Chapter Text
After some mayor headache J was finally able to finish her reports and get on with the rest of her night, as soo as she left the pod she was meet with a familiar voice, one she wasn't to keen on hearing. Then again there wasn't any familiar voice on the planet she would like to hear at the moment.
"Uff so that's you who has this strong of a gasoline smell!" V said as she lazily threw the remains of a Worker to the side "Must have had something to party about last day huh?".
J face had a clear expression of annoyance and tiredness "Not quite no, what you doing here anyways?".
"Just making sure I'll actually bring the bodies back as you like to bitch to me about so much! What something wrong with that too?" V said in a sarcastic tone clearly trying to get under J's skin.
J for her part would roll her eyes before rubbing her visor with two fingers just like a human would rub his eyes "No just wasn't expecting you to ever actually listen. Say where did N go off to?".
"Who?" V raised a digital eye brow as she tilted her head to the side in confusion as to who J was referring to.
"Oh sweet CEO!" She first whispered to herself before turning to face V "N, V! The other member of our three Drone squat?".
"Ooh yeah him! Yeah he went to the south section of the city, why he messed up again?" V asked with a white smile on her face.
"No I just wanna avoid him for little while and hunt in peace." J answered before turning to the north side of the city and flew off.
V just stood there watching her and took a Workers head with her claws "Wait did I say south city, oops I meant north! Oh well not like she was gonna have much success catching any Drone stinking like a leaking gas station, plus more ground for me!" She said while crushing the Workers head, the familiar yellow X on her visor and a sadistic laugh leaving her mouth.
J flew for a good while not really having any luck with finding a single Worker Drone to feed on "What is going on tonight? It's like they know how to avoid me but how?".
She didn't really have much time to think about it as she stood on a rooftop to overlook the area and got surprised yet again by a voice calling out to her, "J? Oh hey how ya doing? Better I hope!" N said with a cheerful attitude as he always had about him.
She looked at him surprised to see him "N!? What are, V of course.", her expressions quickly changed to one of anger as she realized that V lied to her.
"V uh, what?" He asked her tilting his head in a confused state.
"Nothing N, I just. I just wanted to hunt alone tonight but looks like I got no luck there!" She said as she turned to face him but looked to the side, "Ever since I left the spire there isn't a single damn Worker out tonight.".
N's expression turned a bit nervous as he rubbed the back of his head "Umm Well J I think it's more because of the gas smell coming from you.".
J stood there for a moment looking at him with wide eyes, the thought that she had been alerting the Workers to her presence, had caused her to slap her face in frustration.
N felt Bad for J, first the drunk incident last day, then V tricking her and now this, "Well J if ya want, I got a Workers fresh corps if your hungry!" he said wanting to cheer her up or at least help her not to starve.
J looked at him for a moment cosidering his offer "Nah tanks but you should get your own fill before getting the bodies you don't need to eat back to the spire.".
"Actually I already had mine, it's been a good night for me so you can have this one!" He replied with a warm smile.
"Thanks N, I. . I really appreciate it." She said while making her way to the spot he pointed to.
"Oh no worries just wanna help where I can!" He said glad that she decided to take him up on the offer.
She made it to the body and took it "You know N, I have been hard on you over the years, to hard and I. . I just wanted to apologize, you deserved better.", she said before taking a bite of the Worker and drinking his oil, allowing N time to response.
"Oh well, uuuh, thanks J but you don't have to apologize just because of last night, plus I did do a lousy job over the years." He said glad to hear say that but not really believing in those words, in both parts because he thought J was just saying that because she might thinks that she owed him that and that he knew he wasn't the best Disassembler amount and sort of deserved the hard treatment.
J finished drinking and dropped the body to the ground "No N your not lousy, sure it does look kinda bad compared to me and V but that doesn't mean your bad, plus i have been pushing to hard for that number one spot in the leader board and it really wasn't fair towards you" she made her way past him "And about last night I'm not being nice because of that, I just. . I got to reflect on the past, that's it.".
"Oh ok." N said as he watched her get ready to fly off, he thought how this just didn't feel right, he should be glad, happy that J seemingly really wanted to be nicer to him and yet, he just couldn't help himself but to think that something was up with her.
N brought his wings out and took to the sky to fly after her, it didn't take him long to catch up to her. "J wait!".
She turned around to look at him as she stopped mid air "N? What is it now?".
He fly up to her "I just wanted to ask if everything is alright?".
J looked at his face witch had a expression of genuine worry "Yeah N I'm fine, thanks for asking." she answered before flying back off again.
