Chapter Text

The garden was even more beautiful up close. She slowly walked through the large flowers, getting lost in wonder and fascination.

"Goodness me, everything is so big.... I'm the same size as this rose bush." She mumbles and looks around, "Oh dear... Did I lost the rabbit again?"

Charlie huffs and quickly walks further, down the path and into the woods. She continues walking past the tall imposing trees and careful not to trip on the rocks and stray branches.

The forest was eerily quiet, save for the chirps of the birds, soft rustle of the trees, the sound of her footsteps and mumbling.

Hold on.

Mumbling?

Charlie stops walking, straining her ears to listen again. Surely she must have heard it correctly, was it the rabbit girl?

"Millie please, you can't be serious."

"Oh come on Mox, it can't be that bad."

The blonde furrowed her brows and followed the voices. She sneakily hid behind a tree, peeking slightly to see a small clearing and it wasn't hard to spot the two people. Well, to say people is a bit much. They look like one yet they have bright red skins, with horns and tails. They're about as tall as first graders (which is exactly her height at the moment).

"Are you sure?" Says the one with white hair.

"Yes hun, now come. We should hurry." The female grabbed the guy by the hand and excitedly drags him.

Charlie quietly follows them, hoping to know more about this place and to know if the rabbit girl was heading the same place as they were. Besides, they seem to know what's going on and it seems better than getting lost in this place. Everything seems so weird and dream-like.

Dream. Now that she thought about it, it does feel like a dream. With the rabbit, the hole, the doors, the man on the wall, and the two beings she's currently following. Maybe she's just asleep, or just dozed off. But that wouldn't necessarily explain how she can feel pain from falling. Nor the pinpricks on the grass under her bare feet, the soft gush of cold wind through her skin and taste of cherry-tart, custard, pine-apple, roast turkey, toffy, and hot buttered toast that is still on her tongue from the drink she had from earlier. Wondering how it seem to taste like a whole full course meal and her stomach started grumbling.

"Was that you, Mox?" The dark haired, Millie, turned to the other and asked. Mox only shook his head and they both turned around.

Charlie felt her ears turn red, having been caught in the most embarrassing way. She wishes the ground could swallow her up as she stepped in to view. "I'm sorry, I was a bit lost..."

The blonde jumps a bit as she heard a squeal and immediately her hand that was previously wringing in front of her got yanked in a vigorous handshake.

"Ooohhh! It's so good to see a new face! Hello, I'm Millie and that's my husband, Mox! What's your name?" Millie excitedly says, having maintained her grip on Charlie. Moxxie came up from behind and gently yanks his wife off the poor dear.

"Sorry about my wife. My name is Moxxie." He extends his hand and it took a minute for Charlie to process before she gingerly accepts the greeting.

"M-mine is Charlotte, but you can call me Charlie." She smiles at the two.

"Did you say you were lost Charlie?" Moxxie lets go as Millie asks. Charlie nods, feeling a bit comfortable talking with the couple.

"How'd you get lost?" Millie tilts her head curiously at Charlie.

"O-oh.. Well, I was just minding my own business when I spotted a girl... rabbit. She was babbling about her being late and took off running. I followed her in to a rabbit hole, and then I dropped inside a hall full of doors, met a nice man on the wall that had me drink something and then I happened to stumble upon you two after losing her at the garden." Charlie smiles sheepishly at the two. Saying it out loud was more weirder than it was in her head.

"Oh! You mean Niffty? The gal's always hoppin' about." The couple doesn't seem surprised. Just smiling in understanding.

"You can come with us Charlie, Niffty might have passed by the Hatter's place. Mox and I were going there actually." Millie jumps up and down with a happy grin before turning to her husband. "She can come with us, right hun? We can't just leave the poor darling."

He considers for a seconds before chuckling, "Well, I guess it wouldn't hurt."

"Alright! Come on let's go then! The party's about to start!"

Charlie smiles and follows beside Moxxie and Millie skips infront of them, talking about the party.

This isn't so bad.
