Chapter Text
Izuku was heading to school. On his way, he saw a crowd at the Tatouin Station. There was a giant villain. Izuku wanted to get a closer look but was stopped by Backdraft, who advised the citizens to keep their distance. Izuku saw Kamui Woods fighting the giant villain. Mt Lady shows up and finishes the villain with her move Canyon Cannon. Everyone started taking pictures while Izuku took notes on her quirk Gigantification. A man noticed Izuku and asked if he was going to be a hero. Izuku said yes, and the man wished him good luck.
Tenko was waiting at the front gate when he noticed a green-haired boy who was running. He looked at his watch to see the class was about to start.
“What kept you?” said Tenko.
“I saw Mt Lady and Kamui Woods fighting a villain,” said Izuku.
“Sounds fun. I want to hear more.”
The two boys turned their heads to see Himiko with a smile on her face.
“Perhaps during lunch period, class is about to start,” said Tenko.
The three head to their class. The day went normally until the last class of the day the teacher entered the class with a bunch of papers.
“Now these papers will determine your career but screw it, I know all of you kids are going to the hero course,” the teacher threw the papers in the air. The students showed their quirks, then the teacher told them it was still class time and no using quirks.
“Hey teach, don’t put me with these extras. They're most likely to end up being sidekicks,” said Katsuki.
The other students were irritated by what he said while Izuku and Tenko ignored it. The teacher noticed that Bakugo was attending UA, which made the entire class shocked except Izuku. Katsuki bragged that he was the only one who had a chance to get into UA.
“Oh, it seems Midoriya and Shimura are also attending UA,” said the teacher.
After hearing those two names, the entire class laughed at Izuku saying that he couldn’t get in without a quirk, to which Izuku responded by saying that they changed that rule. Katsuki used his quirk and exploded Izuku’s desk. Izuku stood still and stared at the spiky-hair boy.
“Listen Deku, you're worse than the rest of these extras. You don’t have a quirk, what makes you think you can get into UA when they can have someone like me,” Katsuki grinned.
“I’ve always wanted to be a hero so I can try my best.”
Katsuki walked up to Izuku. “I’m not going to tell you again defenseless Deku. You’ll die during the exams. This school is bad enough you don’t need to make it worse.”
Katsuki turned his head after hearing a girl gasp. He saw Tenko use his quirk to disintegrate his desk. “Listen up everyone. You try anything with Midoriya, you’ll answer to me,” said Tenko.
Katsuki slowly walks up to Tenko, who has anger in his eyes. “Since when did you have a backbone chapstick,” Katsuki grinned. Izuku was about to run between the two until the teacher told them to stop and take their seats. Tenko was sent to the principal’s office after class.
Everyone left except Izuku, Katsuki, and his friends. Izuku was putting his stuff away, and then Katsuki grabbed his book.
“Where do you think you're going? We’re not done yet, Deku,” said Katsuki. The two boys noticed the title of the book. Hero’s Analysis for the Future No 13. Izuku asked for his book back, but Katsuki exploded it and tossed it outside, upsetting Izuku. Katsuki placed his hand on Izuku’s right shoulder, causing smoke to emerge. “Listen Deku, don’t even think of applying to UA,” Katsuki said with a threatening smile. Izuku wanted to say something but decided it wasn’t worth it, so he left the class to check on Tenko.
He noticed his friend with his parents. He shouted to his friend.
“Midoryia,” said Tenko.
“What happened?”
“The principal told us that Tenko destroyed a student’s desk out of anger using his quirk,” said Mr. Shimura.
“There’s no way our son would do something like that without good reason,” said Ms. Shimura.
“Your son had a reason,” said Izuku. He then explained the incident and how Tenko was defending him.
“I knew our son had good intentions,” said Ms. Shimura.
“And yet the principal didn’t mention that,” Mr. Shimura glared at the office. He walks back to the office, leaving the two kids and his wife. They could hear shouting and screaming, and then Mr. Shimura came out of the door with a calm expression. He then looked at Izuku. “Midoriya.”
“Yes sir,” said Izuku.
Mr. Shimura then takes a bow. “Thank you for being a friend to my son.”
