Chapter Text
"Woah, Amaya y-you...." Mike struggled to find his proper wording. He stared in awe at the Tabby Cat with her bright red suit. The shoes shined with little bowties around the laces for a little pizzazz. Amaya gave a little twirl to show off the rest of her outfit. Senior prom was in an hour. Mike drove to her house to pick her up for the special occasion. He hadn't yet seen Amaya's outfit as she wanted to keep it all a secret for the Korat.
His reaction was priceless with Mike's green eyes shrinking by such a sight. Amaya started to turn red with embarrassment. Thinking Mike didn't like the thought of her going out with a suit instead of the dresses every girl wore to every School dance. It was different for her.
Mike finished his sentence: "You look gorgeous, seriously." Amaya looked at Mike, the embarrassed look on her face died down, she began to smile. Her smiles always assured Mike that happier days were not far. Mike walked over to Amaya; he dawned a teal tux. The tie was the same color as his scarf, a light baby blue. Lastly, on his left shoulder was a rose he freshly picked out from the garden. Lucy's mother noticed Mike eying her over growing rose bush in the front yard and insisted on Mike taking one home with him. No matter how much the Korat tried to thankfully decline, Lucy's mom won the back and forth. Good thing too.
Mike spend a good minute gazing into Amaya's eyes that one could get lost looking deeper into. He broke his contact by nervously inserting his hand into the inside of his tux. "Y'know, I-I couldn't let us go out together without a little..." He struggled to get the small cubic shape out of the tight pocket of his jacket, finally after a little tug it popped out. "Voilà!"
In his hand was small plastic container: Displayed inside was a maroon flower corsage. Amaya quickly covered her mouth with both hands as her smile widened along with her entire face turning red. "Mike, oh my god!" She spoke in her soft voice. Mike heard that peaceful voice before, the day the two truly made it official during their kite adventure. "It's adorable, thank you..
"Honestly you didn't have to get me anything, really." Amaya felt Mike placed his hand towards Amaya's face, gently placing it on her cheek. Mike's thumb touched Amaya's whiskers. "It wouldn't feel right if I didn't get it for you..Amaya you deserve this night more than anything."
The Tabby cat felt hot tears roll down her cheeks when Mike started unboxing the plastic to get the Flower corsage out. Amaya extended her left wrist for Mike to insert the corsage in. As he was slightly tightening the ribbon around her hand he noticed the tears running down Amaya's face. "Oh Amaya.." He embraced her with a hug to which she responded back with a tighter one.
"I'm sorry Amaya, is it too much?" He stopped the hug to look at Amaya for her response. The smile reappeared as she responded: "No-no. Mike, I love it so much! Again thank you!" She went back to hugging Mike again, he immediately accepted the hug. It was one of their favorites. Amaya loved Mike's hugs as all it did was cool down her anxiety attacks to get through each second. "Alrighty, think that's it. Ready?" Mike said.
Amaya nodded her head. The two lovebirds made their way to the door but upon walking out, a camera flash went off into their eyes, it was Sue holding the camera capturing the perfect shot except for one major issue. Mike blinked. Sue jokingly let out a grumpy sigh. "Ugh, Mike you always blink. C'mon, hasn't Barney Stinson ever taught you a thing or two about taking a picture?" Mike looked at Sue in confusing. He hadn't got Sue's How I Met Your Mother reference. "Nevermind it doesn't matter. What matters is getting to our destination. Speaking of which, PAULO GET YOUR ASS IN HERE!" Sue screamed out in the distance to the Somali down the corner of the street.
Paulo and Sue were both matching in green for Prom. Paulo wore a rented out a forest green suit from Sue's uncle who owned a Suit Rental store. Paulo had promised to keep it in mint condition for the sake of Sue's uncle who wasn't too fond of Paulo's cheesy boyish charms that ended up winning Sue over. Meanwhile Sue picked out a dark green gown that went down to until it perfectly alined with her green slippers.
