “We don’t know how to pilot this thing!”
Amity stopped in her tracks and tilted her head in confusion. “What, like it’s hard?” She was met with a glare from her sister-in-law. “Just teasing, Vee! Alright, follow me up, I’ll give you the tour!”
Masha and Vee watched as Amity quickly climbed up the rope, something the goth pointed out the witch was super good at. After making a comment about Amity being super athletic and how hot that was, Vee elbowed them in the side and reminded them that’s their sister-in-law, which caused Masha to laugh. Once they were done teasing each other, the couple took their turn climbing up the rope as Vee found a way to get back at her spouse. She insisted Masha went first, so that she could enjoy the view, something that Masha didn’t have any intention of complaining about. Masha insisted that they knew they were hot and loved every second of their wife enjoying what they called her staring privileges.
Once all three of them were on the ship, and Amity shared some looks that told the others she knew exactly what they were up to, the purple haired witch got to explaining the different controls of the ship. It turns out, much to Vee’s surprise, that Amity wasn’t kidding about how straightforward controlling the ship was. Just to ease the basilisk’s nerves, Amity agreed to supervise a test flight around Bonesborough to make sure they had gotten the hang of flying the ship. Vee and Masha took turns with all the different controls so that they would both know what each and every lever did, just in case. Soon enough, they made a safe and successful loop around the city and ended up back where they started.
“See, you two are naturals!” Amity said once they parked the ship. “Now, if you don’t mind me, I’m going to leave you alone for real.”
Vee rolled her eyes as she saw Amity slide down the rope and wave them off. “Well, clearly she’s eager to let us have our alone time, so who are we to prevent that?”
“Don’t mind if I do!” Masha leaned in and gave Vee a kiss, one the basilisk gladly accepted, until she could feel Masha trying to deepen it and pulled away. “Who said I was done with you?!”
“Settle down there, fido!” Vee teased. “We’ll have plenty of time for smooching when we get to our first stop. Come on, we’re burning daylight!”
Vee ran to the controls and set the airship in motion once again, while Masha rolled their eyes at her. Since Masha had no idea where they were going, having not been filled in on the plans other than to “have an adventure,” as their wife put it, they decided to leave Vee to steering while they made sure everything else stayed in tip top shape. Turns out, there’s only so much to do when you’re traveling a much longer distance than the practice run they did earlier and before long, Masha was completely bored. Knowing that they couldn’t bother their wife for fear of distracting her while she’s trying to steer the ship, Masha resorted to sightseeing. Normally, this would give them a hint as to where they were headed, but the enby hadn’t had much of a chance to fully explore the Isles in the last ten years.
While it wasn’t helping to figure out where they were heading, Masha did have to admit that the view was pretty. Of course most people would find the view terrifying, as it’s mostly the skeleton of the Titan or other various demonic looking things. Masha was, of course, far from being like most people and was taking in everything before them like they died and went to heaven. Of course, they could have said that happened yesterday when they married the love of their life, but then a certain family member of theirs would call them gay. They would then remind that certain family member that she had no room to talk with the way she acted around her own wife, of course.
“Watcha thinking about over there, babe?” Vee snapped her spouse out of their thoughts.
“Just how pretty you are,” Masha sighed, causing Vee to blush and almost lose control of the ship.
“MASHA, NOT WHILE I’M DRIVING!” Vee shouted after regaining control of the ship.
“Who knew after ten years, I can still easily fluster you just by complimenting you,” Masha teased.
“Shut up!” Vee squeaked. “And if you want to make sure we survive being married for more than a day, you need to warn me next time or I’ll make us crash!”
“You’re the one who wanted adventure, don’t blame me!” Masha smirked when they saw Vee glare at them. “OK, OK! For real, I was thinking about how beautiful the view was and then my mind drifted to the fact that we got married again, but can you blame me?!”
Vee laughed. “No, I get it, I’m still getting used to it too. Titan, remember when we gave Luz and Amity shit for this? If they find out we’re being just as bad, we’ll never hear the end of it!”
“I was also thinking about how your sister would be giving me shit for being gay, and how I’d have to remind her she was just as bad!” Masha laughed. “But yeah, she’d be insufferable if she knew we’re just as love struck as her and Amity were.”
Just as Masha was about to settle back in for some more sightseeing, they heard Vee call out. “We’re here!”
Masha quickly ran to the front of the ship, next to Vee, and looked out to see…”A field?”
“Not just any field!” Vee explained. “We’re right next to some old ruins Lilith told me about! I figured we could take a break here for some lunch first, then we could go exploring!”
“You want to have lunch…in a field?” Masha raised an eyebrow.
“What’s wrong? Don’t like picnics?” Vee questioned.
“How romantic!” Masha teased. “But actually, that sounds kinda nice.”
“I’m glad!” Vee smiled. “Let me just land this baby real quick aaaaaaand, there!”
“Oof!” Masha cried out. “You need to work on your landings a little bit!”
“Hey, it’s not like Amity taught us that part!” Vee protested. “I’d like to see you try it next time!”
“Gladly,” Masha insisted. “Just, you know, after you tell me again that we’re at our next stop, since I have no idea where we’re going for any part of this trip!”
Vee laughed as she grabbed the picnic supplies she brought, before jumping off the side of the ship.
“Wait, when the heck did you get those on the ship?!” Masha asked. “I was with you when we got on board, you didn’t have any on you…also we had to climb a rope!”
