You wake up to the sunlight coming in from your blinds, you turn to look at your phone to check the time “12:30 pm huh.”
You didn’t have to wake up early today like you did yesterday for the interview you’ve bombed. You wanted to stay in bed for the rest of the day, but your stomach had other plans, so you got up and headed to the kitchen. Your cat hopped out of her bed and followed, as you entered the kitchen you looked in the fridge searching for anything to consider brunch.
The fridge had nothing more than a couple of eggs and a pack of beer “damn when was the last time we went grocery shopping?” you wondered. After some back and forth with yourself, you decided to run some errands and stock up on items. You put on some comfy colorful clothing to move around in and grab your shopping bags, you feed Gigi and head out the door.
The sun blinded you when you stepped into the outside world, when your vision cleared you saw the lively bustling streets of the town. While you were walking towards your destination you spotted a familiar café “Oh that’s the Mew Mew Café.”
You weren’t in a rush like you were yesterday, so you decided to pay a visit to see the cats and grab some coffee and snacks. You walk in and are greeted “Hello, Welcome back.” Those tired eyes meet your gaze “Oh it’s you” the man says. “Ah me?” You pointed to yourself dumbfounded. “Yeah, you’re the one that rushed out of the café.”
You became flustered and broke eye contact “Oh sorry about that, that was rude of me.” He shook his head. “I get it, you were in a rush, and it was an interview after all.” You frowned a bit knowing that you didn’t get the job and left the café in a hurry for nothing.
The barista walked behind the counter to the register “So what do you want to order?” he asked. You walk up and give him the order you had last time but with a small chocolate cake and sit down at one of the colorful tables. Without much to do, you went on your phone “No emails huh, not even a response from the jobs I recently applied for.”
You set your phone down to look around the café. You already noticed how colorful the place the first time you set foot but with a closer look, it had cat scratchers and posts for the cats probably to keep the cats from scratching the chairs and tables. It’s almost baffling that a tired man in monochromatic clothing with a personality to match is working here. “Here’s your order.” You look up to see the tired man he hands you the order and you thank him. “Do you always give your customers their orders like this? Nothing bad I’m just curious” You look up at him with a curious look.
He just sighs “I always do this when the café isn’t busy, it’s nice to walk around and not stand at the counter all day.” You got flustered in embarrassment “O-oh sorry you probably get that question a lot my bad.” The barista just waves it off “You’re fine it’s not something I do often, so I get the question.” You relax for a bit and feel something brush your leg, when you look down you see the black cat from yesterday “Hello Deku, how are you?” You bend down to pet the black cat and he rubs himself against you.
“I just realized I’ve never caught your name,” you said while turning to the barista. He looked a bit surprised “Oh yeah, we’ve never formally met since you were in a rush yesterday, my name is Shota Aizawa. You tell him your name and he just gives you a stare which leaves you confused. “I already know your name since you have to give it to me for your order.” This leaves you flustered and feeling a little dumb “Well what if I didn’t put my actual name on my order huh?!” you pouted.
Aizawa raises a brow “So you're saying the name that you’ve given me three times is not your actual name?” You pause for a bit and take a sip of your coffee while averting your gaze “I’ll shut up now”. Your little pout earns a small chuckle from Aizawa before another customer walks into the store “I should get back to work so I’ll leave you alone to enjoy your cake.”
The Barista walked back to the cash register to take the customer's order leaving you with your uneaten cake, a full cup of coffee, and a very fluffy black cat. “It’s just you and me huh Deku?” you said while still petting the cat. Deku let out a meow before walking away letting you be truly alone. “Damn, even the cat left me.” You feel disappointed that the two things that kept you company just left so you decide to go on your phone and finish the rest of your meal.
Once you were done with your meal and ready to walk out the door to do your errands you noticed the line had grown pretty long “I wonder if he’s the only one here today to work the front?”. You leave the café and finish your day finishing your errands. When your roommate opens the door unexpectedly, you walk to your front door searching for your keys. “Oh, I didn’t see you there.” Your roommate was also surprised to see you in the hallway.
“Going somewhere?” you ask with a brow raised “Just going on a date.” Your roommate readjusted his coat. “Is it the red head or the blonde?” you said amused “The blonde one, I have a good feeling about this one!” Your roommate's eyes light up, you wondered if they were going to stay together for at least a few months. After wishing your roommate good luck you went into the apartment, placed down your bags, and began placing the groceries into their correct placements until your phone rang. You picked it up and it showed an unknown number you were hesitant to pick it up, but you did it anyway “Hello?” you answered. “Hello is this the correct number?” your eyes light up “Y-yes this is the right number” It was the company that you interviewed with a couple of days ago before the last one. “Ah yes I’m calling to you to tell you that we have concluded-” Your heartbeat fastened hoping that the result was in your favor “That we decided to go with other candidates, and we will keep you in mind in the future.” Your heart dropped at what you heard but you were not surprised about it, but it still hurts to hear it. “Oh um thank you I will keep that in mind for the future.” After saying your goodbyes, you hung up and walked to the fridge to grab some beer and sighed “Another fucking failure of a job hunt” and took a sip.
You scrolled through social media on your phone to distract you from another job fail and a post caught your eye. It was a job opening at Mew Mew Café for a barista position “That’s the café that the café that Aizawa works at.” Your mind wonders and fantasizes about working at the cat café serving customers with a smile, petting the cats, and then your mind wonders to the grumpy blacked haired male. You quickly snap out of it and slap your cheeks before hitting the link to apply for the position.
An hour or two passed after walking out of the shower, you grabbed your phone and noticed a message on the job site. Your eyes light up it’s a message from Mew Mew Café! “Hey I looked over your resume and it looks very solid and I wish to have an interview with you as soon as possible! What is your availability?” You giggle and do a mini celebration before replying “I’m available to come Monday at 10am for the interview if that’s ok!” Before you set down your phone you get an instant reply. “That’s perfect see you then!”
You went into bed with a goofy grin on your face looking at the last message on your phone feeling impatient for Monday to come around. You decide to text your roommate about the recent turn of events, and they give you a thumbs up and tell you that they’re not going to be coming home tonight “Heh I guess the date went pretty well.” Your mind wanders again to the grumpy barista again wondering how he’d react if you were his co-worker. “Eh, that’s another thought for another time” You turn off the lamp in your room and doze off the sleep.
“I hope this interview goes well.”
