Chapter Text
“So, your saying that your dad may never be able to play volleyball again?” Anaashi nodded, looking down at the ground. “Yeah..” Anaashi replied.
“Damn.” The two were heading towards Oila’s house for the sleepover that Anaashi’s pa recommended. Anaashi was still a little upset still about her pa trying to push her out but she also understood that she would be returning to the hospital the following week. She smiled at the thought. She was finally going to be free from it. “Hey, should we do what we always do?” Oila asked. She moved her eyebrows up in down and smirked. Anaashi rolled her eyes smiling. “Fine but this time we both also have to study.” Oila’s shoulders dropped. “Aww man..” Anaashi smiled. It was always nice hanging out with Oila. “Should I invite Sammy as well?” Oila looked at Anaashi a little shocked. “You havent heard?” Anaashi groaned rubbing her head. “What else have I missed?”
Oila laughed. “No, no. She’s on a date~” Anaashi’s eyes widened. She blinked a few times processing what she’d just heard. A strong minute passed before Anaashi said, “What? Why? Who? When?” Oila swung her hair behind her shoulder and she popped a bubble that she’d been blowing from her bubblegum. “She’s out with K.O.N.O.R.E-”
“No way..” Anaashi’s mouth dropped wide open. Her best friend was out dating her brothers best friend?? Talk about weird-
They both stopped in front of Oila’s house. The two walked up the steps and Oila typed in a code that the front door had. She swung the door wide open and yelled. “PAPAAAAAA!!! DADDDDDDD!!! I’M HOMEMEMEMEMMEMEME!!!” Anaashi facepalmed. Was she surprised? No.
Oila checked her phone to see what time it was. “Hm. It might just be us!” “Okay.” Oila threw both of their things on the couch. “Now let’s forget about everything thats happened these past few days, weeks, moths, whatever! Let’s just forget about all of that!” Anaashi sarcastically agreed. “Ooo we should cook!” Anaashi crossed her arms over her chest and stared at Oila.
When it came to cooking Oila would always find a way to start a fire. “I’m not sure.. I mean you do the opposite of what the oceans supposed to do.” Oila looked at Anaashi confused until it hit her. Ocean. Fire. Together…
“Hey!! Don’t bring my labling into this!” Anaashi gave Oila a bored expression. “Not like you don’t always do that to me.” Oila stuck her tongue out.
“Meanie.”
“Sure.”
Anaashi then smoothly passed by Oila and pre-heated the oven. “Alright. What ingredients do we need?” Oila smirked and took out her phone. “Okay, so I was thinking about it and we should totally try to make a bundt cake.” Anaashi nodded. “Okay, but what are the ingredients?” Oila hummed to try and by herself some time.”Okay here!” She said handing it to Anaashi. “Can’t you just read it to me?” “Ughhh, fine!” Oila turned her phone around and began reading the ingredients;
INGREDIENTS FOR THE CAKE
Cooking spray, for pan
1 1/2 c. (3 sticks) butter, softened
2 c. granulated sugar
4 large eggs
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract (optional)
3 c. all-purpose flour
6 tbsp. cornstarch
2 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1 c. whole milk
“Did you get all of that?” Oila asked while turning around. To her surprise Anaashi had already prepared everything that they needed. “Alright! Let’s get started.” And with that, the two girls began cooking together like old times.
But obviously it can’t be an actual nostalgic cooking experience if Oila didn’t traditionally almost burn the house down…
So as expected.
She burned the oven and eggs.
“How do you even burn eggs!?” Began lecturing Anaashi. Oila was looking down on the floor, avoiding eye contact with Anaashi. “I don’t know..” Anaashi rubbed her temples and sighed. A few seconds later the two began breaking down in laughter. “Wow, I'm really getting deja vu..” Oila began saying. Anaashi tried to agree but laughter overtook her.
“DING!” The oven began blinking signaling that the bundt cake was ready. Oila and Anaashi had been playing truth or dare while they were waiting and they had just been wrapping up. Talk about perfect timing. “Anaashi, you take the cake out of the oven.” Anaashi turned around and tilted her head in annoyance to Oila. “Why me?” “Because my fake nails-” Oila brought her hand up showing beautifully fake nails the color blue and themed with waves.
Anaashi looked at her dumbfounded as she turned off the oven. “Is that how the eggs caught on fire?!” “Pffft! Whaaaaat-” Before Oila could finish Anaashi brought up her left hand showing a good chunk of her nails burnt. “For the love of- just give me that.” Anaashi took a green kitchen mitten from Oila and put it on. She then grabbed a thick towel and opened the oven revealing a nicely cooked bundt cake.