“It was nothing, really. He’s a very nice person, and he’s been a good friend to me as well,” Izuku said nervously.
“Don’t think you're still not in trouble, young man,” Mr. Shimura stared at his son.
Tenko looked down, ashamed. He let his anger get the best of him, which shocked him in a way he had never gotten that angry before. The Shimura’s parents left while Tenko stayed with Izuku. Izuku went looking for his book that Katsuki tossed out of the window. He couldn’t find his book anywhere until he heard a familiar voice. “I believe this is yours.”
“Toga.”
Himiko hands the book to Izuku. “So I heard what happened,” she smiled.
“That school is full of shit. Bakugo only got a warning while I got sent to the principal.”
“Well, that sucks.”
“It doesn’t matter. I just got a suspension. At least I won’t have to see Bakugo’s face,” said Tenko.
“How about we head to the gym?” said Himiko.
“Sorry I have to get home,” said Izuku.
“Me too,” said Tenko.
Himiko was upset but smiled. “I’ll see you guys around.” She left the two boys.
While walking, Izuku was going through his notes. Tenko noticed Izuku was looking down. “Don’t let those bullies get to you.”
Izuku looked at his friend. “I’ll be lying if I said it didn’t bother me.”
After many years of bullying, a part of Izuku was still that scared little boy, but after what his mother said to him and having two best friends slowly built confidence in himself. He’s been exercising and building muscle since he started middle school. Many kids made mean comments but he ignored them. When Katsuki began picking on him he just ignored him as well. That’s when it acquired to him back then they were best friends until Katsuki got his quirk and he changed. Izuku always wondered why they stopped being friends.
“Midoriya.”
Izuku turned his head to Tenko who had a concerned look on his face. “Is something wrong?”
The green-haired boy didn’t answer.
“You're thinking about Bakugo aren’t you,” said Tenko, who looked annoyed by mentioning the bully’s name.
Izuku was shocked. “How did you know?”
“Lucky guess. I knew he would try to do something after school.”
“Your not wrong there but that’s not what I was thinking about.”
“Then what were you thinking about?”
Izuku hesitated to tell him about his past. He knew Tenko didn’t like Bakugo and was worried about how he would feel, but decided to tell him. “Kacchan and I were friends.”
Tenko was surprised. “You were friends with that jerk.”
“Back then, he wasn’t always like that. Yeah, he was arrogant, but he did have a nice side to him until he got his quirk that’s when things changed.”
“I’ll never forget that day when he and his friends attacked me,” Tenko clenched his fist in anger.
Izuku too remembered that day. He still remembers the beating that Katsuki and his friends did to him. Remembering the past made Izuku feel sad that his old friend turned into a bully until he realized after Katsuki attacked him the next day at school Katsuki avoided him like the plague for the rest of elementary until they started middle Katsuki started again the bullying only this time he hasn’t physically hurt him.
Tenko understood what Izuku was thinking. “I can tell you want to know why the two of you stop being friends.”
The green-haired boy gave a simple nod with a worried look.
“If you want to talk to him, that’s fine.”
Izuku was surprised by what Tenko said.
“I don’t care if you were friends with that bully. If you ask me, he lost a good friend that day.”
“Shimura.”
Tenko’s phone was ringing. He answered. It was his sister. “Hey, Hana, what’s up?”
“It’s Mon.”
“What’s wrong with Mon,” Tenko’s voice grew concerned when his dog was mentioned.
“We don’t know. We’re going to take him to the vet.”
“Ok, I’m on my way,” Tenko hung up the phone.
“Sorry, Izuku, my dog is at the vet. I have to go.”
“It’s alright I understand. I hope Mon is alright.”
The two said their goodbyes. Tenko dashed away while Izuku took a shortcut by going through a tunnel. After his conversation with Tenko, we wondered how Himiko would react to his past with Katsuki.
While walking, he heard a noise. He noticed a dark green substance on the ground. He then looked up and saw a slime villain. The villain attacks the green-haired boy.
“Hey don’t worry kid, I just need a skin suit just to get me out of the city.”
The villain tried to force himself into Izuku but he resisted. “Come on, kid it’ll be easy if you stop resisting.”
Izuku’s vision was going blurred. He knew he was going to pass out until… “Fear not, for I am here.”