She didn't feel like dealing with this, she already had dealer enough with her emotions and just wanted to have a break. To bad for her N wouldn't back off that easily, especially when he had a gut feeling that something was wrong and his desire to always help.
"Are you sure J? I'm happy to help if you need." He said as he was flying close behind her.
"Yes N I am sure!" She said sounding a bit more irritated, before taking a sharp turned past a building.
N frowned as he now knew for sure something wasn't right, all this behavior wasn't like J, she wouldn't just storm off like that.
He caught up to her again this time intending to not let her get away "J seriously what's bothering you, I just wanna help!".
"What's bothering me? What's bothering me!" She said in an angered tone "I'll tell you what's bothering me! It's that I'm finally deciding to be nice to you and you are seemingly trying your best to piss me off!" J attempted to get away from N once again only to feel something grab her leg.
"I'd rather you be mad at me then be nice and have something clearly eating you up from the inside!" N had a good grip on her leg, not wanting to let her go till she told him what was up.
"Damn it N, let foAAAAAAA!" In the whole struggle of J trying to get away from N and him doing his best to hold on to her, the ended up hitting a flag post that send them both crashing into a Mall.
The two ended up crashing ring by a power line that actually managed to bring back electricity to the mall, not fully as some areas remained dark and for most that got their power turned back on had it glitched where it would turn off and on.
The fact that it got any sort of Power after this many years would have been an astonishing discovery as it would have most likely hinted at a Worker colony near by but the two were to focused on each other to give the that any thought.
N got up rubbing his head "Ugh, J you good?", he looked around to see J on her knees with tears on her visor "Oh biscuits, J I'm sorry I." he got up and made his way to her before stopping as she interrupted him.
"YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT'S BOTHERING ME?! YOU N! YOU BEEN BOTHERING ME MY WHOLE LIFE!!!" J cried out screaming at him, "It's been bothering me how you make me feel, how my heart hurts everytime I see you!".
N looked at her in shock and confusion, he couldn't fully understand what she meant other then that he made her feel bad. And yet he was also still worried about her seeing her in a state like that.
"It hurts because, because your eyes are always on V. I was there FIRST! And yet it's always HER!" J continued, with N slowly realizing what she was exactly talking about.
"I was the fool who fell for you just because you were nice to me and I was an even bigger idiot for being a monster to you just because you feel for her." She looked away from him to the ground and placed her hands to her visor "Why couldn't you just stop? Why do you have to still be so nice to me after all these years, after everything I did to push you away! Why?" she began sobbing.
N didn't respond at first only looking at her with a sad expression, he didn't knew what to say at the moment or at least how to put the words together. A part of him still processed the fact that J just told him that she loved him and he wasn't sure how to approach that.
After all what where his feelings? Should he just give up on V and go for J? Could he even be with her? Shouldn't he be mad at her for all the years of how she treaded him? Should he be mad, seeing how he hurt her in return?
N didn't know about any of these things but as he looked at J on the ground how, her crying. He knew that at the moment he should do his best to help her.
"Because your dear to me J." He finally spoke as he made his way to her "And I don't wanna see you suffer. Sure the way you been treating me wasn't always the best and some things went a bit too far but that doesn't mean I wanna hurt you in return.".
J looked up from her hands at N who got ever closer to her "Especially when there wasn't active malice behind them, you did them because you were hurting and didn't know how to deal with those emotions".
He finally reached her and sat down next to her "I'm not gonna lie to you J, I don't know how things are gonna turn out from here on out or what the future looks like for us.", J looked back to the ground not wanting to look at him directly but enjoying his company non the less, despite trying to get away from him earlier right now she really liked having him there next to her.
"But I do know, now that the cards are all on the table we can work to fix this between us and both be better for it. What ya say about that?" He turned to her with a smile on his face.
J looked at him and started to smile herself, not a fake on but a genuine smile she didn't have in years "I would like that.".
The two would sit there for a second before finally noticing that the power in the mall was on, mainly because one of the shops just turned on and started to play an old song dating back from long before where humans only hat still ben on their own moon a couple of times. That combined with the fact that the clouds cleared, allowing the Moonlight to shine through the glass ceiling of the mall.
N turned back to J and reached out to her with a hand "Hey what do you say we leave all the complicated emotional stuff behind for now and just go, you know dirty dancing in the moonlight?".
J snickered at the last part but she still took his hand "That would be nice, yes.".
It would take a lot of time and hard work for the two of them to fix the years of bad oil between them but at the moment none of that mattered to either of them, right now they were dancing in each other's arms and enjoy a moment of peace and happiness.