“Not bad.” She said while smelling the cake. Oila leaned over to also take a sniff. “Oooo I can’t wait to eat this!”
Anaashi grabbed a big plate and then flipped the pan over causing the beautiful cake to fall onto the plate. She then proceeded to flip the cake over again so it was facing the right way.
Oila just watched in amazement as Anasahi did all of that. because..Oila.
“Oila can you start making the frosting?” Anaashi asked. Oila quickly snapped out of her trance and nodded. “Right. Yes. Cake=frosting. Okay!” She began searching the kitchen for the icing mix. Eventually she remembered that it was in the fridge. With a fast hitting on the head and a groan, Oila ran over to the fridge and swung it open revealing the frosting pack. “Hehehehe.” She said embarrassed.
After taking the icing out and placing it on the counter she walked over to the other side of the kitchen to grab a few knifes for her and Anaashi.
“Wow you actually did it.” Anaashi teased. “Ughhh shut upppp!!” Anaashi giggled. “Would you like to do the honors on placing the first icing?” Oila gasped in surprise. “Why of course!” Grabbing the knife Oila grabbed a chunk of the icing and began slashing it on the cake. Anaashi wasn’t sure whether she should’ve been disappointed or just not surprised. But soon enough Anaashi also began slashing icing on the cake. And then of course it ended up turning into a war.
The two looked at the finished product. “Not bad if I do say so myself.” Anaashi nodded as she politely stuffed more cake into her mouth. “It’s actually not the worse. huh. Good job Oila you didn’t totally screw it all up.” Oila huffed and crossed her arms. “Thanks.”
They left the rest of the cake on the counter and walked up to Oila’s room. “Okay. Did you hear about the new school that we’re gonna have to go to?!” “The school for celebrities? We’re actually invited?” Oila shook Anaashi crazy. “DID YOU FORGET WE’RE LIKE THE ONLY GIRLS LIVING HERE??? WE’RE BLESSED FROM GODS!” Anaashi stopped Oila from shaking her and looked behind her. “Hi uncle Oikawa-” “My PoOr NiEcEeee!” Oilas pa hugged her tightly completely ignoring his own daughter. “Uh-pa??? Hello I’m here too?” “Shush you! You’re not the one that almost died!” She scoffed, crossing her arms. “Oikawa, let poor Anaashi go your gonna kill her yourself.” The uncle quickly let go, scanning Anaashi. “Hi uncle Hajime,” Hajime was Oilas dad. “Hey kid.” He gave her a slight nod. “Okay baby you know who to call if you need something.” OIkawa said standing up. “Okay bye uncles thanks for letting me stay over.” Oikawa winked at her and shut the door on his way out. Oila huffed. “What loving parents I have.” Anaashi giggled.
It was around 2:00AM, and Oila and Anaashi were in the middle of playing truth or dare. “Okay! My turn.” Oila cheered. Anaashi gulped. “Oh no.” Oila silently giggled. “Alright, I’ve got it. You ready?” Anaashi shook her head before Oila ignored and continued anyway. “I dare you to call the second to last contact on your list and call them saying, “I can’t believe you’d do something like this..” And then hang up!!” Anaashi groaned. “Would they even answer this late at night?” Oila shrugged. “Only one way to find out!” Anaashi slapped her face but nonetheless, took out her phone and pulled out her contact list, scrolling through all the options till she reached the second to last person. “Oh-Shit..” Oila gasped. “Anaashi cussing?? Oooo! Must be a good one. Who is it?” She looked over Anaashi’s shoulder before throwing into a fit of laughter. “Omg!! You have to Konore?? Sammy’s gonna fip!” Anaashi rolled her eyes and lightly punched Oila.
With much force, Anaashi clicked the call button, letting it ring a few times before someone had picked it up. “The hell?” Konore groaningly said. Oila covered her mouth and silently died of laughter in the background while Anaashi prepared her speech. “I can’t believe you’d do something like this..” “Huh-” Anaashi quickly hit the hung up button and covered her face. “Bokunoo’s gonna kill me. Or Sammy. We’ll see.” Oila wiped away the tears that had been forming. “Aw man, that was priceless!” She gasped. “What?” Anaashi asked. “We should rewatch Mean girls!!” Anaashi looked over at Oila’s big tv and nodded. “Sure.”
