Chapter Text
After a few minutes, she pulled away from Soap and wiped her nose. “‘M so sorry.. I’ll get on goin’ gettin’ you another shirt.” She didn't turn her back to them, walking to her brother's bedroom upstairs.
Trying to avoid looking at her brother's body in his bed, she opened his closet and grabbed out one of his larger shirts. It was a light gray t-shirt, with the bold letters ‘US Navy’ on the back in white. She didn't try to look at it too well, just folding it in her hands and putting the hanger back on the shelf.
Walking back down the stairs with the shirt, she could faintly hear them talking from the stairs. “What are we gonna do with the lass?” Soap said to Ghost, assumingly.
Ghost let out a grunt, maybe to tell Soap he was thinking? “Ghost, I doubt she’ll want to come with us. As much as I want to bring ‘er with us, she doesn't trust us.” Soaps' voice was quiet, but not quiet enough for her.
The other was silent, not speaking. She heard the faint noise of fabric rustling. Guessing to the best of her ability, she assumed Ghost probably shrugged or something.
Walking down the stairs, she didn't make a single noise. Thank god for her experience in sneaking around her house. She dodged the steps that creaked, and hugged close to the wall since it was most stable there.
Making it to the floor finally, she hugged close to the wall and slowly walked forwards. Freezing just a few inches back from the corner of the wall where they would be able to see her, Soap sighed.
“She can't stay here alone. She's a kid. And she's probably depressed.” Soap practically pleaded, earning silence from Ghost.
Soap grunted angrily. “I'm asking Price.” She could hear him walk away angrily, out the door and into the front yard.
Kaitlyn silently walked out of the hallway and into the living room, not making a single noise. The hallway was still dark, and it looked as if she was made of the shadows as she stepped out.
“Who's Price?” She asked from behind Ghost, causing him to turn around quickly. Ghost stared at her through his mask, his eyelids smeared with eye black.
Ghost was silent for a bit, just staring at her. “Our captain.” She nodded in response.
“Yall military? My papa was a Major before he came home all injured one night. He had to get discharged.” She looked at him with curiosity, trying to look for any identifying patches on his clothing.
Once again, he was quiet. “I'm a lieutenant. Soap is a sergeant.” She chewed her lips out of anxiety, the feeling of Ghost staring at her making her nervous.
Kaitlyn nodded. “You normally quiet as a ghost?” A small smile grew at the irony. “Good name. You live up to it.” The peaceful conversation was interrupted by air moving outside quickly, reminding her of a helicopter.
“Umm, Ghost, is that yall’s captain or whatever?” She pointed out the window to the open pasture that was once empty, but now had a landed helicopter with multiple people jumping out.
