Chapter Text
Squirming against the tightly packed time-ropes, a body was tossed into the open lot, a frown across the Time detective’s face.
Cyclamen’s white hair ruffles in place, mumbling against rope over her own mouth.
“Here’s our progress report.”
Natto crinkles watching his assigned partner stuffling in soon after, stumbling past the door. Papers fly past his fingers, folders stacked in his arms with a large grin cracked along his cheeks.
“Oh!! and I filed the proper report and everything else necessary, Chief Investigator. I double and triple checked it! Nothing is missing.”
“Thank you, Cinnamon Donut…” She pauses, eyeing the odd scene displayed before her. She places a hand on her desk, the other idly gesturing to the other detective.
“And— String Gummy Cookie. The multiversal INTERPOL would be pleased to hear this. Well done! You’re both dismissed.”
“That's it?” The cinnamon detective spoke, head crooked past the tower.
“Of course it is, Cinnamon Donut Cookie. This is the way our unit has always operated.” Natto responds, jaded a soft hint of venom in her throat.
“Return to your stations and your next assignments will be handed to you as soon as possible.”
“But- but..”
“If I must repeat,” She hisses in place.
“You are dismissed.”
“Understood, Chief.”
String tightens the grip around his own weapon, eyes cast to the ground with another turn.
“Thank you for finally having some sense. Now go.”
The door rang through the room as it clicked against the frame once more.
Walking slowly to the counter, Donut places the large stack of files just past the nameplate.
He couldn’t help but have his steps be hesitant, even when it all seemed more clear.
With a firm shut, there the two found themselves, just out the door. Atop of a high platform, two cookies parallel each other on the brink of both flights of stairs.
they shift apart.
Slowly, the spunky one looks over his shoulder.
“Again, I can’t stress this enough. This experience was wonderful…!” Cinnamon Donut comments, voice tethering so dim as he closed, even as that crooked smile that followed him persists.
it’s odd, watching his once-teammate, once so punctual, there so stiff.
Then his long cape drags behind him, those big boots clicking right his way.
“I’m… Proud of what we accomplished, together.”
Right then, if you listen so closely, there was a soft sense of sorrow beneath that silky voice.
Donut finds himself second guessing if it was even there at all.
“I’m…”
String stood, breathless, gesturing with his hands for words he couldn’t quite reach.
“I’m glad I got to call you my partner. You’re a headstrong cookie…”
he hesitates, running over more thoughts. As his head dips, String gummy gives a last sigh.
“I hope to work with you again, Cinnamon Donut Cookie. I’m going to miss you.”
With that, he makes a turn.
Right then, Donut froze in place, no objections, no added judgements.
String Gummy Cookie, agent of the Time Investigation Division— moreover, his respected partner and colleague, already closed off into the distance.
“He’ll miss me...” he repeated to himself.
In his heart, how couldn’t Cinnamon Donut wholly agree?
He’d yearn for another time like that.
A time by his side, a time where he shared a deep passion and goal with another.
And then and there, the detectives part, their first case finally to a close.
