Chapter Text
Regulus sat on the floor of the empty library, with his legs in Lilys lap , while she talks about a book they both deeply adore.
It is currently winter, and barely any of the students of Hogwarts decided to stay during the holiday. The war is something everyone knows is going to start taking action very soon, but no one wants to mention the impending doom they all feel. It has mostly been a waiting game that everyone is scared to talk about. Regulus pretends he doesn't know what he will choose when the time comes, but he knows it will end up being his parents' side.
The war and the blood purity ideology is something he has thought a lot about, and knows that the whole idea is wrong and most likely not even correct. After a particular argument he had with Lily, which ended with her throwing a muggle biology book at him, he decided to take the hint and try to figure out himself if blood purity makes sense past the initial "muggle blood taints the pure" and " muggleborns steal our magic". After extensive research , which took him months, ( also with the help of the grey lady, she seemed quite knowledgeable on the subject.) he figured out that his ancestors must have lied because their blood couldn't be entirely 'pure' for them to survive for so long.
Also another thing that he learned was that muggleborns couldn't in any way "steal" magic. The reason that this myth started was because the wizard community, mostly pure bloods, wanted to find an excuse for why squibs exist. Although the answer for squibs and muggleborns is similar, they don't have anything to do with each other directly.
To sum it up, ( or dumb it up, in James' case.) everything has magic. The trees, the sky, the ground, the air, and that also includes everyone. Most people wouldn't accept that, but it's the truth. Muggles do indeed have magic, but it's a small amount that is not even usable or detectable. The only way you could reach this conclusion is through studying magic itself, nature, biology, and factoring the maths as well into it.
For muggleborns, their magic is bigger in size, which also means they can use it. Its really random on who is born with what amount, but it's a thing that's on chance.
Muggles have a 30% chance of being born with a bigger amount of magic in them, the exact size varies though.
This is also the part that is similar to squibs. Every wizard or witch that is born, has a 20% chance of being born with the amount of magic that a muggle does. Most people think that squibs have absolutely no magic like muggles, but that's incorrect for both. Like muggles, squibs do have magic in them, but the amount is so small that it's not able to be used or even seen.
Regulus knows the truth about blood purity, but like always, he will be a coward on choosing the right side when the time comes.
"Regulus! " he looks up at Lily, realizing he mustve been lost in thought. Althought most people believe he has a true poker face, his friends are quite good at figuring him out.
"You okay? You looked quite out of it for a second there. " she tilts her head and creases her eyebrows worryingly. She looks at his face and then his hands, which he was fidgeting with unknowningly.
" yeah yeah, I'm fine. Just kind of scared of how lonely it will be when you all leave. " although this isn't what he was thinking of at that moment, it's still true. He wouldn't tell just anyone about how he truly feels , but Lily is one of his best friends and she really is like his twin sometimes. He knows that he can trust her, they are like two sides of the same coin, so different, yet so, so similar.
Lily smiles at him slightly while putting down the book she was holding with one hand. She lightly pushes his legs off of her lap to scoot across to his side and sit next to him.
"You know,James has been wanting to ask you this, but I can't wait. Once we graduate, me and James will get an apartment after a couple of months. Once you and Pandora graduate, we should all move in together and have as much fun as we still can. I bet the other marauders will move in right next door also. Your brother wouldn't want to stray too far from you and James. I talked to Pandora about it and she liked the idea, since she wanted us to live somewhere close to you anyways. What do you think? "
she looks at him with bright and excited eyes, awaiting his response. Lily is usually very determined and sure of herself, but she was getting nervous by his startled gaze.
Regulus smiles and hugs her after a few seconds of thinking, responding with "I love that idea. "
What neither of them knew is that the following week Regulus would get into an argument with James, revolving his side on the war, which ended up with them not talking again and Regulus taking the mark once the seventh years graduate.
Once Regulus and Pandora graduated, it was expected that Regulus would be a coward and not turn back to them. What was less expected was Pandora still trying to get her best friend back, and losing her life in the process after involving herself too much into the war. ( Lily always knew she was Pandora's love , but Regulus was her true soulmate by heart.)
After both James and Lily lost their lovers to the war, one of whose death wasn't even fully known, they decided to get married knowing the only person they could love the same was the other. Even if it wasn't romantic, they loved each other like soulmates. And if Regulus or Pandora were there at that moment, they both would've been happy and cheered at their wedding.
Lily and James decided they wanted to have their own child, because they both had always wanted to end up being parents one day. ( another reason was that if they ended up dying, they could have something left of them in the world. They don't mention that though. )
It was kind of funny that the first one of the four to have died ended up also being the last to survive in a way. What kind of logic is that?