Paulo and Sue were a couple nobody thought would work. It started from just Paulo and Sue working on a US History project together to the two secret hanging out behind everyone's backs. David had caught the two sharing a long smooch session during Halloween of Junior Year. Other trick or treaters found it strange that Heath Ledger Joker was making out with Carmen Sandiego of all people.
Paulo was running towards Amaya's house in a split second he caught up but was out of breathe. Mike chuckled a bit at Paulo's immediate tuckered out state. "Wow Paulo, if you want I could invite you to the Track Team to improve on your cardio. That way you get less tired over running a 10 second distanc-"
Paulo quickly fired back with his hair getting sweaty: "Shut the hell up Mike! Gawd dayum it's hot in this crap." Sue frowned at Paulo's comments about his suit to which Paulo noticed and quickly dropped his sour tone. "Sorry."
Mike wanted to get a move on as he didn't like the idea of the line to the dance being overly crowded like last time. "Anyway, let's get a move on shall we?" Everyone agreed to Mike's suggestion as they were off. Paulo driving with Sue in his car with Mike and Amaya followed closely behind.
Mike and Amaya sat on the pavement outside the doors to Roseville High looking out in the stars above. Everyone else was either too busy dancing back inside or leaving for the night. Paulo and Sue had already left but before they did, Sue finally got her perfect picture as they said their goodbyes. Now it was just the two left.
It was their last ever dance before graduation. Mike and Amaya had already planned out their College plans to move in a small apartment with Paulo and Sue to keep their friendship stronger after High School. For now they wanted to focus on this night, just this one. "Y'know Amaya." Mike spoke up to break the silence. "Hmm?" responded Amaya.
"Wish we could I don't know, stay here forever before some guard comes to kick us out. I want to just be here with you forever. Not have to worry about the future or well...The future isn't so bad either but you get what I mean right?" Amaya smiled at Mike's comment. "I do. Maybe the future will be something we truly wanted.."
"Maybe Amaya, maybe." Mike and Amaya huddled together to keep the stars shining brighter. "Mike can I tell you something?"
"Yes Amaya?" Mike said without breaking off his contact from the stars. "If we both go to the same University, let's study the same career, just so we can follow the same dreams together."
"Not a bad idea, but it depends on what exactly we should both study for. One wrong step and we both crash and burn." Amaya turned to face Mike with an angry look on her face. "Miiike, don't say that."
The Korat looked a bit guilty for his crash and burn statement. It was mainly a joke but the crickets made it clear it wasn't funny.
"I'm sorry Amaya, I didn't mean to offend you." Amaya dropped her angry expression. "It's fine, I must admit it was sorta funny but not quite there."
"Yeah that's true." Mike scratched his head. Amaya plopped her head next to Mike's shoulder leading to him placing his head next to hers. The two cats held each other's hands. Mike lifted his head as he was already getting sleepy. He checked his phone to read it was 11:12 pm already. Mike saw that Amaya had shut her eyes too..He went to gently shake her but realized he didn't want to wake her up.
Mike carefully grabbed the Tabby trying not to wrinkle her suit or wake her up in the process and carried her to his car. He opened the passenger side door and placed her in the seat. Before Mike could turned to start walking to the driver's side, he felt two hands grab him by the collar of his suit and move him forward, it was Amaya. Her lips aligned perfectly with his. Mike once again embraced Amaya as thet kissed with him leaning on the passenger seat but making sure he didn't fall forward, just clinging.
Mike and Amaya didn't separate at all making it feel endless. The two finally broke apart before going right back at it but this time shorter. "You are an good kisser.." said Mike with a tired but blushy grin. "Not bad yourself either.." Amaya quietly laughed as she said that.
"Guess working at that theater and sitting around during the romance movies paid off?" Amaya laughed again at Mike's actual funny joke "Guess so...I love you." Mike leaned in and kissed Amaya again with a small smooch on the lips. "Love you too.."
After a while, Mike got into his seat and drove the two of them home. What a night to remember.