Out pops All Might from the sewers. “Dammit, All Might is here.”
All Might pulled the green-haired boy out of the slime and with a single punch he knocked the villain out.
“Young man, are you alright?” said All Might. He grew worried when he saw the boy he saved was his son. He shakes Izuku, which makes the green-haired boy wake up. The first thing Izuku noticed was All Might, which made him smile.
‘Oh, my god it’s All Might’ he said to himself.
All Might was happy to see his son was alright. “Are you alright young man?”
“I’m alright, he stuttered. “What about the villain?”
“Fear not, I've captured the villain,” he pulled a bottle filled with slime.
‘I need to get his autograph.’ he was looking for his book until he saw it. He opened it and wrote in big letters the name of All Might.
“Thank you so much. This will carry on for generations,” Izuku bowed repeatedly.
“You're welcome.” All Might place the bottle in his pants pocket. “I’m gonna take this villain to the police. You are safe now. I’ll see you around.”
The symbol of peace launched himself from the ground to the air. While in the air, he noticed his lower body was heavy. It wasn’t until he saw Izuku holding on to him tightly. He was about to shout Izuku’s name but stopped himself.
Izuku lets go of All Might after he lands on a building. “What were you thinking? That was reckless what you did.” All Might said in a serious tone.
“I’m sorry. It’s just there’s something I need to ask you,” said Izuku.
Before the number one hero could hear the boy’s question, he felt a sharp pain. It was then he knew his time was up. “No, not here, not now.”
Izuku noticed smoke coming out of the pro hero. “Are you alright All might?”
After the smoke disappeared, Izuku’s expression went from concerned to shocked. The man Izuku saw standing before him was his father, Toshinori.
“D-dad,” Izuku sttured.
The young boy had mixed feelings about the situation. He was excited to see that his father was the symbol of peace, but was baffled to see his hero in a weaker form.
“Izuku.”
“Yes, father.”
“I know you have a lot of questions. Like how am I able to change into my muscular form? Let me explain.” All might pull his shirt up, revealing his gruesome injury.
Izuku had a gross reaction but realized something. He always remembered his dad coughing blood during his childhood. “That injury. Is that why you’ve been coughing up blood?”
“That’s right. I got this from a big fight five years ago. My respiratory system was mostly damaged, but my stomach was destroyed. I can only do hero work for three hours.”
“Five years ago? Was it the fight you got that injury from was Toxic Chainsaw.”
“You know your stuff, but no, this was a different battle. Most of the world don’t know”
“What about mom? Does she know?”
“She does.” All Might was heading to a door, telling his son their talk more when they get home.
“Dad, wait.”
All Might stopped and turned his head to Izuku.
The green-haired boy was hesitating but eventually built the courage to speak. “Is it possible to be a hero without a quirk? I’m a normal boy who has no powers. Could I ever hope to be someone like you?”
“Izuku.” All might mumble in a soft tone.
Suddenly, there was an explosion.
Local Gym
Himko headed to the gym to train. She first trained her body until her trainer showed up for work. “Hey, Toga.”
“Hi, Leia.”
“Where’s Midoryia?”
“He had to go home.”
“I see, then let’s start with a warm-up.”
After warmups, Leia asked if Toga wanted to workout or spar. The ash blonde girl choose to spar with her trainer and that’s exactly what they did.
Himiko threw punches while Leia blocking each one. This went on for a while until Himiko noticed Leia’s legs were open. She dodged the punch and went for a surprise sweep kick, causing Leia to fall to the ground. The trainer wasn’t expecting the kick but was impressed by her speed.
The two finished training. Himiko changed into her school uniform.
“Here,” Leia offers a drink.
“Thanks.”
“That was a nice kick, Toga.”
“You focused too much on your upper body, leaving your legs defenseless.”
“You paid attention to your opponent’s weakness. That’s good. It’s best to surprise your enemies.”
Himiko noticed Leia had luggage with her. “Where are you going?”
“I’m taking a plane to see my family.”
“That’s nice. I hope your trip goes well.”
“Thanks. I hope you and Midoryia get to UA.”
Leia was heading to the door. Then she stopped. “Before I leave, I asked a friend to help with your training while I’m gone.”