Anaashi was out like a lightbulb after the movie and Oila was too. Oikawa tip toed to his daughters room and silently opened the door, being met with two girls sleeping on each other. “Awww.” He whispered squealed. He took out his phone and took a few pictures before shutting the door again and heading back to his own rightful room.

Anaashi rushed over the next day to the hospital. Oila followed closely behind. “I-it’s so cold!!” Anaashi sniffled a bit. Her nose obviously runny from the chilly weather.
The two girls checked into the front desk before making their way up to their first stop. Her dads room. Oila gave her bestie one last hug before waving and heading back to the elevator. Anaashi cleared her throat and knocked ever so lightly on the door. “Come in.” A quiet voice said. She gladly walked into the room finding her dad still in a hospital-
“Dad!?” She exclaimed. Her dad was standing against the wall on one leg and jumping up in down. A bit of sweat dripping down his face. “What! aren’t you supposed to be resting??” Her dad stumbled a little forwards before wiping off the sweat that had slightly formed on his face. “Well kinda but your pas not here so nothings stopping me.” Anaashi looked completely confused. In a way, she was. “Ok dad. You do you but PLEASE be careful.” “Yup!” He exclaimed sitting on his bed again. “So, what brings my baby owl here to my lovely den today?” Anaashi rubbed the top of her shoe to the ground. “Can I talk to you?” Her dads expresión looked more serious as he sat down and patted the side of his bed. Anaashi gladly took the offer. “What’s up kiddo?” He questioned. Anaashi didn’t even know where or how to begin. “There’s just so much happening right now. It’s really overwhelming me.” Her dad tilted his head a bit. “Like what?” Anaashi took a shuddered breath. “School exams are coming up, we just got into a car accident, Bokunoo looks like he hates me, you and Bokunoo might not be able to play your favorite sport again, and my surgerys in less than 6 days and I’m scared that something will go wrong. Nothings been good lately and it’s driving me nuts I want to cry and just-“ she could anymore. Tears were beyond threatening to spill out like a waterfall.
She took a breathe she forgot she so desperately needed. She looked down waiting fore her dads response. Instead, she received a tight hug. “Baby owl, you’re allowed to cry. You know that right?” Water dripped from her face and she dig it into her dads shoulder. He gently rubbed her back. “Everything may seem bad and backwards right now but you’re not alone. You’re overthinking everything and getting the wrong idea.” She tried swallowing. “Bokunoo could never hate you boba, you guys are far to close for that.” Anaashi sniffed. “But-“ “Sh, let dad talk first alright?” She nodded. “No one hates you. You’re surgery is something that everyone’s emotionally and physically excited about, and good news is that there’s a higher chance that I can play volleyball again. So not all is bad no?” Anaashi nodded. Her dad wiped her tears. “And if there IS something going on between Bokunoo and you than I more than believe you two will be able to fix it up in no time! All siblings have ruff spots. We just gotta remember that no matter what happens. At the end of the day, you two shared a womb.” Anaashi slightly giggled. He gave Annashi a kiss to the head and patted her back. “If I were you I would go and talk to Bokunoo on how you’re feeling. Clear some things up between you two.” Anaahi nodded and wiped her tears. “Okay, thanks dad.” Her dad grinned and ruffled her hair. Anaashi pouted and tried to refix it. “No problem owl. Now go!” Anaashi jumped off the bed and began walking towards the door when both Anaashi and her dad jumped back. “OH my god!! Keiji you gave us a heart attack.” Koutaurou pouted. Keiji rolled his eyes and gave Anaashi a kiss to the head as well. “Just finished checking on Bokunoo.” He looked between Anaashi and Koutaurou. “And I strongly encourage you two to indeed have a talk.” With that Anaashi rushed out and headed over to Bokunoo’s room. She knocked a few times before hearing a rough, “Come in.” She swung the door open with grace and walk in, making sure to be quiet to not attract too much noise. Bokunoo aggressively rubbed his eyes and turned his head over to his sister. “What?” He asked. Anaashi looked down. “May I sit?” Bokunoo raised an eyebrow. “Yeah? You don’t need to ask.” Anaashi sat down and looked over to him. “So, um. Have you heard any new news about-” “No.” He cut her off. Anaashi nodded and bit her lip. “Bokunoo,” “Yeah?” Anaashi took a shaky sigh. “I’m really sorry.” Bokunoo furrowed his brows. “Anaashi, like I said-” “No. Not about that. I’m sorry that I made you mad or hate me, or whatever it might be.” Bokunoo sat up and cracked his neck, slightly wincing at the uncomfortable