Wednesday 3:56 PM,
Oh no oh no! That lecture took longer than expected.. now I'm late!! Nakamura thought as he rushed to his dorm to grab his uniform and just barely connect his headphones to listen to music as he rushed to work
The same route he's been taking for the past two days, the same things, same plants, same empty streets, same turns and sidewalks, same person he always.. bumps into.. wait- he never sees anyone on his way, who was that? Never mind he's late and doesn't have the time to check or even apologize, even with the sound of music basically deafening him all he can really hear is his rapid steps to get to work.
Finally he made it! Nakamura quickly went to the employee room to change into uniform and mentally prepare again, the door opens and bell rings, signaling a customer, Nakamura was still toying with his apron in an attempt to tie it "Just a moment-!" He called from the employee room before very quickly walking out to behind the counter, there he's face with another challenge on top of his quiet panic over being late, a familiar face, a familiar and soft expression that somehow felt like home, Hirose..? "Hey! Nakamura right? I remember you from high school!"
"I noticed you walking- oh, well more running- down the sidewalk and kind of followed you!" Hirose continued while chuckling, Nakamura swore he just felt his heart skip more than at least five beats, did Hirose really recognize him even while he sped past, and follow him too!? "I - Uh, yeah! That's me?" Nakamura stammered out finally after a second "Wait was that you I bumped into?- I am so sorry Hirose I was in a rush because my lecture took longer than I thought and-" Nakamura began to rant before stopping as he heard Hirose began to laugh "Oh you're the same as ever Nakamura! You don't need to say sorry, we're friends! It's fine" Hirose smiled, Nakamura felt his face heat up and quickly tried to steer the conversation away from anything else that'd fluster him "Uh do you want a drink or anything..?" "Uh sure! I'll try.. y'know what just give me whatever you think I' like!" Nakamura nodded and turned to go prepare.. something, he didn't know exactly what so he just looked at whatever he was told customers liked best.
With almost steady hands, Nakamura finished and brought Hirose a strawberry milkshake, and watched a bit nervously as Hirose took a drink "Woah, this is really good Nakamura!" Hirose said happily after, he then paid for it, AND he added a tip, which Nakamura definitely noticed and definitely didn't overthink about for a moment, as Nakamura began to clean up a bit and expect Hirose to be heading out already he heard his voice again "So, what have you been up to recently?" Hirose asked as he leaned against the counter "Not much really..?" Nakamura replied quietly "Hm, well what're you studying, any interesting classes?" Hirose asked with a curious smile, God Nakamura felt so awkward right now "Well I'm trying to go for marine biology? It was a kind of impulsive choice though-" Nakamura replied again "Oh, that sounds cool! Y'know we should hang out sometime! Catch up and everything, are you free anytime soon?" "UH- I.. I'm actually studying a lot today so uh maybe another day..?" Nakamura automatically said, then immeditely regretting it "B-But if you wanted to hang out we definitely could!" He quickly continued "I think I still have your number saved from highschool.."
"Oh, I actually got a new phone so I have a different number now, I could just give it to you and you can text me whenever you're free!" Hirose said before quickly grabbing a napkin and a pen from his pocket and wrote it down before Nakamura could process, he wrote it down and handed it to Nakamura "Here, well I 'll go now, I'll probably come again soon, heh might even become a regular since your my friend! Bye!" Hirose said as he walked to the door and waved to Nakamura, who just felt his face turn red as he watched Hirose go "A regular, because of me?" Nakamura mumbled and smiled and giggled to himself, basically reliving his high school days where his crush on Hirose practically peaked.
Nakamura spent the rest of his shift listening to music and talking to himself, and basically going crazy all over again before going back to his dorm for yet another, totally decent and normal sleep!