“I warned Amity ahead of time of this plan too,” Vee explained. I worked with her beforehand to get everything ready.”
“...WE WERE GETTING MARRIED YESTERDAY?!” Masha shouted in confusion. “When did any of you have time to plan this?!”
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” Vee teased as she brushed her tail against Masha’s chin in the way she knows makes them shudder.
“I very much would, and your distractions aren’t going to…” Masha shuddered at the contact of Vee’s tail on their chin. “To distract me with that…I’ll ask you later.”
“Come on, food’s getting cold.” Vee winked before putting the basket down and setting up the blanket.
Masha walked over to help their wife set things up before they sat down across from each other and started digging into the food. As much as Masha was confused about how Vee had planned this picnic under their nose, while they were at their own wedding no less, they knew when they lost an argument. Masha rolled their eyes as they saw Vee had once again packed the monstrosity she called ✨the sandwich✨, another argument they knew they were never going to win. Vee at least put some meat on the sandwich she had packed for Masha, something they were grateful for. As much as they loved their wife, they were never going to eat that abomination to the culinary world ever again.
Once they were done eating, the couple cleaned up the picnic and started walking towards the ruins. Masha had to admit, as much as they wanted to just take it easy for a few days, the idea of exploring old ruins in the demon realm was an offer they couldn’t pass up. Once Belos was officially defeated, Lilith had made sure that the exploration of ancient sites was no longer restricted in ways that prevented proper study and sightseeing. The old emperor had made sure that only the witches he knew were under his total control had full access to ancient sites, with everyone else needing permits that were impossible to get. Belos was worried that someone would stumble upon something that could reveal too much about his past and had made sure that only witches he knew would never betray him had access to them.
Lilith’s love of history had made exploring these ruins her first priority once they were open for all once again. She had partnered with Amity to create airships based on Alador’s plans, something the man was excited to work on with his daughter, in order to make the exploration faster and easier. Vee knew that Masha would have a blast taking a look at some of the ruins themself, so she went to her sister-in-law and sort of aunt to ask for their help in setting her plan in motion. Being the self proclaimed Cool Aunt that she is, Lilith immediately procured a list of her favorite ruins to explore, which was unfortunately way too many for Vee and Masha to explore in one week. Vee struggled to convince Lilith to narrow the list down, but after a long afternoon of what felt like pulling teeth, she finally got a list that would work for her needs.
“Wow!” Masha’s jaw dropped as they made it to their destination. “This is amazing!”
“It really is!” Vee agreed. “I knew Lilith would come through for us! Now, are you ready to explore your first ruin in another realm?”
“You bet your cute ass I am!” Masha smirked as they saw Vee blush yet again.
“You’re lucky no one else is here!” Vee glared at their spouse.
“What’s wrong, babe? I thought you loved it when I complimented you?” Masha teased.
“There’s a difference between calling me cute and calling my butt cute!” Vee insisted.
“Oh, do you not want me thinking your butt is cute?” Masha continued to tease.
“That’s not what I mean and you know it!” Vee insisted.
“Of course, whatever you say, darling!” Masha smirked and ran forward.
“HEY GET BACK HERE!” Vee shouted as she ran after them.
The two continued running, giggling the whole way, as they ran by various remains of old structures. They eventually slowed down to admire everything in front of them as they took in the history of their surroundings. The remains were so decayed that it was hard to tell what their original purpose could have been, whether business or residential, but just standing here among them was cool enough as it was. Vee popped her head inside a doorway to see if she could find anything interesting to inspect as Masha looked around another corner. Vee was given a lecture from Lilith on what the assumed history of this place was, but she would be lying if she said she didn’t zone out a few times during her aunt’s ramblings.
“These seem way too big to live in, don’t you think?” Masha asked after wandering back to their wife.
“I mean, maybe?” Vee shrugged. “For all we know, witches and demons of old could have packed their whole families into one house. I think I remember Lilith saying something about that.”
“Zoned out during your aunt’s lecture again, huh?” Masha smirked.
Vee rolled her eyes. “Luz is the one that enjoys backstories, not me! Don’t get me wrong, I love talking to Lilith, but she can be a bit much.”
“No wonder she and your sister get along so well!” Masha teased.
“Hey!” Vee yelled, with a smirk on her face showing she wasn’t really upset. “Only I can mock my sister like that!”
“Sorry babe, you married me, that makes her my sister now too!” Masha insisted.
“But you’re her sister through marriage!” Vee argued. “I’m her sister by…”
“By otherworldly adoption?” Masha smirked. “You’re not her blood sister either!”
“Yeah…well…pttttth!” Vee blew a raspberry at her spouse.
“Real mature!” Masha rolled their eyes and laughed.
“You knew what you were getting into when you agreed to marry me!” Vee smirked back.
“And I wouldn’t want it any other way!” Masha sighed as they grabbed Vee’s hand and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
The two spent the rest of the day exploring the ruins while enjoying each other’s company. Once it started getting dark, they made their way back to the airship so they could find somewhere to stay for the night. Masha’s fear of them being forced to sleep on the ship turned out to be unfounded when Vee revealed that she plotted out hotels for them to stay at between stops. Once they made it back to the ship, they set off towards their destination, ready to get another good night's sleep before heading off to their next adventure the following day. Masha had to admit, this ended up being a way nicer idea than just staying in bed all day and they couldn’t think of a better way to spend their honeymoon with the person they loved.