“Who would that be?”
“It’s a surprise. He should be here any minute. That’s if he’s not distracted at the moment.” Leia waved goodbye to Himiko.
Himiko was watching the news until she heard a voice. “Excuse me. Are you Himiko Toga?”
The ash-blond girl turned her head to see a tall, bulky, muscular man wearing a dark red tight suit with short grey spiky hair. “Yes.”
“My name is Vlad King. I’ll be your trainer while Leia is on vacation.”
“I look forward to it.”
“I know your training is over, but I would like to get to know you better. Leia never told me your quirk, so I would like to know what is your quirk?”
Himiko grew nervous once again hearing that question, but took a deep breath and told him.
“I see, so your quirk also has to do with blood.” He could see the young girl was looking upset. “Don’t worry, I know what you're going through.”
“You do?”
“I have a quirk that also has to do with blood. I can control my blood’s movement and can harden the blood to trap villains.”
Vlad King places his hand on her shoulder. “Young lady, don't feel ashamed about your quirk. With my training, I’m gonna make you a great hero.”
Tears formed in her eyes, and a huge smile formed on her face. This moment reminded her of when she first told Izuku about her quirk. “Breaking news.”
Himiko and Vlad turned their heads to the TV to see a slime villain taking a student hostage. Himiko grabbed her stuff and dashed to the door. Vlad tried to stop her, then he looked back at the news. ‘Did she know that boy… wait, what’s that boy doing?’
Izuku and Toshinori head to where the explosion happened. They see a small crowd and see Death Gun and other heroes fighting against a slime villain. Toshinori looked down to his pocket and saw the bottle he kept the villain in was gone. He couldn’t help the other pro heroes he blamed himself.
Izuku notices the slime villain. ‘That’s the slime villain that attacked me, but my dad captured him.’ It was then he remembered when he grabbed his dad’s leg. ‘It must've fallen out of his pocket.’
“That villain has taken a hostage,” said a civilian.
“A hostage,” Izuku whispered. He can only imagine what the person is going through.
The green-haired boy soon recognized the hostage. It was Kacchan. Izuku felt his heart drop. Not only did he let the villain escape, but he also took Kacchan as a hostage. He knew the other heroes couldn’t do anything, so he hoped a true hero would come.
“Wait, was that the villain All Might was chasing,” said a bystander.
Everybody was asking questioning where the number one hero was and why was he not helping.
Toshinori couldn’t do anything. He felt a strong pain in his stomach not only from the pain, but from feeling worthless. ‘I’m not a real hero,’ he thought to himself.
Izuku looked up and saw Kacchan’s pleading eyes. Then something happened. The green-haired boy’s body began moving on its own and he was charging. Everyone was shocked, especially All Might, who grew worried about his son. “Stop! You gonna get yourself killed!” shouted a pro hero.
The slime villain noticed the boy running towards him. “You again?”
Kacchan looked up to see Izuku running towards him. ‘Deku?’ he thought to himself.
The green-haired boy threw his open backpack, which caused his school supplies to fly out, blinding the villain. He tries to pull his friend out, but to no avail.
“What are you doing!” Katsuki shouted.
“I don’t know Kacchan. My body started moving on its own. You look like you need help,” the green-haired boy said with tears in his eyes.
After witnessing his son trying to save his friend, the symbol of peace slowly reverted to his muscle form. He didn’t care about the pain in his stomach; he had to do something.
The slime villain was about to attack the green-haired boy until All Might blocked the attack. “I really am pathetic.”
Izuku looked up. “All Might.”
“I wasn’t living to my ideal,” the pro hero grabbed Katsuki and Izuku’s arms “Pros are always risking their lives. That’s what makes a true hero.”
“Dame, you All might,” cursed the slime villain.
“DETRIOT SMASH!”
All might punch the slime villain. The wind pressure changed the dark smoky sky back to a blue sky. Mt Lady places her arms in front of the people to protect them from the wind.
All Might was getting all the attention. Some pro heroes praise Katsuki for his quirk and bravery while Izuku is scolded. While Izuku was walking away, until … “Don’t let those comments get to you.”
He stopped his tracks and saw a boy with black hair and dark green eyes. The young boy looked about Izuku’s age.