feeling it returned. “Ana- I don’t know where you got this entire i’m mad at you from but I promise that i’m not.” Anaashi was about to speak but he quickly continued on before she could. “None of what happens to me, or dad, or pa for a matter will be your fault.” Anaashi tried looking away. Bokunoo got up and Anaashi quickly jumped up. “Bokunoo what are you-” Bokunoo grabbed a crutch and tried wobbling around the room. “See? I’m fine.” Anaashi hesitated. “Please, sit back down. You’re scaring me.” Bokunoo scoffed. “Our whole life scares me.” He mumbled. Anaashi swallowed hard from his words. She tried to raise her voice but nothing came out. Instead, the two sat in a deep going silence throughout the room. “Your surgery’s tomorrow..” Bokunoo softly said. Anaashi nodded. Feeling a strange poke on her shoulder that caused her to look up. A smile crept up her face. “I bought you a good luck panda plush.” He handed it towards her and she glady accepted the offer of the big, fluffy, panda. “I’ll try to be there with you if I can. But I’m not too sure if the doctors will let me move much.” He looked down. Guilt fuelling his top emotions to the fullest. “Hey,” Anaashi spoke out. “Like you said yourself. It’s not your fault and besides,” She tucked her hair that had been falling behind her ear and stood up. “This is supposed to be a good thing happening. No?” Bokunoo let out a small chuckle that quickly turned into roaring laughter throughout the room. Anaashi slightly joined in on the laughter. “What??” She dared to ask. “Nothing, nothing. Just, glad we’re mostly okay again.” Anaashi looked down and smiled to herself. “Me too.”
They began wheeling Anaashi into the operating room. Her hairs spiked up like electric bolts and her brain felt like it was on the verge of exploding. Her pa was right next to her reassuring (mainly himself) her about the operation. Once they reached the doors her pa looked back at Anaashi one more time and held her hand tightly as they placed the sleeping mask on her. He rubbed circles around her palm as reassurance. Anaashi briskly began feeling her vision blur. The last thing she saw being her pa giving her a sweet peck to her head.
Anaashi barely awoke to the sounds of heart monitors decreasing. “Strange” She had thought. Who could’ve been dying so close by? It took her a few seconds to notice that she was slightly conscious and that the heart monitor most likely belonged to her own heartbeat. Her vision shifted from white light to a tone of blackness as she saw doctors yelling codes to each other and running some random injections into her. “Ow,” She could barely whisper before everything turned to a midnight blackness.
When she had woken up again she felt completely out of it. Her mind felt as if it had been inflated while the rest of her body ached like it had been stretched to beyond the point of just cracking. In all, she felt like crap. However, her heart felt beyond lighter than it used to and breathing felt a lot more human than it had used too. Her mind, even if feeling slightly distorted. Also felt clearer and fresh. As if she had just gone to the pool to cool out from the frying sun. she adjusted her eyes and blinked a few times until she could decently notice her surroundings. She first glanced to her right and had only been met with a nicely frosted window. And as she looked to the left- “Hey,” Anaashi dropped her mouth as much as her swollen body allowed her too. Bokunoo snickered. “How was your beauty rest dear princess?” Anaashi attempted but failed in trying to roll her eyes. Bokunoo handed her a cup of water and helped her sip from it. “How do you feel?” Anaashi grunted. Earning a good few laughs from Bokunoo. “Well, there’s good news and bad news that I for some “amazing” reason get to tell you.” Anaashi let out a quiet. “Huh?” Out before deciding that she would just stick to nodding or shaking her head. “Well, bad news, you’re gonna be under house arrest for a month or two and wont be able to get up without feeling like absolute shit.” Anaashi pouted, slumping down into her chair. “Goo-d n-new-s?” She forcefully let out. Bokunoo grinned at her. “It was a success and in fact went even better than expected. So, you’ll be absolutely “normal” after your recovering journey.” Anaashi sat there and stared at a wall processing all the information that had just been given to her. There was a knock at the door and scurringly entered both her pa with her broken dad. “Baby owl!” Anaashi squinted at all the sudden noises. “How’s my little princess doing?” Anaashi rolled her eyes and shook her head. “Dreadfully disorientedly exhausted.” Her dad laughed. “Well, good to know that you’re still alive.” Her pa walked over and gave her a kiss to her cheek. “Rest well. We should be able to bring you home in a day or so-” He gave Anaashi one of his rare-sweet smiles.
