Chapter Text
Will awoke to his alarm clock blaring at 9 o'clock on a sunny Saturday morning.
"What on earth is that noise?" Tom asked groggily, unhappy at being woken up so abruptly.
"I forgot to turn our alarm off." Will replied, slamming the off button and getting up to stretch. "C'mon, get up and get dressed. I'll cook us up some eggs. Which was it you like better, fried or scrambled? I can never remember."
Tom rolled back onto his side. "Just let me lay here for a bit. Also scrambled eggs are way better, William."
Will chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Alright sleepyhead, I'll meet you downstairs. Maybe I should do some baking today. Muffins, probably. Blueberry muffins. Or carrot would be nice too."
Tom only hummed in response, as Will made his way downstairs. Sunlight beamed down from the window, directly onto Tom's face. Sighing in defeat he slowly sat up and chucked the warm covers off himself and on to the floor. Rubbing his eyes he sauntered towards the closet he shared with Will. Most of the clothes in the closet that were perfectly ironed and hung neatly belonged to Will. Tom could never be bothered to fold his clothes half the time, and were mostly strewn everywhere much to his boyfriend's dismay. Quickly deciding he'd rather not sort through piles of his own shirts to find one that was actually clean, he pulled one of Will's t-shirts off the hanger and pulled it over his head. He threw on a pair of jeans and made his way downstairs catching sight of Will, who was sitting at the counter sipping coffee and playing sudoku. He glanced upwards to meet Tom's eyes and smiled in greeting.
"Are you wearing my shirt?"
Tom felt himself blush. "I didn't want to sort through my own clothes."
"You look cute. But don't toss just toss it on the floor when you're done with it okay? Actually put it in the hamper like a civilized human being." Will grinned.
Tom made his way over to the countertop giving Will a quick kiss on the cheek. "No promises. Are we still on for scrambled eggs this morning?"
"I needed my coffee first. And I was gonna wait for you anyway."
"Do we have any other plans for today? We've both been so busy with work and school, we've not had any time for ourselves in weeks."
"Actually I do have an idea Tom."
Later that afternoon, Tom found himself relaxing under the shade of a cherry blossom tree on top of a quilted blanket. Another one of Will's more brilliant ideas, a picnic date. He loved spending time outdoors and Tom was much obliged to join him. The spring air was certainly refreshing after spending so many days cooped up indoors with tons of work to be done. Tom was ripped from his drifting thoughts when he felt Will nudge his leg.
"I brought fresh strawberries for us. I cut them up and everything. Have some with me."
Tom sat up lazily as Will hovered the container towards him.
"Y'know what I was just thinking?"
"Hmm?"
"Why are they called blinds, if they do the opposite? I mean, they stop the sun from blinding you."
"Shut your mouth and eat some strawberries, babe." Will chuckled.
"I'm being serious," Tom pouted. "It's a legitimate question."
"I'm being serious too. I don't want to get swarmed by bugs."
Tom laughed pulling Will closer and leaning on his shoulder. "I suppose I'll just have to google that one later. Seems like a misnomer to me."
They both eased into each other, savouring each other's warmth after the long winter and settled into a comfortable silence. Everything felt peaceful. Spring had finally come again. Every once in awhile a breeze would blow by, carrying falling cherry blossoms with it. It reminded Will of something he could not place. But it didn't matter, because on that beautiful spring afternoon, cuddled up on a quilt and enjoying a picnic together, Tom and Will felt at ease.