“For someone who’s quirkless, you were brave back there. I’m impressed.”
Izuku was shocked. “How do you know that?”
“There’s no color on you.”
Before he continued, he checked his phone and realized he had to leave. Izuku wanted to ask him about his quirk, but the black hair boy was gone. Izuku wondered about the boy he met.
‘Who was that kid and what did he mean there were no colors on me? Could that be his quirk? He can see colors if the person has a quirk. If so, what colors is he seeing, and do the colors represent different types of quirks and is it covering their body?’
His thoughts were interrupted by a shout. “Deku!”
The green-haired boy turned his head to see Katsuki. “I didn’t need your help. Just because you saved me doesn't mean you can look down on me. I don’t owe you anything, got it!”
The spiky-haired boy stormed off, leaving Izuku alone. The green-haired boy wondered what Katuski meant by looking down on him. While walking home, Izuku had a bunch of thoughts, but they were interrupted again. “I am here!”
All Might dashed in front of Izuku then a burst of smoke appeared and the symbol of peace was back into his skinny form puking blood.
“Dad are you alright?!” Realizing what he shouted, he covered but his father assured him no one was around.
“What are you doing here?”
“I wanted to make sure you're okay and to thank you. If you didn’t run to save that Bakugo. I would’ve been nothing but a bystander who was worthless. Thank you Izuku.”
Izuku was about to speak, but his father stopped him. “I’m not finished. I know you don’t have any powers, but after I saw you tried to save a life knowing your quirkless, it inspired me.”
The green-haired boy looked shocked. The thoughts of what the pro heroes said to him at the incident and other students saying mean things disappeared.
“There are stories on how heroes are born and became great, but there's one thing most of these stories have in common. Their bodies moved on their own without thinking.”
Tears formed in Izuku’s emerald eyes. He felt tension in his chest and fell to his knees. He remembers what his mother told him: that he can become a hero. He was grateful for what she said to him, but all the kids and teachers said the opposite slowly, making him lose hope. He wanted to hear those words again, but from two people he looked up to. These two people turned out to be the same person his father All Might.
The sun was setting and the wind slowly blowing All Might’s hair. He looked at his son. Back then, he was conflicted when Izuku asked him if he could become a hero. After seeing what his son did, he knew exactly what to say.
“Young man, you too can become a hero.”
Hearing those words made Izuku cry more on the inside and more tears, not of sadness but of joy.
Dreams can become a reality.
“Izuku. I deem you worthy to inherit my quirk,” said All Might.
“What do you mean by inherent?” Izuku said with a confused look.
“Listen Izuku, there are some things you need to know about my quirk.”
“Your quirk is super strength and speed, isn’t it?” said Izuku.
“That’s what the public believes, but my quirk has been passed from another. It’s called One For All,”
“One For All?” said Izuku.
All Might raise his hand. All Might knew his son would start mumbling if he spoke, so he raised his hand before Izuku spoke. “I know you have a bunch of questions, but let me explain. One For All is a quirk that grants the user power. During this time, the wielder improves it, and they can transfer it to another. From generation to generation, this quirk has grown from one wielder to another. This is the power I used to save those in need.”
“Why give it to me?”
“Ever since then, I’ve been trying to find a worthy successor, then I saw what you did. You ran towards the villain to save a life. You acted like a hero.”
Tears were forming in the green-haired boy's eyes. ‘My family, all these years they’ve encouraged and supported me.’
Izuku wiped the tears from his eyes. ‘This quirk has been passed down to my father and now it’s my turn to carry the torch.’
Izuku slowly got up to look at his father with a serious look, “I’ll do it,”
“I knew you would,” All might smile. He placed his hand on his son’s shoulder. “Let’s go home.”
Izuku nodded, and the two walked home. Izuku looked at his father and smiled. Today was not only the best day but the beginning of the story of how he became the world's greatest hero.
Unknown to the two, Himiko was watching them. “I’m glad Izuku is okay.”
She was relieved to see her friend was okay, but discovered something she was not meant to hear. She knew this secret of All Might and OFA must never be revealed to the public. She swears to keep this secret to herself and walks home. While walking, she smiled.
